  • "We had a great stay at the cottage."

The views are amazing and despite some changeable weather, we did plenty of walking (and some running) off the doorstep. There is plenty to explore in the area and we were lucky to see lots of wildlife as we took on the local Wainwrights. The cottage is very comfortable and has a rustic charm. Neighbours were really friendly and we enjoyed the feeling of being quite remote!

  • "Lovely cottage as described we thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

Shower upstairs slightly annoying and lack of water pressure from upstairs sink, however not a huge problem. Missing plug from sink if wanted to wash up a few pots. Small things!

  • "The location and views from the cottage are stunning."

The walking from the cottage is breath-taking. As per previous reviews the cottage is a little chilly and could do with a heating upgrade, it would be nice as well for logs and kindling to be made available, its only £10-£15 from local shop. The lighting throughout the cottage is dismal and with 2-3 bulbs not working makes it worse. Lounge and bedroom lamp?? The cooking arrangements need clarification as there are induction pans but in the instructions its convection pans only?? The property folder with instructions would be better presented either in a wallet or bound, loose sheets of paper seem very cheap and unprofessional?? You need to know that the shower only starts if laid in the shower tray for 10 seconds and the water may be turned off at the mains in the downstairs bathroom. Only two toilet rolls so if you're more than two be prepared? Generally a nice cottage but with a little investment in light & heating would be a 10/10 property. PS lovely neighbours.

Thanks for your comments and so glad you loved the stunning views and location. The lighting is not something anyone has commented on - sounds as though you just had a couple of bulbs gone (which we would have been delighted to replace immediately for you if you'd mentioned it to us or the agents during your stay). There are multiple lamps in every bedroom and in the lounge, so we don't really understand your comments above on that. All the instructions on pans and on the shower are set out in the user guide and previous guests over the years have not had any issues with these so far, however we'd be very happy to guide you through this for a future visit if that would be helpful if you had any uncertainty over that. So happy to hear the feedback on the walking from the door being breathtaking - we wholeheartedly agree! :-) Property Owner

  • "Had a fantastic family week away in this delightful location."

We didn't bring a hair dryer, so having one at the property would've been a bonus. Our bad. Our major gripe was the bed in the main bedroom, both myself and my partner didn't sleep very well for the whole week , we could feel springs and restless for most nights. I thought 2 logs for the wood burner was a bit tight, and the two matches and splinters of kindling could've been more generous. The view was spectacular and the garden well tended we felt privileged to be part of it. All the other facilities were spot on and one the best properties we have stayed in "not slept in "

Hi - thanks for the comments and we're very glad you enjoyed the location and the views - and we know exactly what you mean about that privileged feeling! (we feel it too, and many guests have said something similar - the cottage has a way of drawing you in, and the valley is a special place that feels a bit like you are in on a secret). Very sorry to hear the bed wasn't to your taste - as with the rest of the cottage furnishings, the mattresses are expensive good quality branded ones (no Ikea rubbish!) and it's not something any guest has ever mentioned previously - we will have the bed checked though to make sure there is no issue. Re. the wood/kindling, as noted in the cottage arrival information, we do try to encourage a 'pay it forward' system for leaving the woodburner set and ready to be lit for the next guests and leaving a few extra logs, but unfortunately some people don't follow this when they leave despite our best efforts - but it's easy to pick up logs and kindling supplies at the garage down the road or any of the local supermarkets. We're delighted to hear that you rate the cottage as one of the best you've stayed in, and we hope to welcome you back again very soon! Property Owner

  • "Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful cottage."

One things I felt was missing was a big cooking pot. As it sleeps 6, I felt none of the cooking pots were big enough for pasta or rice for that many people. Also, none of the cups fit the coffee machine... You could also list that it has a smoothie maker, we brought our own, to find there already was one! Otherwise, lovely place, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and would happily return!

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and we would love to welcome you back again soon! The coffee cups do all fit the Nespresso machine nicely (the drip tray had just been put back on upside down we noticed after your stay so I think that was probably the issue - hopefully that helps for next time!). • "We were so pleasantly surprised by how spacious the cottage was."

It looks so much bigger and more beautiful than the pictures. The facilities are above and beyond what anyone would require. The accommodation is amazingly clean. The views are perfect. The only thing I would want improved is finishing the cottage. It would be beneficial to have a little bit more signage as we got a bit lost and had to ask for directions twice. It doesn’t help that there is no phone reception around the cottage. But otherwise the perfect getaway and we will be back!

Many thanks for your helpful feedback. Assuming "finishing' is just a typo and you were meaning "finding" the cottage on first arrival - we have now addressed this by adding a very detailed "what3words" link and extra description into the arrival instructions sent to guests which shows you the exact location of the cottage down to the location of the entrance door itself (what3words is accurate to 3 metres!) so this should resolve any issues with finding the cottage. We are so glad the the cottage exceeded your expectations - we always think the pictures can never do it justice, but it's always very nice to hear this yet again from an independent source. We're overjoyed that you found it a 'perfect getaway' - we always strive for this and we can't hope for much more than that! Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay in the cottage in the middle of April."

