  • "It was a really lovely cottage, very clean and exactly as described."

We had a great stay there despite some awful weather and would definitely recommend it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on your stay at Old Village House.. so pleased you enjoyed it, as you say, despite the weather! Thanks again Property Owner

  • "Great property, parking for two and plenty of spaces either on the road opposite the house or pay & displays nearby."

Beautifully decorated property and lots of room for 6 adults, the en suites were generous in size, very deceptive and spacious. Didn’t attempt to carry a suitcase up the spiral staircase, left that to the youngsters. The house was very well equipped although it did take a while to find the hidden cutlery draw, if only I’d read the cottage information sheet first ☺️We had a great time and were able to find places to eat and drink with our dog within a few minutes walk. Our dog wasn’t really keen on toileting in the courtyard but we found a grassy area not far from the house. We loved our time here and would definitely book again. Two of the most senior adults fell up the kitchen steps and down but no harm done. We were warned

Thank you for taking the time to write about your time at the house… and so glad you enjoyed your time there and in the village itself… and good to hear there were no injuries tripping up/down the kitchen steps !! Thank you again!! Property Owner

  • "Old Village House is a beautifully presented property."

It was very well equipped with everything we needed and was very clean on arrival. Parking for two cars was really helpful as we had our children and their partners staying with us for most of our time there. The location is ideal for Windermere centre with plenty of places to eat and local shops to explore. A 25 minute walk down to Bowness is a nice way to start the day or you can just jump on the bus service which is reliable, clean and fairly priced. We will return.

Thank you for taking time to review your stay at the house! So very pleased you were able to relax and enjoy your time there, and the local area, with your family. Property Owner

Old Villiage House was exceptionally clean and well presented. Repeat with good facilities and thoughtful touches, we had a great time there.

Thank you so much for taking time to review your stay! And for the lovely comments about the house; so glad you enjoyed your time there and in Windermere itself. The housekeeping team that prepare the house for ‘guest arrival’ really are outstanding and so I’m always pleased when guests remark on cleanliness at the house. Thank you As an aside… a pair of specs were found at the house. If these belong to you or anyone in your party, the housekeeping team have left them at the Lakelovers office. Property Owner

The kitchen is equiped with so much of cutlery and utensils that you dont have to care about washing them twice in a day. The rooms are cozy, they smell nice and there is so much for people of all age to do in the house. Recommend it and will stay again.

It was well equipped with everything we needed, and clean on arrival. The spiral staircase to the top floor is narrow and wobbly and I don’t think this is emphasised enough in the listing.. not great for elderly/ young children etc.

The owners said they have spent 4 years renovating the house and it is certainly evident in the standards that they have achieved; it has been so tastefully done. Perfect location in the centre of Windermere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.

Everything was provided at this cosy cottage if you wanted to eat in and plenty of restaurants around and about if you chose to dine out. The cottage is in a great location and we could walk down to Bowness, we were also only a short drive from Kendal, Ambleside and Grasmere.

  • "We enjoyed a lovely week at Old Village House, 2 adults, 3 children ages 2, 12 and 14 and a dog (age 15)."

The location is fantastic for exploring the Lakes, near the train station, Booth's supermarket and lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants. The house was the cleanest holiday home I have stayed in, and the owners have left things in the property to make the visit easier – air fryer, washing maiden, dish washing liquid and tablets, tea and coffee etc. A highchair and cot bed were available under one of the beds, though the house may not be suitable for all infants as there are steps down to the kitchen and one of the ensuite bathrooms. The spiral stairs to the top floor may also be tricky for young children or the elderly but my 12 and 14 year old loved the attic room. The different levels add to the character of the property, it's quite an interesting old house, and the description does advise to take care on the steps, so we were aware of this before arrival. The house would also be great for 3 couples holidaying together as the bedrooms are all like master bedrooms with king size bed and ensuite bathrooms. There are lots of activities to do near by too, Brockholes, Beatrix Potter World, boat trips, steam train ride, aquarium and motor museum. We didn’t have time to do everything and if we decide to visit the area again, I would love to stay in the Old Village House.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give such great feedback. And I will definitely pass on your comments to the cleaning team, as I agree with you totally; they are outstanding . So pleased to hear that you enjoyed the house and the local area… and I think you did enjoy a bit of decent weather, which is always a bonus Thank you again for your lovely comments. Property Owner

  • "Nice property in a great location."

