  • "Thank you we had a lovely stay, and we were very sad to leave."

We really appreciated the fresh bread, shortbread and other thoughtful additions, especially after a long journey. The kitchen was well equipped, the dishwasher I wanted to take home with me. We made use of the radio and telly in the bedroom. I read one of the books that were supplied on a rainy day, and my son appreciated the dvd collection and was introduced to ‘back to the future’. WiFi wasn’t the best, and we had a bit of teen moaning. The Cells are the perfect base, with parking right outside, a few minutes into town or a few minutes the opposite direction and you are on the Yorkshire Dales. Lovely and peaceful we had a lovely holiday thank you Clare, Barry and Daniel

Hi Barry Thank you for your lovely feed back, your "teen moaning" brought a smile, and highlighted something we need to amend. We opened another apartment in the building in July. Your comments made me realise that; when the building is fully booked, the modem may not be able to cope with the amount of devices. When we check the internet, there is no one else in the building and works perfectly. Without your comments we would be unaware. Thank your screen loving teen for us Property Owner

The only negative was the bathroom door which needs adjusting to stop it sticking. The fridge is listed as a fridge freezer but in reality it's a small fridge with an ice box .

Kept cool in hot weather and was close to a wide range of places to visit. Lots of antiques and bric a brac at Lords Salvage Yard in the village and in Settle to the east. 30 mins to Lake Windermere for a day out. Country Harvest shop on the west side of the village for nice food and gifts to take home. Chip shop only opens Thursday to Sunday but plenty of other places to eat close by. Final trip was to Carnforth to visit the railway station used to film “Brief Encounter”. Enjoyed our stay.

The outside space was very welcome especially as we stayed during the heatwave. The owner, Fiona, couldn't do enough to ensure our stay was a positive one, nothing was too much trouble. The village of Ingleton is very quaint and calm and the perfect base for exploring the lovely walks in the area, and an ideal base for completing the 3 peaks. There are plenty of places for food and drink, i would recommend the three horse shoes for good quality , no frills food, and the Old Post Office, or OPO ,micro bar was a lovely place to enjoy a couple of drinks. The Wheatsheaf Inn is only a couple of hundred yards away and provides good food and drinks. There are other eating places a little further away but all recommended. The local pottery produces fine artistic and practical pieces that won't break the bank and, if the weather is a little inclement, I can thoroughly recommend a wander round Lords Antiques store on the main road. With the Ingleton Waterfall Trail, White Scar Caves, Ribblehead Viaduct all within a few miles and a short car journey to the Wensleydale Creamery at Hawes there is plenty to see and do even in a short visit. The Cells is a very cosy home, we visited in mid September and never had to use any heating at all. If you should have any problems Fiona and Phill are just a phone call or text message away.

We really enjoyed it again and the bottle of wine was a nice surprise. A perfect base for exploring the surrounding area either on foot or using the excellent bus service less than 10 minutes walk away. The Cells is ideal as it is so handy for the village pubs, restaurants and shops, but just nicely away from the hussle and bustle. We were even blessed with bright and sunny weather for our October half term week as well. One one website I have seen some maniac ranting about noise from a cockerel - even to the extent of cutting a holiday short! Some people just love to complain. The bedrooms are triple glazed and ear plugs are even provided - not that we have ever felt the need to use them - although with my wife's snoring I could have been tempted! Soncerely I can say that the cockerel never woke us up once and one morning when I had heard him (albeit very faintly) I had to draw my wife's attention to it three times before she actually heard him. The Cells is a lovely place to stay and please, please, please don't let the maniacal ravings regarding the cockerel that I have seen left in feedback by one nut-job put you off. I fully expect to be booking into the Cells again soon.

  • "Our 4-night stay was unfortunately cut short and ruined by the neighbouring property’s cockerel which began crowing at 2am the first night and 3am the second night of our stay."

The crow was extremely loud and incessantly crowing throughout the very early hours through until the morning, approximately every 10 seconds or less. This meant that we had no sleep, so were exhausted and frustrated, and were therefore unable to go out and enjoy our holiday as planned. It was on New Year’s Eve at 5am (the 2nd morning into our 4-night stay) where we decided we simply could not and should not have to put up with the noise, so packed up and drove 4.5 hours home. The owners are aware of the noise issue, as they left earplugs with a sign about the cockerel on the bedside tables. These were insufficient in blocking out the noise. There was no prior, explicit warning about the cockerel waking at 2/3am. There was merely a note on the Sykes Cottages advert page stating we ‘may hear animal noises’. This was an understatement, and we feel did not properly warn us of a loud cockerel practically outside the bedroom window. Moreover, we have stayed on working farms before and are used to the expected farm animal noise, but at a reasonable hour after sunrise – certainly not constantly from 2am. We believe the owners of this property seriously need to address this noise disturbance as it is likely an environmental health issue, and will not be surprised if other paying customers expecting a peaceful holiday find this to be a problem. We were only refunded less than half of what we paid to stay here, which was disappointing. Not only was our New Year’s Eve holiday ruined, but we felt undercompensated for our disappointing experience. It was not the peaceful, pleasant holiday and start to the New Year we had so hoped for, especially after a very difficult year. It’s such a shame, as the property itself is lovely and well-equipped, but is overshadowed by a terribly loud noise disturbance. Avoid staying here if you expect a good night’s sleep.

I am sorry that it has taken a while for me to respond, however I did not want to reply with a generic response. We have put a lot of work into making the property lovely for holidays and it upsets me that you had a problematic experience. The property opened in August and you have been the first to have had these overnight noises. Whenever we have stayed the noises form the farm have not been that loud and curable with earplugs, (I am a light sleeper) many visitors have enjoyed the country ambience. The noise all night may have been a rarity, However I do not want to take that chance with guests’ holidays in the future. As I do not want to harm any animals or upset any local framers, we have decided to install secondary glazing to the bedrooms in The Cells. This should reduce any farm noises to a minimum. Kind regards and hope you have a better 2019 Phill and Fiona Burton Property Owner
