"Excellent support from the owner."
A really brilliantly appointed property so near to all the local amenities . However, was not so enamoured with the help we got initially from Sykes cottages. They made a mistake with our card details and it was difficult to speak to anyone to resolve the difficulty.
-
"It was cold in Hawes when we were staying and the property was cold."
There is parking, but if you have to open your car door all the way to get in or out the parking space is too small after cars park either side. The property is well situated and had everything we needed.
I am sorry you found the property cold Robert. If you had contacted me at the time, I could have amended the heating schedule to suit tour requirements. We are working on the parking situation with our neighbours Property Owner

"Nicely furnished, well equipped, clean cottage in a fabulous position for exploring Wensleydale."
There are lovely walks from the cottage and Hawes has enough shops that we didn’t need to use the car all week. We were provided with brilliant advice prior to our arrival ensuring that we were able to eat out somewhere lovely on the evening we arrived - a family birthday. Thank you Michael. We plan to return soon.
Thank you for your positive feedback Nicky. I'm so pleased you had a great time in Hawes and at Bridge House. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Property Owner
-
"Excellent cottage located near a bustling villiage with a fantastic butchers, bakers and creamery that needs to be visited."
Michael was quick to call me and update on the cottage so I could inform the rest of the group. Recommend highly
Thank you for your excellent feedback Christine. it's lovely to hear that you made use of the local facilities, and that your group enjoyed their stay in Bridge House. We hope to see you all again soon Property Owner

"Bridge House was a delightful place, really well situated in Hawes, and was really well equipped with everything we needed."
Mike, the owner, was very helpful when we had a couple of queries. The weather wasn't very warm and he put the heating on in the mornings and evenings which was great.
-
"Had problem with main oven when we tried to use it but this may have been down to us not operating correctly."
-
"We have just made our 6th visit to Bridge House in Hawes."
Hawes is a superb place to have a holiday and is perfect for investigating the surrounding Yorkshire countryside. There is plenty to see and do in Hawes and Bridge House is in exactly the right location; just a few minutes walk to the centre of town and close to the much photographed Gayle Beck. The cottage is very spacious, well maintained, has an en suite main bedroom and has all the facilities you could wish for. We also love the fact that it has a parking space right outside the front door.
Thank you as always, Michael, for you lovely feedback. We hope to see you for a seventh time in the near future! Property Owner

"The property was lovely in a good position for the town."
We were disappointed to have to clean the fridge surround of black mould and wipe down the shelves before putting our food in. It was also severely iced up at the back. The heating was a major problem coming on at 6am and going off at 10am not coming back on until 4pm and going off at 10 pm. During dark winter months I feel there should be more flexibility. Being on holiday and advertised as having centralheating we did not feel inclined to have to buy wood every day for a wood burner which was only in the dining room. And then have to clean it out every dayThe saving grace was the electric fire in the lounge. Which would seem like false economy as that was needed to boost the heat in the lounge as the radiators never felt to get really hot. Overall a lovely cottage but the way the central heating radiators were not terribly efficient maybe for us not for winter months.
I'm really sorry you had a problem with the heating recently. I wish you'd let me know at the time and I could have tweaked the timings to suit you. The existing timings work for most guests who are out when the heating is off. Property Owner

"This was our 5th visit to Hawes and Bridge House."
The town of Hawes is very attractive with interesting shops, restaurants, pubs and the famous Creamery. It is the ideal place for many enjoyable walks. Bridge House is much bigger than it looks from the outside. It has everything you could possibly want for a great holiday. It is Spacious, spotlessly clean, modern kitchen, Sky, WiFi and excellent heating which makes it warm and cosy. Parking is right outside in the courtyard for one car and free parking for a second car just 100 yards away. There is just one word to describe Bridge House – perfect!
-
"Bridge House is an ideal base for a holiday in the Yorkshire Dales."
It is extremely comfortable, well equipped and in an excellent location in the town being literally yards from the High Street where you are spoiled for choice of quality eating places. An excellent location for walks from the door, or just a short drive away, and for wonderful scenic drives. The dedicated parking space is a real bonus. Overall Bridge House and Hawes combine to be a superb package.
-
"A lovely house in the perfect location."
Lots of space, everything provided and a very helpful owner. I would only ask if it might be possible to make the outside seating area a bit nicer? Sitting next to the bins wasn’t great and meant we really missed our garden. Definitely would recommend though

