The property

This ground floor apartment in a cosy cottage is situated just off the main road in the centre of Windermere. Thyme Cottage is ideal for a couple’s retreat, as it offers peace and quiet while being located in one of the most popular villages in the Lake District. All situated on the ground floor, the apartment offers a luxurious stay with a spacious open plan sitting room with two leather reclining chairs and a TV and DVD player, perfect for relaxing after a busy day of exploring.

The contemporary kitchen is well-equipped and the bedroom includes a king size bed.

The bathroom adds to the luxury of staying in Thyme Cottage with underfloor heating and a monsoon shower. Couples can relax in the private front garden with furniture, which is ideal after a day of exploring the beautiful Lake District. The buzzing village of Windermere offers a range of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, which are right on your doorstep.

Bowness-on-Windermere, which is just over a mile away, also offers its own array of shops and restaurants, as well as the famous World of Beatrix Potter Attraction.

You can also marvel at the stunning views from Bowness Bay such as Belle Isle - the largest island on Lake Windermere. For couples looking to venture further afield, the bus and train station in Windermere is only a five minutes walk away from the apartment, meaning you can leave your car while exploring other areas of the Lake District.

The historic market town of Kendal on the outskirts of the Lake District can be accessed by train in just 15 minutes.

Or if you’d like to sail away, you can jump on a Lake Cruiser from Bowness Bay and explore villages dotted around Lake Windermere, including Ambleside, Brockhole and Lakeside. Ideally located as a base for discovering the Lake District, Thyme Cottage is the perfect couple’s retreat with the delights of Windermere on its doorstep.

Windermere Train Station 1.5 miles: Ambleside 5 miles; Kendal 7 miles.

The vibrant twin towns of Bowness and Windermere hold enduring appeal for visitors to the Lake District National Park, with each providing a range of nearby attractions, amenities, cinema, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. A variety of boat trips and boat hire are available from Windermere Lake Cruises in Bowness to Brockhole, Ambleside and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated). The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and the Old Laundry Theatre are 1.5 miles away. Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic guidebooks, is a 30-minute walk to enjoy the spectacular panorama of far-reaching views over the lake and surrounding fells. Brockhole, which offers high wire tree top experiences, is three miles away, and the historic villages of Grasmere, Ambleside and Troutbeck are a short drive away. There is also a variety of watersports on offer for the more energetic at marine centres along the lake. The area is ideally situated for exploring all that this region has to offer, whether by foot, bike, car, railway or bus; and is within easy reach of attractions such as the spectacular Langdales, Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top House at Far Sawrey, Coniston, Grizedale Forest Park, with its delightful walks and famous outdoor sculptures, mountain biking and 'Go-Ape' adventure park, Ullswater, Kendal, Keswick, stone circles, Roman forts and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike.
