  • "A beautifully presented lodge with a beautiful setting."

Very peaceful. Immaculate inside. Very comfortable beds and perfect for our needs. Loved watching the wildlife on the riverbank, especially the kingfisher. We had a lovely week, will definitely be booking again and would recommend this lodge to anyone thinking about booking it. Only thing I would suggest is maybe some small signage on roadside to help locate Milton Park (we drove past a few times till we actually saw it!

  • "First impressions were very good."

Very clean inside the chalet, lovely position of the chalet overlooking the river and not overlooked. Plenty of utensils and crockery, a lovely utility room with washer & dryer. Nicely furnished living area and bedroom were of a good size. For us, the Sofas were a little uncomfortable as they were much softer than we are use to. There was a lovely seating area with table chairs and parasol on the decking outside. The site so very quiet, secure & peaceful. Some amazing walks within easy walking distance and situated a short walk away from the village with its quaint tea rooms and pubs. There were however a few tiny details that held me back from giving this property an excellent review and these would be easily rectified. The annoying toilet roll holder in the main bathroom is very loose and about to fall off. We tried to tighten it up but were not successful so it would just need replacing. It rained heavily one day and we found that the rain was coming in very slightly through the velux window so we had to place a towel on the floor to soak it up. The freezer drawers were all stuck and 2 of them broken. There was a drawer full of ice creams & lollies when we arrived that someone had left in there however the drawers were broken so we couldn’t remove the products so no idea how long they had been in there. The cleaner should have emptied these out before our arrival but perhaps she could get the drawers open either. There were two can openers with the utensils but neither of them worked, again a minor detail but easily resolved by replacing. The worst thing was, that although the inside of the chalet was immaculately clean the outside needed a brushing down and cleaning as it was full of cobwebs under the eaves and around the doorways. Just small easily rectified things however there was more things that were good about this place that it would not stop us from booking again.

  • "Woodpecker Lodge is a spacious, very clean and nicely furnished holiday home."

It has an open view of the countryside and as it faces away from the other lodges the decked balcony is private. We were there in August and it was very peaceful and quiet. The only issue is lack of shower mats in both bath rooms, hence given only 4 stars for facilities- the mats really should be installed for the safety of guests.

  • "Inaccurate - views of the river, also frustrating as steep inaccessible grass bank blocked view."

All on one level, excepting 5/6 steps to access lodge itself ! Maintenance issues , loo roll holder fell off wall, unable to open majority of freezer drawers without causing damage or wardrobe door in small bedroom. No draining facilities for crockery etc or washing up supplies. Didn’t use dishwasher - too few items each time. However clean, warm and with comfortable beds. Site reminiscent of holiday camps, also with irritating constant admonitions/instructions

Your review of our lovely Woodpecker Lodge is extremely surprising, and really quite unkind. Not once in the past 6 years have we ever had anyone describe our park as a holiday camp!!!! You are staying in timber frame built lodges, with beautiful red cedar cladding, of which retail at 300k so i am surprised you think it is like a holiday camp. The description of the lodge is put together by Sykes themselves, and is completely accurate that the accommodation is all on one level, yes there are about 4 steps up to the decked area that surrounds the lodge, however this is unavoidable. Before you stayed in the lodge the toilet roll holder was fine, and it clearly broke during your stay which you did not inform us about and of course we are now replacing. That is just unlucky that that happened during your stay, unfortunately things like this can happen. I'm very confused about your comment saying there are 'irritating constant instructions' I actually have no idea what you are on about. Yes there are instructions for the tv, cooker, heating etc, I'm sure you would complain if there wasn't and you couldn't' work something! Apologies for the freezer, this was missed and the cleaner has defrosted this now it does freeze up from time to time. I don't think Milton Park is the place for you and we hope you have happy holidays elsewhere in the future. Property Owner

It was so very peaceful, and a great location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. The Masons Arms food (just down the road) was great, as was the Indian in the village and the fish and chip shop. We will definitely book again. The only negative was the lack of Wi-Fi, but we got use to the peacefulness of not having it.

  • "Lovely well equipped, and maintained lodge in a great position by the river."

We enjoyed watching the local wildlife, oyster catchers, rabbits play. Site easy walk to Gargrave with excellent access to lots of local walks. Only downside is the lodges are very close together, so you are at the mercy of the other occupants of the site. Being woken up before 7am by the bass thud thud thud reverberating through the entire lodge from next doors music was not great, I didn’t mark it down for this, as not Sykes / the owners fault. Shame as apart from this it would have been perfect.

  • "We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend."

A few comments for your information:- the locks on both doors are very hard to use, the front door appears to be locked when it isnt, perhaps some WD40 would help? The skylight leak by the sink, was a bit of a pain, but that has been reported. We had to buy a rubber bathmat for the bath as it was not safe for an elderly person to use without, would be worth buying and have in the bathroom. I echo another visitors comment about the sofa being uncomfortable, it sort of eats you up! A minor niggle, I have never been asked to strip the linen off the beds before, when leaving, which I don't like to have to do, and was surprised to see no pillow protectors on the pillows. Other than those few points all was good and we were pleased that it was nice and warm, especially when it snowed.

Only faults were walk in shower base in en suite was very slippy and we had to buy a shower mat to prevent a fall happening, and looking at the other lodges it appears there are blinds in the second bedroom which we not present here. As this room was occupied by adults and also was facing the entrance it was quite exposed. Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday

  • "Great cottage in convenient location, with everything we could need, we really enjoyed our stay."

A couple of minor points; no blinds in the second bedroom which meant it was very bright even with curtains drawn (not ideal for our children who woke very early, and may be a privacy issue when new lodges are built next door), there was some half eaten food in cupboards that hadn’t been cleaned out before we arrived, and the lodge next door played music which whilst not especially loud was disturbing as the bass really carried. Notwithstanding these small points we would recommend and come back!

Disappointed with the skimpy bath towels. As a top notch property should have the large bath sheets. Property could do with WiFi connection. Crumbs and un wiped food debris on table and table mats. Black mould on shelves in shower. Having said our niggles, we would recommend the property and return ourselves. It was warm with comfy beds and nice bed linen. Nice location. Thank you

Good quality finish and well set out inside and out. The best lodge, cottage etc we have stayed in. Two very small suggestions:We were there in December and the decking got very slippery. It was clean and warm [we stayed in November] and would thoroughly recommend for anyone who needs to stay near Skipton for a holiday. Very well equipped for four persons to stay. The Gargrave station is an ideal start point if you wish to travel the Settle to Carlisle scenic railway journey. This is not a complaint but an observation for future guests there is no Wi-Fi or broadband available at the lodge and with the covid restrictions no attraction leaflets are allowed so you would need to do homework before you travel regarding things to do while staying.. Future guest will have a great time just as we did. Thanks to the owners for making the lodge available to us

The are about 7 or 8 lodges on the site with clearly at least another 7 planned and as far as we are concerned we would not visit the site again. Gargrave is a good centre for visiting the southern Dales of Ribblesdale, Malhamdale and Wharfedale and the Trough of Bowland, a lot less busy area, is well worth a visit. We would particularly commend visiting the Keelham Farm Shop about 3 miles away just on the Skipton side of the A59 bypass to do your food shopping. A refreshing change from the Tesco's of this world.
