  • "Me and my family stay here Sep 2024, I would not recommend a stay at owl nook the cleanliness was a zero you could tell that the lodge had not been deep cleaned for sometime, there was cobwebs on the ceiling and mould around the shower base."

The waste system was smelling the whole lodge out to the point we were going to reception to use the bathroom. The outside seating are was full of leaves that you could tell had not been moved for sometime. There wasn’t enough crockery or seating for 7 people inside or outside. The sofa was so uncomfortable and not even the one on the advertisement. There was no information on arrival at the lodge and the contact numbers given did not work. When complaining I was unable to get through to anyone and the resort they were not able to help due to the lodge being private. I would not stay here again.

  • "Since you ask for my opinion here it is…."

, 1. the ‘lodge’ is opposite a Dilapidated lodge , making the view on the ‘patio’ unsightly. 2. the hot tub area is at the back of the lodge near the bins and surrounded by bushes with lots of debris in plain sight, old mop, bottles , cans, old wooden door , horrible smells, flys and potentially rodents as my dog would not settle and there was movement in bushes. 3. the toilet when flushed makes the most horrendous sound which went on for 35 seconds each time, maintenance were unable to fix during our stay 4. the sofa has collapsed and is not fit for purpose, maintenance could obviously not resolve this issue 5. the outside of the property is unnecessarily dirty, needs a good jet wash and the wooden railings have not seen paint on years , even the small touches like hanging basket were full of weeds 6. there is an unclean smell which has been disguised by sickly plug inns. 7. the front door sticks, and there areas of damage in the lodge that should be addressed , I.e broken furniture that could easily be repaired. 8. there are not two decent parking spaces as advertised, if you take two cars you have to strategically park them very close together. Ok, so my experience, we stayed here for two days to celebrate a 70th birthday , we arrived on a Monday to a stone cold hot tub so I called Sykes. The engineer arrived and said the hot tub was too full ( nothing to do with us) and should have been turned on hours ago, he appeared to be blaming his colleague for this. So despite us only arriving at 4pm as this was the check in time we were told the tot tub would take 5-6 hours to heat, needless to say we never got chance to use the hot tub on day one so we were super disappointed as we were only there for 2 days. Plan B was to sit on the patio, however the view of the dilapidated lodge was so unsightly I might as well have taken my 70 year old mum to sit on the car park of the local tip. Plan C was to move inside however the sofa does not seat 6 so then you have to move wooden uncomfortable dining chairs into the living g area, and those sitting on the sofa are equally uncomfortable as the sofa has completely collapsed. Each time someone goes the loo and flushes you get 35 seconds of what sounds like a plane about to take off! This is very disturbing especially through the night. In The first 24 hours I had maintenance in to …. 1. fix the gate as the bolt fell off due to rot and I didn’t want dog to escape 2. To sort the freezing cold hot tub out but the outcome to this was to wait 5-6 hours! 3. To change a flickering light bulb in the lounge above the tv. 4. To look at the collapsed and very uncomfortable sofa 5. To try and fix the horrendous sound coming from under the sink which they could not. Needless to say I had the worst time , hated every minute ,so much so I packed up on night two and left the property at 7am on the Wednesday morning grateful I’m going to get home , can’t believe they are charging £800 for two nights For this less than adequate holiday ‘lodge’ and my poor mums birthday a disaster.

Couldn’t beat the positioning, couldn’t beat the facilities. The property it’s self just feels ‘tired’ though. It wasn’t clean - nor did the place have the gear for us to clean it ourselves (Hoover is broken and no mop/bucket etc). The second bedroom couldn’t have had clean sheets, there was hair all over it. Mould in some of the rooms. It wants some money spending on it basically. We’ll go to the same location again, but we’ll probably pay more and go for something more modern next time around

However there was everything we needed inside and the inside of the lodge was clean. The outside decking, chairs table etc need a good power wash, a lot of it has turned green. The hot tub was great. The facilities on the site were also great. One let down was there was a very bad smell as soon as we entered the lodge, like sewage. You could smell it from the bathroom, kitchen and outside near the hot tub. We did phone the out of hours number and someone came quickly but couldn’t find where the smell was coming so only gave us odour neutraliser,

