Equipped with all the necessary items needed and true to the description and pictures. There is a secure garden area at the rear which was good for our dog when he wanted to wander outside. As others have mentioned, the front drive access is onto a busy B road, but is manageable with a second person standing on guard to direct driving on and off. Sue + Tony

It is exactly as described in quiet village with a pub 100 yards down the road. The cottage when arrived at was spotless with a little welcome package for us and the dog. Ideal location for walking or in between some great shopping locations! Cottage has a reasonable sized patio area not overlooked. Fantastic dawn views looking over the valley. BBQ supplied. Nice and cosy inside plenty of crockery and glasses, dishwasher tablets also provided. Quality bedding! The only fault we could find was the cockerel at the plough who gives it large early in the morning

  • "We had the best time, couldn’t give any overall negatives!"

Supplied a small bottle of milk, as well as tea, coffee, sugar and some snacks; thank you:) There was also a small pot of oil, salt and pepper. The fan’s in each bedroom were a life saver during the hot night, not to complain as we were very lucky to not have rain all week. The only thing to add if we’re being picky, we felt it would’ve been a bonus to ensure there are extra bin bags, washing up liquid, kitchen spray and hand soap in each of the bathrooms! And ensure all other essentials are stocked up! But other than that it’s one of the best cottages we have stayed in:) For anyone else staying in this lovely cottage I would just add that we found it easier to reverse onto the drive due to the cottage being situated on a bend/blind corner. Plenty of space for 2 large cars/small van. Would highly recommend!

Beds comfortable and particularly memorable with stars being visible through the skylights. Instructions were all embracing so no real need to contact the owners but re-assuring to know that they were on hand should any queries arise. Dim lighting very useful if wanting to move during the night. The parking was good for 2 cars but care needed to be taken when emerging on the road junction as traffic did tend to go past in all 3 directions at an alarming rate. Overall we rated this as 10 out of 10 and would not hesitate to recommend.

  • "Had a lovely relaxing week's stay at Smithy Cottage in the beautiful village of Wigglesworth."

The cottage is beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and has everything you need for a home-from-home stay. The bedrooms are spacious, beautifully presented and the log burner adds that extra level of cozyness to the cottage on those cold winter evenings. The gift basket was a lovely added bonus which contained some home-baked goodies. The cottage has a lovely private and secure garden at the rear which was ideal for our dogs and will be a lovely place to relax in the warmer months. There are multiple walks from the cottage doorstep so you can literally park up and never have a need to touch the car again until you leave. Gisburn Forest is a 15 minute drive away and is a lovely open space to explore. Equally, Settle is a 5 mile ride away and has all the amenities you need for your stay, Again, there are lots of lovely walks in and around Settle so there's plenty to do. The Plough pub is next door but 3 to the cottage and is a welcoming sight at the end of a long walk. The cottage owners, Alison and Andrew, kindly invited me up to their dairy farm where I had the pleasure of meeting some of their newborn lambs which was lovely. I would highly recommend a stay at Smithy Cottage, its a real gem.

It was exactly what we were looking for - a beautiful rural retreat with two dogs, where everything was really well thought-out and we felt totally at home. Attention to detail was fabulous. We really appreciated the welcome pack of scones, tea and coffee and beer, and we received a lovely text message from the owners upon our arrival. The pub is next door and we had a lovely drink and dinner there with our dogs on Sunday night. The pub is currently closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. All the local people are very friendly and we got chatting to people in the pub who gave us tips for fabulous dog walks the next day. We went to the lovely town of Settle and walked at Malham Cove and Gordale Scar on Monday. Absolutely stunning. We absolutely loved our stay at Smithy Cottage. Beautiful lounge, all the kitchen equipment you need, and more, and beautiful immaculately clean beds and bedding. And a super little garden to enjoy with the dogs in the sun, with coffee at breakfast time and a glass of wine in the evening. Just one tiny piece of constructive suggestion to the lovely owners. It would be a good idea to put up a stair gate for guests with dogs. We stopped our dogs from going upstairs by using the two sun chairs in the under-stair cupboard as a stair gate. But it might just be something to think about. Thank you such much for a wonderful stay xx

The cooker was storage and can take up to 2 hours to heat to temperature. Not ideal for a quick meal either am of pm. A casserole dish was not available to prepare a meal. The duvet seemed to be suitable for a cold winter. No options available. The house smelt stale on arrival No can opener, no whisk , no bowls.

In response to your negative feedback regarding your recent stay, I can only say sorry that you felt so disappointed. Guests in the property at present can confirm there is everything required including two can openers, plastic bowl, casserole dish, but agree the whisk is unavailable! These little niggles would have been so easily rectified if only you had contacted us, and would have been no problem to sort out. The welcome info and also a welcome text message both display numbers for any problems and make it clear we are happy to do so. Any issues with the stove we have taken on board and are in discussions for a more economical cooker to replace it I would also like to point out that I was originally contacted by Sykes about your request to bring FOUR dogs to the cottage. As a gesture of goodwill (and no extra money)I agreed even though the limit is usually two, but pointed out that the house rules must be observed regarding NO PETS on the soft furnishings. Unfortunately, even though it is clearly stated and under lined in the information pack, it was obvious this rule had been ignored!! Consequently the cleaning of the sofa took far longer than normal. I feel both annoyed and disappointed about this issue, but have learnt a lesson regarding people taking goodwill for granted! I have never had any complaints of stale smells so this is a mystery also. Property Owner

A total delight and a lot for your money too! Four adults and two dogs, not a problem. Comfortable, well equipped and cosy, despite a power cut, owner Alison did all in her 'power' to do what she could for us. We will return! The welcome pack was the best ever!

  • "We enjoyed our stay in Smithy Cottage."

It was warm and cosy and very clean. We found the seating in the lounge a little cramped for 4 adults, equally the dining table was barely large enough for 4 . However, on a positive note, the lovely posies of fresh flowers around the house were a nice touch and the thoughtful basket of goodies were really appreciated. Our 2 dogs were welcomed with biscuit treats and doggy bowls and towels.

  • "Nicely renovated cottage, obviously well cared for by owners."

It would probably have been ideal for 2 adults but as 2 couples we found the lounge seating inadequate and lack of toilet in en suite disappointing. The fire was lovely and it was fairly well equipped, although, we had to go and buy some cleaning products to clean sinks and toilets during our stay. We thought it was very reasonably priced and would probably have felt more positive if the weather had been better and the pub open!

  • "The cottage was spotless and provided everything practical."

We booked the cottage because the specification was 2 bathrooms but in reality the layout upstairs for the two bathrooms meant that one of the bedrooms failed to have access the either bathroom. People stayinging in one of the bedrooms caused a problem especially people of a certain age.

From the welcome tray with much appreciated goodies after an arduous journey to the flowers in each room. The beds were so comfortable, I haven't slept so well in ages. With such good weather we made good use of the barbecue eating in the garden most evenings. Also we were made to feel our dogs were welcome guests to, covers for the furniture, a dog bed and bowls under the stairs and an escape proof garden. We would definitely like to stay here again and if we had not already got plans for next year we would be booking ahead now. Thanks again for a great holiday.
