Very comfortable, plenty of indoor space for everyone and secured outdoor space for the dogs, we had a very relaxing holiday and being positioned next to a working farm gave additional amusement to the children. Thank you from Pam, Alex and family

  • "We recently stayed at Meadow Top Farm Barn, booked through Sykes Cottages, and found the property itself to be absolutely stunning."

The barn is beautifully set out, with a thoughtful layout and excellent amenities that made for a comfortable stay. The picturesque surroundings and serene environment added to the overall charm, making it an ideal retreat. However, our experience was unfortunately marred by a significant issue with the septic tank. The tank was broken, resulting in a pervasive odor that infiltrated the property. This smell made the barn uninhabitable, impacting our ability to enjoy our stay. Despite being assured by the owners that the issue would be rectified within a certain timeframe, these promises were not kept. We were forced to leave the property at 10:40 PM with a disabled person and a two-year-old child who were both in bed at the time. The owners have not accepted liability for the situation and have not offered a refund, despite the negative health effects of cesspit gases and the considerable inconvenience we faced. Exposure to gases like hydrogen sulfide, methane, ammonia, and carbon dioxide can cause serious health issues such as respiratory irritation, headaches, dizziness, nausea, and even life-threatening conditions like respiratory failure and asphyxiation. Additionally, Sykes Cottages has been unhelpful, stating that they cannot do anything to assist us in this matter. Due to these issues and the lack of resolution, we would not consider returning. We hope future guests do not encounter similar problems and that the owners and Sykes Cottages take immediate action to resolve this serious issue.

In response to your review. We are pleased to hear that you did find our holiday home to be absolutely stunning We are, however, disappointed that you have left such a negative and somewhat unfair review. You are correct, there was an issue with the septic tank. With this being a new property and you being some of our first guests, you unfortunately bore the brunt of teething issues. You brought to our attention the problem with the odour from the septic tank in the evening (approximately 9pm) out of normal working hours for trades people. We arranged for contractors to come to the property and they were on site rectifying the problem first thing in the morning. You have stated that no contractors came to the property, which is incorrect. There were in fact drainage, plumbing and electrical contractors on site from the morning. They did not need to enter the property and carried out all works outdoors behind the hot tub building and at the rear of the property. Thus causing no disturbance to your privacy in the house. You can attest to that, as we needed to ask you to temporarily switch off the electric in the house to allow for work to be carried out. At no time did you attempt to engage with us regarding your concerns about contractors not being on site or our apparent lack of trying to rectify the issue. The problem had been resolved during the day and you decided to leave the property late at night when we the owners were in bed. Had you contacted us directly we could have had a discussion, instead you decided to leave all of your possessions in the house, take the keys and then return the following day to collect your belongings. You again did not attempt to make contact only via text message once you’d left for the second time. We are truly sorry that you feel we did not do everything we could to rectify the problem. The tank was fixed within hours of you reporting this to us. I’m unsure as to what more we could have done? I’m I hi hi Property Owner

  • "Our stay was absolutely amazing, and the owners where fantastic also."

Super clean and outside was very tidy and well maintained. We stayed with our 3 dogs and they had a blast being able to freely roam around the fully fenced plot. Hot tub was fantastic and even had its own building with toilet/shower etc Will absolutely be staying again!