"Very comfortable and close to the centre of Hawes, with plenty of cafes and places to eat."
WiFi did not work for three days of our week.
-
"Great cottage in a perfect position for the amenities of Hawes and surrounding countryside."
-
"Main potential problem is parking."
The courtyard is for 4 cars (4 houses). Currently one of the spaces is taken by a small car but when the property to which the car belongs is sold ( currently up for sale) it’s possible a more average or even large car may appear. If so parking could be impossible. The listing must make this clear. The neighbours were having work done and we had to move our car each day - no one’s fault just tricky as so little space we had to park in the town so they could manoeuvre a digger. It’s a great property but sadly the parking would stop us booking again.
I'm sorry you had a parking problem due to our neighbours outside property alterations Debra. I wasn't informed these were taking place during your stay. I understand they are enlarging their parking area, which ultimately should make parking easier. I believe we've only had a similar problem once before when the neighbours on the other side were having remedial work done on their chimney Property Owner

"We absolutely loved Hawes and the position of the property to the town and access to the moors and surrounding countryside was excellent."
The shops, restaurants, pubs and eating places were really good, we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay if we'd tried. Just a couple of niggles though, we couldn't use the freezer as the three drawers were frozen over and while we managed to open the top one we decided it best not to use it in case it froze shut again. Also even though the weather was sunny and warm most days come 4 o'clock it cooled down very quickly and after that apart from the sitting room which had an electric heater the rest of the house was extremely cold. It appears the central heating was on about 5am for an hour or so and again at about 4pm for an hour but the radiators were at best tepid so had no effect on the overall temperature at all and we couldn't find any controls to turn the heating up. Looking through the handbook to see if there were any controls we read that if we wanted to light the log burner in the dining room we could purchase logs etc in town but by then we were almost at our return date so we decided not to bother.
I'm sorry you had a couple of problems at the cottage Margaret both relating to 'cold' but in different ways. We did have the thermostat in the fridge/freezer replaced 6 months ago because it did tend to freeze up too quickly. It has been ok since then. I wonder if someone had turned it up recently but not turned it back down when they left? The heating I find more worrying because it is set at 21degrees to come on at 6am until 10am. then 4pm until 10pm. I will look into that Its a shame you didn't read the information handbook a little earlier because the log burner soon warms the room up. Property Owner

"Thoroughly enjoyed our week at Bridge House."
Great location in Hawes, very easy to walk to shops/cafes/pubs and also plenty of walks from the doorstep. The accommodation was very well equipped and comfortable. A lovely place to relax after long walks! Thank you!
-
"Excellent clean, cosy and well appointed cottage in great location."
Although it had everything you you could want to cook etc we ate out each night and location was moments away from a great choice of restaurants and Inns. We had 4 large motorbikes with us and the parking right outside the door was a bonus especially being in the town. Beds and bathrooms brilliant, good WiFi and even a smart TV with sky etc. couldn’t fault it. Wanted to move in !! Thank you to the host who contacted me ahead of stay to ask if there was any special requirements or anything needed. Would highly recommend to anyone. The photo on the web doesn’t do it justice.
-
"This is an excellent rental property."
We had no issues or problems with either the facility or the rental process. The unit was very well equipped, clean and nicely decorated. We felt vey much at home here. The location for exploring both the town and the surrounding area was superb!
Thank you for you positive feedback Patti. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Bridge House and obviously enjoyed the facilities the village had to offer together with the surrounding countryside. I hope you are able to return sometime. Property Owner

"This is probably the best cottage that we have stayed in, everything about it was first class."
We couldn't fault it in any shape or form. Great location, comfortable, well equipped and parking on site. Hope to have a return visit sometime soon.

"Well equipped and spacious."
Very comfortable and well situated in Hawes. Would happily return.
-
"Lovely cottage, fully renovated and well equipped with good personal parking space."
Nice kitchen, cosy living room with lovely Xmas decorations. Good Internet connection. Detailed and local information provided by the owner. Only a couple of minor quibbles: The shower temperature in the en-suite seemed too hot and we struggled to turn it down and the dvd player didn't play discs without skipping.
-
"This was a walking holiday, the cottage was ideally located and ideal size for us."
It was lovely and warm with ample room to dry wet walking gear. Totally pleased with all aspects of the holiday.

It’s a lovely cottage would go again definitely , only down side was the towels they was that hard they creaked like sandpaper ,I had brought two of my own , which I used , and the bedding not ironed clean but looked messy , the bottom sheet on single bed just full of creases , apart from that I would love to go back , it’s a lovely area , freezer needed a defrost ,

"Nice comfy cottage right in the centre of Hawes - great base from which to explore the Dales."
Thank you.

