  • "Reported just after arriving that the heating was not working."

The engineer arrived quite quickly but was just a plumber and knew nothing about the new heat pump that had just been installed so he supplied some electric heaters that worked fine. A second engineer turned up two days later, fiddled with the controls and said it would work after 30 minute and left - unfortunately it still didn’t work! Hot tub was lovely but was located in a position that was overlooked by other properties and had open access (no bolt on gate) so anyone could use it while we were out. Neither of the above detracted from a lovely holiday.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are sorry to hear of the issue that you experienced with the heating, and that we were unable to resolve during your stay. We take all comments on board. Thank you The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "Bathrooms need deep cleaning, both are mouldy, moreover the ensuite shower room water was not draining properly."

Small bedroom is extra small not sure if you may consider extending it a bit if possible. Throw blanket in the living room needs washing. Otherwise the rest was excellent my family and I enjoyed our stay at the Belfry.

Thank you for your feedback. We take all comments on board, and they will be passed on to the relevant teams. We hope that you would come back to the Lakes again. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "This property is not fit for rental and holiday lettings and we were very disappointed by our overall experience."

Every room in the Belfry has black mould throughout - all windows and frames are covered in black mould, there was black mould on the bed sheets and on the curtains. We were unable to sleep in the main bedroom as there was such a mouldy stench and I have left the property with a stuffed nose. I contacted Sykes who did send out workmen however it was a partial treatment and requires much deeper work and attention to sort the problem. Other issues include the en suite bathroom as it stunk and the drainage didn’t work properly. Small things like the 5 bulb chandelier in the main bedroom only had 3 bulbs working, were disappointing. Lastly we were awoken on Friday morning at 7:30am to a leaf blower outside the bedroom windows which went on for an hour - no sleep ins at the Belfry! Overall the property has real potential - it’s nicely decorated, lovely furnishings (the table, chairs and couch) and it’s in a great location however the fundamental issues with the property far outweigh any of the benefits. Given the price we paid to stay at the Belfry, it fell well below expectations and the cleanliness alone is enough for me to not recommend it to anyone.

Dear Clare, We are very sorry you've not had the best experience at The Belfry. We have read and understood your comments. Thankfully, the maintenance team from Lakelovers attended at your request and resolved most of the issues during your stay. We have investigated the mold issue you found and it has now been treated, although we have to express the extent was not as bad as this review suggested. New checks will be now put in place and any issues dealt with as soon as they arise. The on suite bathroom had a small drainage problem just like any household and from time to time needs unblock treatment which has now been carried out. The cleaning team have been asked to carry this out more frequently. The light bulbs that were out have also been replaced. We hope you return to the Lake District soon and have a nicer experience. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "We loved The Belfry and would not hesitate to stay here again."

The open plan upstairs lounge and kitchen is gorgeous and well equipped with everything you need including a welcome pack and a cleaning pack. The bedrooms were comfortable and bathrooms lovely. Location is perfect .. just minutes from the village centre on foot. Bus stops outside on main road and the 599 service every 20 mins in summer timetables takes you to all main attractions. One toilet doesn’t flush well as others have reported…downstairs lighting flickered quite a bit and we did think security could be a tad better… you cannot lock the door with the key from inside although there is a bolt. The entrance to the yard isn’t secure as no lock to wooden fence door. but it does appear to be a quiet area. The church bells ring constantly but didn’t bother us. Some reported a smell of damp downstairs and there is a hint of mustiness but again didn’t bother us. It’s an old building with great charm and a modern interior. The hot tub was awesome and available to use from arrival. The lane from main road to property is indeed very narrow and we turned our wing mirrors in for safety but it is passable with care. Plenty of parking space. This is a fantastic property and we would highly recommend it.

Easy to walk into Windermere and Bowness as well as easy access to main roads. The Belfry was spotless and comfortable. Lots of information on hand for places to visit as well as how to work the amenities within the house. Hot tub was checked daily by a company, which had no impact on us. Hot tub was great, loved the timed fairy lights too. Great for bat and owl watching. We would 100% consider coming here again.

  • "Generally good but with a few niggles."

The L shaped sofa is too soft and uncomfortable. The back rest is too far back and the cushions too soft. The dinner and small plates need changing to a flatter design as the upward lip around the edge means they don't fit the dishwasher rack so we ended up handwashing. A seperate dryer would be much more useful than a combined washer/dryer as a drying cycle takes four hours and is very noisy. An external washing line would be a good addition. The dining table is not hygienic. It is a big piece of wood but there is a large crack and a big hole in it where you can see crumbs etc have dropped in and can't be cleaned out. Likewise the chairs and bench seat look nice but they are hard and uncomfortable after a while. The freezer needs de-frosting as it's caked with ice. The toilet in the master en-suite needs sorting as it doesn't flush very well. Also the shower doesn't drain very fast so the tray is nearly overflowing when running. We had to lift the plug from the drain hole to make it drain quicker. The weirdest thing is that because this was obviously a larger building split up to provide separate accommodation, the window in the small bedroom looks out onto the garden of the property next door.

  • "This is a beautiful property, well equipped, and completely true to the photos."

We were impressed with the cottage's location, the furnishings, the parking, almost everything! There are a couple of problems with the cottage, and this is more for the owner's awareness: The smells linger - no matter how high the extractor fan is on or how wide the window are opened. The ground floor is damp and musty - again, no matter how wide the windows and doors are open. The dehumidifier in the master bedroom didn't seem to work at all. Overall, it's a truly lovely place with a great hot tub! We loved our stay and would highly recommend!!

The property is finished to a very high standard and the kitchen is well equipped with everything we needed during our stay. The beds are very comfortable with quality bed linen and towels provided, including for the hot tub which we made good use of. The only minor issue is the very narrow entrance to the property - the solution was to turn the car wing mirrors inward to avoid problems. We have already recommended The Belfry to our friends.

Good car parking, although the drive to get to the property is very narrow and would struggle to fit a larger car. The property itself was excellent. Very comfortable, perfect size. Such a lovely touch to have christmas decorations!! Also included towels for showers and to use in the hot tub. The private hot tub was excellent, although not warm enough to use on the first night of the stay (we assume that the water had been changed that day for us arriving). Perfect place for a girly catch up holiday!

The location of this cottage is perfect, just a short stroll from the town centre with bars and restaurants. The decor is stunning and the furniture is very high quality, I think I slept better here than I do at home! We made use of the hot tub which was lovely to have. Hot tub was very welcome after walking, with towels and 'glasses' provided for use in it. The appliances and the kitchen were high quality, everything was there that we needed (no need to bring bottle opener, peeler, grater etc). The smart TV was a very welcome addition, access to all streaming services which was great for relaxing after the hot tub. The property is literally 3 minutes walk from town but even though it is right in the heart of everything it was so peaceful and quiet, no road noise, no neighbour noise, felt like it could have been the middle of nowhere so we got a quiet nights sleep every night.