The setting is amazing with beautiful views from each room. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard and beautifully decorated. The kitchen is well equipped with high end appliances. Things we found difficult were that there was no option for a fold up bed in the third bedroom, which makes the place not suitable for 2 families with two kids who had to share a double bed. The signs to the cottage could be improved, as we found it challenging to find the cottage arriving in the dark. The cottage was very cold for the first two nights of our stay , so may be better to put the heating on a day before the guests arrival, if the place has not been occupied for a while in the winter/spring months .The location is ideal for a number of guided walks and in close reach ( 4 miles) of Staveley’s shop, cafe, fish and chips and pub.

Many thanks for your comments. Regarding signage, you will appreciate we are not permitted to put up signs on the national park land/road on the approach, however we have now added a very detailed "what3words" link and extra description into the arrival instructions which shows you the location of the cottage down to the location of the entrance door itself (what3words is accurate to 3 metres!) so this should resolve any issues with finding the cottage. As regards heating, we have recently since your stay added three more wall heaters to the cottage in case it gets a little chilly in the winter months (though we find guests often like to snuggle by the fire most of the time!). So glad that you enjoyed your time in Kentmere and hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "Had a week in this beautiful cottage set in a stunning location with wonderful walks from the front door."

Everything was in order, with lots of careful instructions. We were expecting the place to be freezing having looked at the reviews. This wasn’t the case at all. Upstairs was plenty warm enough. As long as doors downstairs were kept shut the rooms stayed lovely and warm there too. Lovely comfy beds, plenty of hot water for showers. Huge comfy sofa with a really efficient log burning fire and lovely sociable kitchen space, with all the equipment you need. We managed a full roast dinner on our second day! The extra touches of the welcome pack of local tea, coffee and biscuits, with the gift of the playing cards was a really nice extra touch. Everything you need for a great holiday. Thank you.

  • "Beautiful charming cottage with the most amazing view."

Everything you need in the cottage and excellent information booklet. Great walks from the cottage into the remote Kentmere and neighbouring valleys, we even saw Postman Pat in his van going over a bridge in the Longsleddale valley. Just bed to improve my reversing and buy a smaller car for the road into Kentmere. Loved our stay it’s a complete escape.

  • "This is a lovely cottage in a fabulous quiet hamlet with amazing walks on your doorstep."

The cottage is surprisingly roomy, comfortably accommodated 6 adults and using both kitchens it was easy to prepare meals. The only downside was the lack of storage space, especially for the couple in the small bedroom, living out of suitcases left on the landing is not ideal. I would recommend the owners look at this. There is no mobile service in Kentmere but the WiFi is great for keeping in touch. Just down the road in Staveley is the fab Hawkshead brewery and an amazing bakery, Friday Pizza nights are great.

Thanks for your reply. We are delighted you enjoyed the stay - we can't hope for more than a 100/100 rating - thanks for this and we hope to have you back in the near future! On the storage point, we have taken action on this and installed a new rail and hangers in the small room to address the point you made. We fully support your endorsement of the local bakery (amazing coffee and bacon rolls to die for...) and the brewery for a refreshing ale after a long day out. It still confuses people that the Hawkshead Brewery is not in Hawkshead but just next to Kentmere - Hawkshead's loss is our gain :-) Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved this cottage."

It surpassed expectations due to the spectacular location. Breath-taking is the word. Wonderful walks in all directions from the doorstep. The cottage itself was fine in summer but we imagine it would get chilly in the winter as it has no heating in the bedrooms. Oozes character though with a beautiful garden and that view! Unbeatable!

Thanks so much for the kind words and we're delighted you enjoyed your holiday so much. We're also glad we were able to get the new induction pans over to you and were very pleased to hear that they are all working well now. Being a traditional stone cottage, it can indeed get chilly in winter (we recommend a jumper and some winter socks for lounging in the cottage in the colder months) - but the morning walks from the door in the crisp air with those views followed by getting warmed up with a hot drink by the log burner is pretty good too! We very much hope to welcome you back for another stay soon. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage and tranquil location."

All as advertised and very comfortable stay other than like other review we gave up with the range induction hob as did not recognise the saucepans provided. Contacted lakelovers for some help but never heard back so we just ate out which was not our intention but enjoyed the lovely local pubs with all served really good food.

We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay and so glad that you loved the location and the cottage. The induction pans are brand new so there must be an issue with the pans for some reason (there are also standard non-induction hobs in the smaller kitchen too of course that would have worked with any pans) - thanks so much for alerting us to this and we have actioned a replacement set of pans to make sure this is resolved. We hope to have you back again soon for another stay! Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a stunning location, the views are amazing."

Spacious clean and a lovely home. Only negatives were the electric range cooker, the induction hobs were temperamental and took ages to recognise a pan, and sometimes wouldn't, so having to try and cook between the two kitchens could be a hassle. Also the cctv felt intrusive and unnecessary when guests are staying

Many thanks for your helpful comments. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and glad that you loved the stunning views as much as we do. That's really helpful feedback on the range the induction pans were brand new just before your stay and have not been previously used so it may be that the issue is with them as the range itself has always been very reliable - we will get this checked and ensure any issue is resolved. The CCTV is on the front door only and, if you stay again, do note that we are also always happy to turn this off during guest stays, it is just there to provide us with security for periods when the cottage is empty. We very much hope to welcome you back again soon for another stay at the cottage! Property Owner