"Perfect all round!"
Excellent location walks right from the doorstep! Hawes is a beautiful village! The cottage was beautiful it had everything we needed 10 out of 10. We didn’t want to leave!
-
"We stayed for 3 nights in Bridge House and found it a brilliant place to stay."
It’s situated in a small courtyard by the bridge over Gayle Beck, so was perfect for easy access to Hawes amenities. The modern interior was spotlessly clean and had all you could wish for, including WiFi and Sky tv. The kitchen is very well equipped. The main bathroom is a good size with shower over the bath and lashings of hot water. The en-suite in the double bedroom has a spacious shower. The owner, Mike, gave us some very helpful tips beforehand and Christine the cleaner had left us milk and biscuits - very much appreciated! You couldn’t wish for a better place to stay.
-
"A fabulous cottage, in a fabulous location, with parking."
Could not be better. Will use this cottage again.
-
"This is an excellent holiday home."
The location is perfect, the parking very convenient, the facilities first class (especially Sky TV and very fast broadband) and everything is spotlessly clean. We have visited this property twice this year because it is outstanding and Hawes has everything you could wish for. The cleaner and owner are superb.
-
"The cottage was very comfortable and in a brilliant location."
-
"The washing machine was broken but there was a prompt reply from the cleaner."
The only downside was the rubber mats in the showers. They were badly stained and do need replacing. Otherwise the cottage was lovely and the weather was rather damp!
Many thanks for your feedback. I am pleased to confirm that there is now a new washing machine and new bathmats. Property Owner

"The cottage was in a great location very close to centre of Hawes with a carpark space."
The cottage was really fantastic. it had been fully refurbished to high standard. The bedrooms were large with 2 bathrooms . Living areas were large and new kitchen was very well equipped. Even had rucksack and thermos flasks. We will definitely be back - highly recommended!!

"We really enjoyed our stay at Bridge House."
The house is very clean and tidy with plenty of room for a family to have space. The lounge has two big three seater sofas and sky tv. The kitchen is well equipped and there was tea, coffee sugar , sauces etc in the cupboards. It is close to all amenities, with the nearest pub/restaurant within a two minute walk. We look forward to visiting again .
-
"Bridge House was in a wonderful location in the centre of Hawes."
The cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival and spacious. The kitchen was especially well equipped and there was an abundance of pots, pans and utensils. The cottage was deceptively spacious and there were 3 bathrooms. There was an added bonus of Sky TV and WiFi. The accommodation was faultless and the cottage was a great base for exploring the dales with quality walking all around. There was a designated parking space, which was welcome as Hawes is sometimes busy. Within walking distance were plenty of pubs and eateries. There were no negatives and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this cottage. David & Claire

"Bridge House is a well presented house in the outstanding town of Hawes."
It was very well equipped and we would recommend it to anyone. Shame the weather was not kind to us but in December you cannot guarantee what will happen.
-
"The cottage was beautiful, set in a wonderful location and very user friendly - heating etc."
There was lots of information about the local area. I would highly recommend this cottage!
-
"We can’t fault this cottage."
We found it perfectly clean and had everything we needed in it. Great location in the village. We all had a great time there.
-
"We both enjoyed our holiday very much and have spoken about returning there."
Unfortunately we decided to leave a little early because my husband wasn't well (he is 79), but obviously that had nothing to do with Bridge House, which was great. We loved Hawes, the surrounding countryside, the good places to eat, and the consistent good weather we were lucky enough to experience. We slept comfortably, and had no problems with the facilities (except perhaps there were so many pots, pans and dishes that it didn't leave much room to store the food we bought). The local convenience store is very expensive, and so we stocked up at Catterick. The people we met who own houses adjoining Bridge House were very friendly. What more can I say? There is only parking for one car, which could have been a problem as we had visitors while we were in Hawes, but in fact we managed quite well. I recommend the property highly, and the landlord telephoned us and was very helpful just before our holiday began. Oh - just one other downer - on arrival we couldn't retrieve the key from the keyholder near the front door. We had to wait for Christine (the cleaner) to help us, as there is a knack to it. Otherwise it was all very good, and couldn't have been much better.
-
"Great place to stay."
All finished to a very high standard

"Well equipped cottage in a fantastic location."