It was very clean and tidy. The beds were super comfortable and the hot tub was one of the best we have had. The temperature was perfect. The only downside was the sofa. I was a bit reluctant to book at first because of them but I am glad I did. The lodge itself is a bit tired, but it is clean and well equipped. We where a group of two adults and three teenagers so was plenty of room, but think would have been a bit of a squeeze with 7 ! I did not experience any discomfort with the couch and the beds where really comfortable. We did cook while we where there and instructions of how to use the hob and cooker would have been useful but we worked it out after a while. The hot tub was great we used it lots. It was clean/hot and roomy and was maintained everyday by a member of staff . We had no issues with the proximity of the bin shed that has been mentioned in some reviews in fact if it wasn’t mentioned I wouldn’t have known it was there !! The park is great the pub/restaurant is very dog friendly and nice we eat there a few times. We got passes to use the pool but only used it once but it was ok. There is a bus stop just outside the park to take you to Ambleside/Windermere/Kendal and beyond but be aware they only run until about 8/9 pm. Overall we had a lovely chilled holiday and I would recommend Owls Nook Lodge.

The lodge was very, very tired, wallpaper falling off inside, large cobwebs in corners. dirty and blown windows. Cramped for space. Outside was worse.... whilst it had a hot tub as advertised, this was not a pleasant experience, the lodge is next to the public bins and then a view of the dilapidated shed right next to the tub, meant flies everywhere and a grubby view. The lighting on the deck was filthy. I am surprised you even advertise this lodge. I am more surprise that you didn't even respond to my complaint but you did send me a message to say... Up on first glance of the lodge it stood out from the rest in row, it’s tired, old and in need of a little love, the exterior is worn and could do with a little updating. The hot tub too, bit grubby and put family members off going in completely. Inside on arrival there was a very strong sewerage smell in the bathroom, I contacted Sykes who sorted this fairly swiftly. Inside the kitchen is lovely well equipped everything available. As previously read the reviews I’m sorry to say the sofa is uncomfortable, smells slightly too. The beds were ok and everyone slept well until our 2 days before due to leave the sound of mice or rats noring underneath the lodge in the middle of the night, this Completely put us off and we left a day early. There is a bin store next to the lodge and quiet often would see both mice and rats running around, I understand this is to be expected with water and bins but it seems to be a problem. Overall we had nice stay however wouldn’t book this particular lodge again.

The smell of raw sewage in the back bedroom was really bad (luckily we didn't have to sleep in that one) 2. There was a lot of black mould in the cupboard where the hoover was, which you could smell throughout the lodge 3. The "tiles" in the shower were slightly lifting in places 4. Maybe cleaning behind the cushions on the sofa would be a good idea as I put my hand down the back to look for my little girls dummy and there was a piece of god knows what down there. Cabin was lovely and clean and communal rooms were big. Advertises it sleeps 6 adults but honestly feel like it would've been quite tight with 6 people in, but for just us two it was fine. Living/kitchen area was spacious and very modern. The highlight for us was definitely the hot tub, which is available to use between 10am-10pm. The site itself has a pub/restaurant but it is on the pricier side. Location is great, only a short car or bus journey to Ambleside and Windermere and there are bus stops just outside the site gates. There are pool facilities but we didn't end up using them as the hot tub was enough for us. Only downside was the wallpaper was peeling a bit on two of the bedrooms. I'd definitely recommend this lodge for someone visiting the lakes for the first time (like us) or just fancying a relaxing hot tub stay.

However, I can honestly say that this was the most disappointing stay we’ve ever had. We arrived late and went straight to the site restaurant which was fab. My son went to get into bed to discover blood on the quilt cover. Clearly the bed hadn’t been changed and considering the late check in time of 4pm I very much doubt that any of the beds had been changed. Sykes assisted us the following morning and I asked for all beds to be changed. Sykes contacted me back to say that someone was coming out to change the one soiled bed. Not at all impressed with this. The hot tub was cold till the second night. I appreciate that it’s cleaned out but to have already wasted a whole day was disappointing. It was never ‘hot’ and after half an hour you had to get out as it definitely wasn’t warm enough to stay in. The third day we were having my daughter come but had to turn her away due to the stench coming from the boiler cupboard in the smallest room ( with the bunk bed) it smelt like the sewers and was awful. On the day we arrived the window in that room was open and we couldn’t understand why, now it was obvious. I contacted Sykes and they said they’d send someone out but it wasn’t worth it as we were going home early. A real disappointment in all. The couch needs replacing as it’s so un comfy and the lodge could do with a clean outside.. I don’t think this lodge is big enough for 7 people though as it was a bit of a squeeze. A shame really as it could have been nice

