"Kath, Neil Mike and Tracey, We had a lovely stay at the property , it was very comfortable with everything you need ."
Central to lots of places to visit, including Dumfries, Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie. We went on lots of walks including Rockford and Kipworth and coastal walks . We also visited the bird sanctuary. A lovely part of the country .

"Having rented cottages for our annual trip to Scotland for over 30 years, this was the best property we have ever had."
The best equipt, warm under floor heating, comfortable spacious bedrooms three of which were ensure, good information about house and surrounding area, visit from owners to check we had everything we needed. In a quiet area but with everything we needed within a couple of minutes, very friendly locals, local pub well worth a visit, This property was a bit more than we usually pay but we'll worth the extra and great value for money.

"Very nice property but our stay had a problem."
The bedroom doors have electronic keypad locks which we had no need for but shortly after we arrived one of these locks activated on a bedroom we were using locking my companion out with all her personal effects inside. I rang the two numbers for the owners, one which stated 24 hours and got leave a message on one and the other was being used. After an hour still the same so I rang Sykes. Spoke to Jemma who was very helpful but got exactly the same and she also emailed and texted. I tried many times through the night and around 0700 the next morning got a text and eventually a WhatsApp call. Within minutes I was given the codes and door opened. The owners and their son had gone on holiday to Thailand (I think) and had made no alternative arrangements for any emergency contact. The son who I spoke to gave me ridiculous reasons about the time differences and not wanting to wake his father up because he is seventy years old. I am seventy seven and my companion is ninety four. You have to have very little common sense or no thought for your customers to travel half way around the world and think you can be contactable 24/7.

"Beautiful and clean cottage."
Some of the facilities let us down.

"Superb accommodation located within 5 minutes walk of beach and local restaurants."
Large secure outside play area for all. This house was well presented with everything you need for a holiday break. The bedrooms are large and the on suites first class. The only issue we had was door locks on bedrooms which are pin controlled, but the problem was easily sorted by a phonecall. Highly recommended.

"We have had the most relaxing and enjoyable week!"
Spacious house perfect for group or large family. We found it to be very well equipped, huge kitchen with everything you could need. 2 ground floor spacious en-suite bedrooms a huge plus for those who are less mobile, another en-suite bedroom upstairs along with a twin room and separate bathroom. We loved that we all had our own bathroom! Beds and bedding all felt luxurious and we had amazing sleeps every single night for a week! Towels provided were soft and fluffy! House has a spacious lounge downstairs with plenty of comfortable seating but also has bonus of additional lounge upstairs which gives a lot of extra space and makes for nice views across the water. Large garden and secluded spot was very quiet even though near the busy caravan parks. Contact from the owner during the week which was not intrusive, we knew if there was any concern we could make contact which was nice. A few points for reference - the TV’s have no aerials but are smart TV’s so you can stream live TV or programs from library on BBC iPlayer or ITV X for example - but if not savvy with doing this you may think not able to watch any TV. (Also can watch other streamed services - Netflix) Maybe owner could leave some guided instructions for this as would definately help! Also the hot water never lasted for us all to have a shower, so this would be nice to be improved upon if possible for future guests. Tumble dryer in garage and once located we struggled to make it work so gave up, thankfully weather improved so we were able to dry clothes outside. Instructions for this couldn’t be found so these should also be provided and information to say it’s in garage.

"As we booked at very short notice the owner didn’t have time to do a full clean but it was acceptable."
The beds were amazingly comfortable.the house was very well equipped and was huge.ideal for a large family .large fenced garden with gate so suitable for children.very poor tv reception but plenty of DVD’s to watch and games to play, books also.didn’t want to leave

"The property was perfect for our Christmas family break."
It was warm and welcoming with the added bonus of a beautiful Christmas Tree. The beds were very comfortable and the whole property is furnished to a high standard with a well equipped kitchen. We particularly loved the first floor lounge with views out over the Solway. The beach and lighthouse are very close for walks. Some of our party are less mobile than others so having ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms was ideal. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return some day.

"An ideal base to explore Dumfries and Galloway."
The property was easy to find and we were met by the owner on arrival. The property was clean, spacious and very well presented. The kitchen in particular was very well provided with utensils and equipment. Towels were provided, which makes a huge difference when travelling as a large family. The owner messaged during the week to make sure there were no issues, which was a nice touch but not intrusive. The property has sea views and is a short stroll from the beach, from where you can take long walks in either direction. There is lots to see and do in the surrounding area (and further afield) and I would thoroughly recommend this property.

"Great time at the house, well situated."
House has everything you need and more. A couple of things could be fixed to make it 5 stars all round, TV has no signal through aerial which is a pain, hot water never lasted long enough for everyone to shower and the house was very warm and that was with thermostats turned down but we worked around these issues and had a great time and would come back, hopefully the owner has a look at these issues especially the TV aerial because if you are not into technology you will be watching the news channel for a week
Dear Mr Shearer, thanks for your very favourable response and we note your recommendations. We will look into terrestrial tv. Property Owner

"We had a lovely time at Quare Place."
Great size and layout, very cosy and comfy. Good location and very quiet and peaceful even though there were caravan parks nearby. Would highly recommend.

"A very comfortable and spacious house, in a quiet spot despite the nearby busy holiday parks."
Kitchen was extremely well equipped [only lacking an ice-cream scoop], beds and sofas large and comfy, upper lounge was great for the evening and views across the Solway. Large driveway and garden and garage for storing beach equipment etc. Dryer not found until last day, and it was in use? good recycling information & bin system. Ground floor rooms great for the less able or wheelchair user. Let down slightly by lack of attention to details - cobwebs, leaking towel rails, shower fans & lights etc. [Though hopefully now rectified as we left a list]. Overall, a great base for exploring the area for a group or large family, shore on the doorstep and country and history inland.
Dear Wilma, Thanks very much for your review of the Quare Place, and your note on the fridge ..we actioned all your recommendations and observations straight away. We're glad you found the house comfortable and hopefully see you again in the future. Property Owner

About the location
SOUTHERNESS
Castle Douglas 19 miles; Dalbeattie 13 miles; Dumfries 16 miles.
Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to three pubs, two village stores, a leisure centre with a pool at Parkdean and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.