"A beautiful cottage and ideally situated."
The cottage has been refurbished to a very high standard and the owner couldn't of been any more helpful. Everything was provided for a perfect stay. Many thanks Mike.
-
"Lovely spacious cottage."
Only have a couple of small issues. We didn't find the cottage terribly warm despite lighting the wooden burning stove the heating Went off one evening and we couldn't get it back on. It was how ever particular cold. Personally found the large bed too soft for me. I wonder whether that could be a specific on the website or is that going a touch too far. Location fantastic lots of pots and pans etc which is a bonus when a dishwasher is supplied.

"This is a great holiday cottage, presented to a very high standard, and in a great location."

"Ideal position with the bonus of a parking spot outside the cottage."
-
"Bridge house is very comfortable with easy access to the amenities of hawes."
There are many walks from the doorstep which means you can leave your car safely parked outside. We found the Fountain hotel was great value for money for food & drink with very friendly staff. We really enjoyed our stay in Bridge house cottage.
-
"Beautiful cottage in the beautiful small town setting of Hawes."
Cottage was very clean, comfortable and had everything you could possible need for a relaxing holiday. Would thoroughly recommend this cottage and of course the wonderful service from Sykes.
-
"Spoke to the owner before our arrival and he was kind enough to give us information on the cottage and the surrounding area."
The cottage was very comfortable. The village of Hawes was in a lovely part of the dales with plenty of facilities for eating and drinking. The local people being very friendly and helpful.
-
"Just spent a week here."
Have stayed in many Dales cottages over the years. This is by far the best. Extremely well equiped, well presented and in excellent condition. Close to Hawes shops, 2 minute walk. In my opinion this is 5 star accommodation at it's best.
-
"Fantastic break, would definitely recommend."
The photos do not do the cottage justice.
-
"We all fell in love with the cottage, and with Hawes."
Absolutely lovely!
-
"Lovely to return to Bridge House after a couple of years and to find new owners who are very keen to keep Bridge House on the Sykes map."
Excellent communications with friendly and helpful owner who genuinely wanted to make sure that I enjoyed my visit - I did!
-
"Cottage was warm and very comfortable."
Great location right in the middle of Hawes. There is full Sky and the wifi is excellent. The owner was particularly helpful and attentive when arranging key pickup and was keen that we had a good break. The town is a great base to explore the Dales and the town has everything for a good holiday. After a good days walk I can particularly recommend the excellent pub grub of the Crown. It's a good idea to book meals out at weekends. Excellent.
-
"Only to say we enjoyed it very much"
-
"Fantastic location !"
Lots to see and do, for adults and children. Attended Wensleydale Show, Bolton Abbey, Skipton, Richmond, Wensleydale Cheese Factory, Gayle Mill etc. etc. etc. Great pubs/eating in village, all within easy walking distance. Recommend The Crown! Would have liked dressing table/seated area for the master bedroom. Moved dining chair and personal mirror to create our own !! :)
-
"This cottage is much bigger than it looks online and the images don't do it justice."
The fixtures and fittings in the bathrooms and kitchen are all brand new and the house is kept spotlessly clean. The only slight negative is that it says online that there is a terrace so I was expecting perhaps a small patio. What it means is that there is a table and chairs outside of the front door where you can sit next to the car parking space. This was a little disappointing to my daughter 7, but the close proximity of the local rather lovely play park and the large open spaces in the lounge and dining area more than made up for it.

About the location
HAWES
Leyburn 16 miles.
Hawes is a popular market town in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Standing between Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the town is an excellent centre for walking and touring Wensleydale and the adjoining dales of Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfedale and Chapel-le-Dale. Take a walk around the Hawes Town Trail, Millennium Walk, Pennine Way or along the River Ure, which is nearby. In 1998 Hawes was awarded the English Tourist Board Silver Award for the "Best Day Trip Out". Modern traffic has long replaced coaches and horse drawn wagons along its narrow streets, but market day (Tuesdays) in Hawes is as busy as ever, with a farmers’ auction attracting sheep farmers from all over the north of England. Traditional shops, cafés and inns now cater for a variety of Dales visitors as well as the local community. The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the animated Wallace and Grommit films, is now open to visitors so that they can see the famous cheese being made and sample the end product in a welcoming café. In the old station yard you will find the busy National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum. The Museum is home to the magnificent collection of Dales artefacts by the two great Dales historians and writers, Marie Hartley and Joan Ingilby.
Please note, Bridge House will only accept bookings of three nights or above.
