  • "A beautiful cottage."

Really well kept and well equipped!

Hi sally. Thank you for your kind comments, we are always glad to receive positive feedback. The cottage is our second home as we are retired, and when we have guests we like them to have the same home comforts that we enjoy when we are there. It would be lovely to have you back some day. Thanks again. Tony and Lesley Honeybee Cottage Property Owner

  • "Honeybee is a lovely, comfortable, well equipped cottage, within the Whitbarrow Holiday Village which has excellent facilities for the whole family."

It's in a beautiful location within easy reach of many Lake District attractions. We only have one suggestion for improvement - more cutlery please! It is so well equipped with crockery and cooking utensils that cutlery was the only thing we had to wash up by hand between dishwasher runs. We'd highly recommend and will be back.

Mr Gamage. Hi and thank you for your kind feedback. We will take on board your comments and ensure there is extra cutlery for the cottage. Only a few weeks ago we replaced all the old with new cutlery, but we do have another spare set at our home, which unfortunately is 120 miles away . The cottage is our retirement home when not used by guests, so we try to use things in it that make it homely for guests and ourselves for when we visit. We look forward to welcoming you back. All the very best Tony & Lesley Honeybee Cottage Property Owner

  • "The cottage is situated on a little complex, which is well maintained."

The cottage is well equipped, especially the kitchen, and there are lots of board games. There is a great cafe close by (northern lakes base camp). Beds are comfy, but the rooms are very small. Overall good stay.

  • "Our second stay at HoneyBee for Chritsmas, it's absolutely beautiful."

The cottage itself has everything that you need, absolutely spotless and very spacious. We love it here, the site grounds are beautiful. Location is perfect on site as well as visiting other areas. The pool is lovely and perfect for all ages. Aqua fun is great. Breakfast with Santa was fantastic. There was a magic show during our stay, he was absolutely brilliant. It was worth every penny, there was also a disco one night, didn't keep the children entertained for very long though. Could do with more on for children, there are so many children on site, kids activities should also be included. Overall can't wait to go back, we love HoneyBee cottage.

  • "This is a perfect cottage that enjoys all the facilities of the Whitbarrow Holiday Village."

We had a fabulous week with our grandchildren and enjoyed the swimming pool every day. We used the gym, steam room and the sauna. The property is equipped with everything that you might need. We cooked most days and not once did I need something that wasn't there. The DVD collection has something for everyone and if you forget your book there's a whole bookcase to choose from. The location is great for visiting all the highlights of the Lake District. 10 miles to Keswick in one direction and 10 miles to Penrith in the other. I asked the grandchildren where they would like to go next year and they want to come back to Honey Bee Cottage. We will be back!

Good morning Sue. Thank you so much for your very kind feedback, we are so pleased that you and your family had a good time. It would be lovely to have you back at some time in the future. Tony & Lesley Honeybee Cottage Property Owner

  • "Whoever is cleaning this property does not do a good job."

We had to move tv/coffee table to side to give space to our 9 moths old baby. We have found food leftovers under it. Vacuum cleaner that is in the property is clogged, full of hair, it suction force is non existent. Someone left dirty pot and frying pan. Some of these pans require replacement as teflon layer is coming off. This place requires a general, thorough clean. On the plus side it was quiet, we have had access to pool, children's area. People in reception friendly and helpful

  • "Cottage is absolutely gorgeous."

So spacious, has everything included, nothing that it doesn't have. Absolutely spotless. Where it is situated is perfect, not too far from the main facilities. Would love to come back, has the most perfect Christmas here.

Thank you so much for your kind words; we try to keep on top of making the cottage a lovely holiday home so it’s really rewarding to hear that you had a nice time over Christmas. Wishing a happy new year to you and yours, Lesley and Tony Property Owner

  • "Property was ok, comfortable beds but very tired in places."