It met those expectations perfectly. In general the property presents really well, it is absolutely perfectly located. The staff on site as well as the online customer service team were all fantastic and I can not fault them. We enjoyed using the on-site swimming pool and walking through the woods and along by the lake. You can walk along the road as well and there is a huge play park for the kids. It is a short 15minute drive to Rydal Caves which I highly recommend. The hot tub was great when we got in, the handles were not attached which if you were a single person would make it hard to open. Luckily my partner was able to open it. Inside the beds are in desperate need of replacing, very uncomfortable as was the sofa. There is water damage in the lounge and bedrooms. The fire in the front room does not function, one of the buttons is just glued on. The drains are backed up so there was an almighty stench daily in the property. Predominately in the back bedroom and bathroom. The kettle was broken. I reported the issues via email and I was so impressed by the response of Fran from customer service who replaced the kettle straight away and called me to go through my other concerns which she was following up with the owners. She really was fantastic and we are so grateful. The property isn’t bad, it’s just tiered and needs a few little modifications. Wonderful location.

The lodge itself would benefit from a little updating, nothing major but there is a nasty dint/gouge in the shower wall and the bedroom blinds are a little tired and in need of replacement. The proximity of the lodge to the bins (especially the hot tub, which just becomes unpleasant when you're being bombarded by critters) causes a real issue with flies so perhaps providing some repellant candles or something of that ilk would help - we ended up buying buying a fly swatter. All in all, we love it at White Cross Bay (I must be about our tenth stay there) and enjoyed our break. Although probably not at this specific lodge, I hope we will return in the future.

  • "Although we had a lovely stay at Owls Nook, we won’t be returning to this lodge when there are more modern, bigger lodges for the same price."

The lounge, kitchen and bathroom had been refurbished and looked nice but the bedrooms need a complete overhaul. Having said that, the sofa has seen better days and ruins the refurbished look. The smell of damp from the wardrobes meant we had to leave doors open all of the time to ensure our clothes didn’t smell, the blinds were mostly broken and the quality of the bedding was awful. The duvet covers were all bobbly and there was a drawer missing from one of the bedrooms. The hot tub was lovely although the fairy lights were hit and miss if they would work making it a dark area at night. The wifi was non existent - we couldn’t access the Amazon prime or Netflix on the TV as the wifi didn’t work. This didn’t ruin our stay but in this day and age, it should work.

Thank you for your valued feedback. We are glad to hear that you had a lovely stay at Owls Nook. Thank you for your recommendations regards the sofa. The Maintenance Manager will look into the damp, blinds and outside lighting and the Housekeeping Manager will look into the quality of bedding used. • "We have stayed at White Cross Bay many times, in a few different lodges but have never experienced damp as bad as at Owls Nook."

The bedrooms had a terrible smell of damp, as soon as you open the doors and clothes, that had been in the wardrobe and drawers, smelt awful. A couple of things missing from the kitchen that would have been useful, a small vegetable/chopping knife, a measuring jug and a different potato peeler, the one in the cabin was like a weapon of torture. Somewhere to store coats would be good too as we had to hang wet/damp coats on the bedroom door, which didn't help with the already damp area. Good points were, the hot tub was lovely and lit up nicely on an evening, the shower was really nice and had good water pressure and the location was nice and quiet.

Thank you for your valued feedback. We will pass the damp issue onto our Housekeeping Manager and we apologies for any inconvenience caused. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

On arrival we were surprised to see a brand new kitchen! Very nice. Hot tub excellent and the storage shed was perfect for our 4 bikes and kit. The only negatives of the stay were the lack of Wi-fi - even though a router is present in the lodge with the password. Couldn’t connect and I phoned Sykes how promised to look into it and come back to me - they didn’t. Even tthe Wi-fi at the Boathouse is poor unless you are sat in the middle of the venue. When the mobile phone signal is so weak too (3 and o2), the Park really needs to invest in upgrading this and supplying all lodges. It really should be a pre-requisite these days. Other than the Wi-fi - a great time has by all.

Thank you for your review on Owls Nook a privately owned lodge, we are pleased to hear you had a wonderful stay. The WIFI is a complimentary service provided by the holiday park (Parkdean Resorts) which is only suitable for page browsing and sending emails. The lodge was really nice and in a fantastic location. Park seemed quite quiet although amenities were open and other guests were being very respectful of social distancing.
