  • "It was a pleasant stay in a lovely area."

The lodge is looking a little tired and a few things are looking worn. The double bed slats were broken which fell apart on first night. We fixed it ourselves. A couple of the dining chair legs were bent and didn’t feel safe to use. The bulbs were missing from bedside lamps and we moved them round as needed them for children’s rooms. There was no hoover and no shovel for the brush so hard to keep on top of cleanliness. The highlight was the hot tub which we made great use of and which made the weekend.

  • "The property is great for a large group with plenty of modern, social space."

The location is very peaceful and quite isolated, but with several small villages within a few miles. Unfortunately, there was a significant issue with a drainage/sewer problem causing a terrible smell and rendering the main bathroom and one bedroom unusable. The owner tried to help and booked a plumber but this was for after we vacated.

  • "Everything was as described."

One or two little things that need to be sorted maintenance wise, which Ian the owner, said he'd rectify that day. Being all on one level helped as we had two guests with mobility issues. Good facilities and in a good location for exp!oring both coast and dales. Weather was kind to us so having the hot tub was a bonus.

The cabin was very spacious, clean and had all the facilities you could want. The hot tub went down a treat especially for the kids. It was in a very central location. We especially enjoyed our visit to white scar caves in Ingleson. Definitely recommend and Ian was a great host. The hamper was a lovely surprise xx

Ian was on hand and what a great guy so helpfull and there when you needed him. We ran out of dishwashing tablets so I would recommend bringing enough, all the plates and cutlery were spotless as were the bedding and sheets.we had two barbeques while there so need enough charcoal with you. Great place and would definitely return, thank you.

  • "The Barbon was an excellent base to get away from current problems in the world and perfect for a family."

There is enough space for everyone to have their own escape but loads of shared area to have real quality family time. The great things about The Barbon are the hot tub which is really well maintained and spotless, the firepit and BBQ. We were blessed with the weather so were outside most of the time. The kitchen area and living area allow for lots of shared family time. Areas for improvement- the tv is internet tv only so you will need to sign into your own accounts to watch anything. It wasn’t a problem for us but might be for others. The inly other thing worth a mention is there is a glamping site next door which we didn’t know about so if you are expecting isolation this place has 11 shepherd huts next door. The Barbon and The next door accommodation are kept very separate, but they are there. The site is however situated in a rural area - 20 mins to the nearest supermarket so it’s probably worth arranging a food delivery rather than popping to the shop and a pub about a mile away which isn’t really walkable as the roads are very narrow. Also on our last day the water became Luke warm so showers were less than pleasant. A disappointing end to an otherwise perfect stay. We had a fabulous stay though and would highly recommend it.

  • "Well equipped and comfortable lodge in peaceful surroundings."

Helpful owner. Loved the hot tub, which we used every day despite variable weather! As we were the first people in it we think since lockdown, it could have done with a last minute clean before we arrived. The waste bins had not been properly cleaned and some cutlery and crockery was not clean. However, it was not a major problem.

Location is perfect, so much to see and do and the close by Kirby Lonsdale is just great. Accommodation had all we could’ve wanted, Ian the host was very welcoming and was on hand if we needed anything. Comfy beds and everything clean and in good condition. Most relaxing holiday we’ve had in a very long time.

About the location

KIRKBY LONSDALE

Kendal 9 miles.

An attractive market town, Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive independent shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th century buildings which still stand. The town was also a finalist for the High Street of the Year Award in 2016. This part of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin – his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil’s Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of year. When voting Kirkby Lonsdale as the ‘Best Place to Live in The North West’ in 2019, The Sunday Times commented it is “An unbeatable Lake District location, bags of community spirit and one of the cleanest high streets in the country".
