  • "Lovely property in quiet location – wonderful views and friendly neighbours."

It was great to be able to leave the car and do walks straight from the door. Beds comfortable and cottage very clean. There is a nice tearoom at Fairfield Mill a short stroll away and we enjoyed reading about the history of the old textile mill. Well placed for visiting the delightful town of Sedbergh, the Lakes and the Dales. Thank you for a relaxing holiday.

All you could need for a relaxing break close to the lakes. Fabulous walks from the door and great for dips in the lake (if you like that sort of thing!) We will definitely visit again.

  • "The cottage is located in a uniquely hidden spot on a stream and is close to an old textile mill."

It now houses a nice tearoom and there is work on display and for sale from all kinds of local artists. Contact with the owner went smoothly. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the cottage itself. The space downstairs was much smaller than we had imagined based on the photos. The kitchen was very small, especially the sink. And that was quite a struggle, because there was no dishwasher. We traveled with two people and two average sized dogs, it was too small for us. There was also no dining area, just a fold-out table with stools, but there was no place to put it anywhere normally. We also found the house smelling musty everywhere, of damp and mold. We immediately bought scented sticks, but that didn't really help. At a glance it was clean, but the location and age of the house require better ventilation. That smell also gets into the curtains and other upholstery. And finally: the owner indicates that the access road is unsuitable for large cars, but even with a normal size car you must be an experienced driver. It is really very narrow and you cannot afford a small steering error. All in all, we only stayed 3 nights, even though we had booked for a week. We had to go back south for an appointment, and decided to rent another location for the rest of the week.

The directions we were sent were very helpful (and essential) and the guides to the local area in the house allowed us to make the most of our stay. We loved Sedbergh and walked in and out most days. There are loads of great walks nearby and further afield too. We’ll definitely be back!

  • "A comfortable, compact property which is ideal for one or two people."

The location is lovely - lots of walking from the door, and the sound of the river outside masks any noise from the roads. The owners were very helpful with detailed instructions about parking (easy enough with a small car) and a welcome supply of brownies, milk and bread on arrival. A couple of small niggles - the kitchen door doesn't shut properly, for example - but nothing to spoil the stay. Hope to be back one day.

The cottage was cosy with a wood burning stove and well equipped. The bedrooms were very spacious and the beds comfortable. The hosts were easy to communicate with and responded quickly when we had a query. We imagine staying there in the summer would be really special as the location is unique with many lovely views, walks and nearby places to visit. Farfield Mill was amazing. Although parking is tight the neighbours were really helpful.

Really peaceful and fabulous local scenery and walks in the dales, and easy reach to local pretty villages, shops, Farfield Mill arts & crafts and cafe literally on the doorstep, and not far to The Lakes for day trips. Very well equipped kitchen and all facilities. Lounge with big sofas and log burner, good TV and wifi - really roomy yet cosy. Very comfy beds (had such good sleeps) with pretty fresh linen, and great shower/ bath. Everything so clean and to a really great standard. Thank you to owners, Amy and Joe, for the warm welcome, great info about the cottage and surroundings and the lovely welcome pack of goodies and fresh flowers too. We love the decor, which is fresh, practical but oh so cute and cleverly furnished. Modern luxuries blended with cottage quirkiness. Such an inviting feel. We have two big dogs and had plenty of room for all of us; plus there’s a cute little enclosed garden which is perfect for sitting out and gazing over to the magical fells. About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), set at the foot of the dramatic and wild Howgill Fells, is an ancient market town in northern Dentdale. Sedbergh is situated just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has an olde worlde atmosphere. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