The bread bin was in pieces & should have been replaced. One of the sofas needed replacing & the 2 fans in the upstairs bathrooms needed some attention & a good clean. The outside balcony was unusable due to the amount of cobwebs (sounds picky I know but these were thick matted together cobwebs all over needing a good scrub to remove them) however it was lovely to see the rabbits and ducks roaming freely outside. The pool was great but the jacuzzi there was out of action for our entire stay. The kids room was great & the golf & frisbee golf were a great addition. We had drinks on the veranda of the bar which was lovely but found to be very expensive & lastly there was a hand written note in the front of the information pack which stated our checkout time was 9:30 not 10am as stipulated in all correspondence & on the Sykes website. This needs clearing up it may only be half an hour but it does make a difference.

Good morning Lee. Thanks for your feedback, as new owners we appreciate all comments and if there are areas of concern we need to address them as soon as practicable. Firstly regarding the beds, the main bedroom had its double bed replaced by a king size, with brand new headboard when we purchased the property last year. The same with the twin bedded room. It’s difficult to accommodate all tastes, so we have medium firmness mattresses. Regarding the one uncomfortable sofa, we are in the process of replacing the whole of the suite before the end of the year. Thanks for mentioning the damaged bread bin, clearly something we were unaware of. The bathroom fans will be brought to the attention of the contracted cleaning company as will the balcony, although their ability to control the spiders may be difficult. As regards the check out time, we have no idea why that’s there, checkout is as the website says, 10.00am Sadly, the site facilities are beyond our control and we will speak with the Company to clarify the issue. Aside from that, we hope you had a good time. The cottage is, in the main our holiday home so it’s in our interests to ensure that it’s in good order. Further to the above message in the past weeks the property has been further upgraded with new hob and oven and a new four piece living room suite. The single beds have each had new duvets but sadly the cobwebs outside keep returning!! Tony & Lesley Thanks Tony & Lesley Property Owner

  • "The on-site facilities were fantastic and we enjoyed the pool and activities available."

The Eden Restaurant served good food but we felt it was a little pricey for a family of 5. The cottage itself was great and the kids liked the Honeybee theme although the bedrooms could do with blackout blinds and the pillows were not the comfiest. Everything else was top notch from the DVD collection to the books in the bookcase, lots of thoughtful touches..... Just make sure you empty both fridges when leaving!

Hi Duncan. Thank you very much for your kind feedback. We have had the cottage for just over a year now, and tried to make it homely with our own bits and bobs. Hope to see you again Property Owner

  • "Fantastic cottage."

Immaculately clean and decorated with many home touches. The kitchen lacks nothing except a washing machine but there is a laundry on site if needed. The owner has left the kitchen cupboards fully stocked with groceries, herbs and spices etc and encouraged us to use them as we needed. Would really recommend this beautiful cottage. Whitbarrow village is in a beautiful location with great views from the bar and restaurant. The facilities are superb with a gym, pool, sauna, games room etc. There is also a putting green, crazy golf and outdoor chess (all included in the price). There is a bar and restaurant on site but the restaurant was closed for the majority of our stay due to technical issues so we cannot vouch for the food. There is no shop onsite and none nearby so a bit of forward planning is needed regarding provisions. Finally, the bar, reception and cleaning staff were all very friendly and professional.

About the location

PENRUDDOCK

Keswick 11 miles; Penrith 6 miles.

The charming old village of Penruddock sits in a secluded position in the northern Lake District between Keswick and Penrith, and just four miles from Ullswater. The village is spread out amongst beautiful rolling countryside and wonderful scenery and is made up of a number of farm dwellings, traditional Lakeland homes and two churches. Penruddock originated in Celtic times, with the name derived from Pen, a Celtic name for 'hill' and 'rhuddawc' meaning red in Welsh to reflect the reddish brown colour of the soil found in the area. Nearby, the popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the north of the Lake District and has plenty to offer, boasting numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, some good parks, the Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema and the beautiful lake. Penruddock provides easy access to the spectacular surrounding Cumbrian countryside which can be explored by both car and on foot, and with the southern Lakes, Eden Valley, Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall all within easy motoring distance this great location has plenty to see and do for all the family.
