  • "The stay was amazing and the property is beautiful, we were there for a wedding ..."

The stay was amazing and the property is beautiful, we were there for a wedding and therefore the only downside for us was the hot water system, on the second day the hot water tank ran out after one bath (which was half way full) we had to use the boost system in which we waited 2 hours for the hot water to return and during my sister having a short shower the hot water had once again ran out As a result of this- we had to use kettle water mixed with cold to wash the children in bath Again we boosted the water but unfortunately we had no hot water until the next morning- which meant all of us had to get up at 5am and use the showers to wash our hairs etc- even though we loved our stay here- this problem really affected the wedding and made us late for the make up and hair that we was supposed to attend from 630 am due to the waiting for the hot water system In tried to report the issue- I requested a call back in which I wasn’t able to get the the phone on time before it rang off- when I tried to ring back it was after closing time and therefore I reported it too the emergency line in which the lady on the phone was very unhelpful and we were just told that if you’ve used all the hot water then there’s nothing that could be done about it Other than that the facilities in the house were amazing, beds were comfortable and the view is beautiful through the patio windows Would definitely recommend staying here but make sure you read about the water system carefully so it can be used effectively to avoid the same situation

Thank you for your review and recommendation. We’re sorry to hear of the hot water issues but unfortunately we have no gas in the village so the house is entirely electric and it simply isn’t possible to power a combi-boiler instant hot water system on electric. Hence the hot water tank. The hot water is heated in a large 250 litre tank which generally copes very well with multiple showers being run concurrently multiple times per day. We do explain the limitations of the hot water in the welcome folder and how to use the system most effectively when there is a house full of guests all wanting to use the bathrooms at once. This should largely eliminate issues like this. Lovely to hear you enjoyed everything else about the house. Property Owner

Where you’ll be staying

HURST GREEN

Stonyhurst 1.3 miles; Ribchester 3.6 miles; Clitheroe 5.3 miles.

Hurst Green is a small village in the Ribble Valley district of Lancashire, England, connected in its history to the Jesuit school, Stonyhurst College. The village is 5 miles (8 km) from Longridge and 4 miles (6 km) from Clitheroe, and is close to the River Ribble, near its junction with the River Hodder. Many areas in the UK claim to have inspired J.R.R Tolkien's creation of middle earth but the author certainly spent a lot of his time at Stonyhurst College working on The Lord of the Rings during the Second World War. Many have found connections with this landscape around the college and the 5.5 mile Tolkien Trail explores the Ribble Valley that may have inspired him. Walk in the footsteps of author J.R.R. Tolkien who regularly stayed at Stonyhurst College in the Ribble Valley. J.R.R. Tolkien was renowned for his love of nature and wooded landscapes and the countryside around Stonyhurst is richly beautiful. A number of names which occur in 'The Lord of The Rings' are similar to those found locally including Shire Lane (in Hurst Green) and River Shirebourn.