Plenty of space for a family of four. As with previous customers, the heating is a bit erratic. The towel rails were problematic. They were red hot at the bottom and cold at the top (need bleeding?) and made very loud clanking sounds at certain times until we turned the dial down. We turned them off in the end as they woke us up several times. Bedrooms need blackout blinds too as they only have basic slat blinds. Loads to do nearby and well placed for buses and trains too. Overall recommended, but please do get the heating issues sorted.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on the house, and letting us know about the towel rails. Apologies about that. The whole heating system is new and just required bleeding, which has now been done. Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the week otherwise. Property Owner

Lots of room to dry our damp coats and ample bathrooms to accommodate us all . We found the heating a bit challenging - either upstairs was cold and downstairs hot, but dining room cold. Also, occasionally there’s a loud sort of rumble - a bit like the sound of a macerator - we think from water use in the adjacent properties ? It worried us first , but we got used to it . All in all a great place - would recommend .

Thank you for your feedback, and your update on the heating. The whole system is new and just needed bleeding which has now been done. Glad you enjoyed your stay! Property Owner

  • "Really well located in the town with Booths supermarket behind and lots of places to eat close by."

A very high standard of accommodation and well equipped too. Parking on the driveway out front is a bonus. Would definitely stay again and was sorry not to be there for a second week. Point to note is that the top bedroom is up a very steep and narrow spiral staircase so would not suit everyone. The only improvements I would make (and these are very minor, which goes to show how fantastic the property is) are locks on the bathrooms and a less annoying cutlery drawer (you'll know what I mean if you stay).

Thanks for your comments, and so pleased you enjoyed the week at Old Village House and the town itself! Hopefully the quirky, double sided 'vacant/occupied' bathroom door signs allowed for privacy in the bathrooms, as intended Property Owner

The facilities are excellent, and we had a fabulous stay. The property is perfectly placed with all the local shops, bars and take aways close by. The train station is also very close by which allowed us to have some days out and leave the car at home. We could not find fault with anything and are looking forwards to a return visit. The property is decorated and furnished to a high standard. You will not be disappointed if you book and stay here.

We found the heating system confusing and difficult to manage, especially as the temperature dropped during our stay. The property is lovely and very well equipped. It's such a shame it is next to a takeaway. On the one occasion we could sit out in the late afternoon, we had to come in because of the smell. Very central and had a fabulous stay. Ages ranged from 17 to 78.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on the house...The 'nest' system was supposed to make the heating system easier to manage, so a shame that it created an issue for you. Apologies for that, but glad you enjoyed your stay nonetheless. Property Owner

However with regards to the heating the Nest control was locked and could only be accessed via a pin. The heating was set at 16, however I was able to increase to 21 on occasions other times I couldn’t because it’s controlled by the owners using their App. Living in Singapore for the last 17 years I am used to the heat and at times (to many) the house was cold ! Luckily I had the log fire

Thanks for your feedback, and apologies the heating created an issue for you during your stay, but glad you are able to utilise the log burner! The house is so well insulated, that when the plumber set the system up, and input the baseline temps, he was certain they would be sufficient. And as you say there is the flexibility to increase the temperature in the two 'zones' if needed. Thanks again. Property Owner

Whoever designed the renovation has made very impressive use of the space. We all loved it. Really central to Windermere town and having parking for 2 cars is really handy. Although just off the main road, it is well sound proofed - we never noticed traffic noise. I suppose it's worth pointing out that the spiral staircase to the attic bedroom is quite tight - although I'm 59 years old and had no problems getting up and down. Highly recommended - no negatives to report.
