Oakdene is a cottage set in the lakeside village of Portinscale, close to Keswick in Cumbria, providing an excellent base for couples or friends keen to explore the Lake District.

With Derwentwater just a short stroll away and walking routes from the doorstep, it’s well placed for making the most of this striking landscape.

The kitchen/diner is fitted with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster, giving you everything required for easy meal preparation.

There’s space to sit and dine together before moving through to the sitting room, where a woodburning stove offers a welcoming focal point after time spent on the fells.

It’s an ideal spot to rest tired legs following walks around Catbells, along the shores of Derwentwater or further into the Borrowdale Valley.

The cottage includes two double bedrooms, offering a straightforward and comfortable layout for small groups.

The bathroom is equipped with a bath and shower over, basin, heated towel rail and WC.

Central heating, WiFi, bed linen, towels, fuel and power are all included, helping to ensure a hassle-free stay.

Outside, the enclosed garden features a patio, lawn, pond and summer house, creating a pleasant space to sit out and take in the peaceful village setting.

Off-road parking is available, along with additional roadside spaces if required.

Portinscale has a friendly pub nearby, while Keswick offers a wider range of shops, cafés and restaurants, along with attractions such as the Theatre by the Lake and the Derwent Pencil Museum.

Bassenthwaite Lake provides opportunities for watersports and wildlife spotting, and the market town of Cockermouth is worth a visit for its independent shops and links to William Wordsworth.

Ullswater and Aira Force waterfall are also within easy reach for further scenic walks.

Oakdene makes a well-situated base for discovering lakes, mountains and traditional Cumbrian towns.

The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater. With plenty of attractions for the kids, lovely parks and the nearby Lake District Wildlife Park this is a great Lakeland destination whatever the time of year.
