"This was the perfect stay for a little get away."
Check in was easy and the cottage was lovely and cosy. It has all of the essentials needed for a break away.
Late checkout was even given which we were so grateful for, it made the last day of our stay much more relaxed so thank you so much!

"Although the cottage was lovely it is in need of attention to detail."
The living room lamp shade was covered in cobwebs and dust. Kitchen cupboard doors same and microwave and the cooker need cleaned. Beautiful cobbles outside the door need a good weeding. These points let down your cottage.

"My second visit to Pine Cottage."
A super base for exploring the Howgills and surrounding area. To me the cottage feels gently lived in which makes it really homely. The light in early September was fabulous, especially upstairs. Warm, comfortable and unfussy. No problems with unloading (you can easily find the pull over spot on Googlemaps photos) and no problem finding on-street parking for the duration of my stay. The smoke alarm is of necessity sensitive so don’t burn the toast! Would highly recommend as a getaway pad.

"It was a lovely cottage, slightly small and more suitable for a couple (we were a father and son on a walking holiday) though that is clear in the advert."
It was nice that some basics (milk, tea, coffee, biscuits) were provided on arrival. The cottage's position in the centre of Sedbergh was a real plus. We were able to park on the road at the back of the cottage but I was impressed the owners had provided a car park pass just in case. "We arrived unaware that the central heating was out of order."
Electric heaters had been supplied but we felt these were insufficient. There were no matches or fire lighters provided so we were unable to light the fire the first evening.
The lack of sufficient heat meant additional expense for us as we needed to purchase more log burner supplies.
I spoke with the owner who apologised as she was meant to inform us about the heating issues prior to our arrival. I can only suggest that a more substantial supply of logs etc be provided while the heating remains out of order.
We're really very sorry for the inconvenience; the heating had been intermittent. Many apologies. Please do contact us as soon as there is a problem, as we would have come round straight away to help you get the place warm and help with the fire. There were heaters in the property in case and an additional upstairs that wasn't used. The log store had also been left open for you to help yourselves.

"Pine cottage is a delightful little holiday getaway in a lovely location, to visit/walk in this amazing countryside."
It is set around a small cobbled courtyard, approached by a walkway off the main street (need to bump car onto pavement to unload, but that's no problem, and park under 5 minutes walk away).
The cottage was very clean and comfortable, tastefully decorated and furnished (loved the painting of the cows face on the landing) and well equipped and there's bags of hot water for showers etc.
The first two floors have central heating and the ground floor has under floor heating which takes the chill off of the flag stone floor, but the wood burning stove, easy to light and clean, makes it as warm as toast in the evenings (logs from local Spar or the hardware shop opposite the information centre)
Sedbergh is a smashing little town, with friendly people, craft shops and galleries and lots of nice eateries. The Red Lion pub, very friendly, food great and reasonably priced and a great little bar, The Thirsty Rambler, has opened about 10 steps away, highly recommended.
As the walkway to the cottage opens on to the main street, if you have a lively dog that does its own thing, best to keep on a lead when leaving the cottage. Luckily ours sticks to us like Velcro.
We were a bit confused about the rubbish bins and recycling, but did our best to follow the instructions in the information pack.
A couple of things we felt might enhance visitors stay would be a small radio for news/music (as the TV has Netflix etc and us 'oldies' are Luddites with technology), a small washing up bowl (saves on hot water) and a visitors book for visitors to sign and add comments).
Next time we make the drive from London to Westmoreland, we would definitely consider staying at Pine cottage. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Thank you for your lovely review. We're glad that you had a great stay and enjoyed the cottage. Thank you also for the tips for improvements -great ideas. Hannah

"Very cosy and clean cottage for 2, would be very tight for 3."
Beautifully furnished and decorated. Stairs quite narrow and steep, not a problem for us but beware 27 stairs to toilet/bathroom on top floor. Kitchen quite basic (note no dishwasher, not a problem for us) - enough pots and pans etc but no basic condiments like salt and pepper, or kitchen roll, tin foil etc that we've had in other cottages. Pint of milk and pack of biscuits on arrival were appreciated. Wifi good on lower floors but patchy on top floor. Parking permit for Joss Lane car park was useful as we couldn't always get parked on nearby roads - thanks for getting a new one to us so quickly when we noticed the one in the cottage had expired. Spar shop and greengrocers both 5 minutes walk away were very handy. Great location for walking but shame there's no daily bus service from Sedbergh.

It had everything we needed for our 3 night stay with a dog and is very clean and kept to an excellent standard. Cooking facilities were good and simple to use. We parked on Highfield Road for free during our stay and managed to get parked up ok each day on returning to the cottage. I would recommend pulling up to the cottage to unload and re-load the car at beginning and end of your stay. We stayed here at Christmas and to our delight there were 2 stockings hanging by the fire containing gifts for us. There was also mulled wine and mince pies.
Well equipped kitchen, we cooked a full Christmas dinner and had everything we needed.
Really comfortable bed and good water pressure for filling a deep bath or using shower.
The lounge and kitchen are quite small so having a space under stairs was good for dumping hiking kit and dog bed. Could do with an inside doormat to wipe wet shoes.

"I had a lovely stay at Pine Cottage."
The cottage has all the facilities you need. The bed in the main room was very comfortable and the bedroom decoration was light and fresh. The shower pressure was just perfect and there were lots of towels available. I had great weather so didn’t get to utilise the fire, but you have everything you need if you want the fire on. The kitchen has all the necessities, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, oven, plates, mugs, cutlery etc. There is a nice selection of books available in the living room and the high street has a borrow a book service too. The cottage is suitable for a dog, but as downstairs is quite snug I’d say a medium dog. You’d need to be careful letting the dog out in the courtyard as the alley way leads directly to the high street so they could make a run for it! There is a field behind the high street which is great for letting a dog off for a run around. To find the cottage is quite simple, once you are in the main high street, look for the pink house and there is a white semi circle painted on the ground where you can quickly park up and unload. To the left of the pink house is a little alley way which leads to a small court yard and the cottage is on your left. There is a parking permit in the house for Joss Lane just up the road which is really handy. If you’re looking to eat locally, the Dalesman isn’t suitable for dogs but the Black Bull and Red Lion is, and the shops allow you to take a dog in. I had two lovely meals in the Red Lion. Delicious food, reasonably priced and Hannah’s customer service can’t be faulted. The Haddock Paddock is a good chip shop, but you might need to plan when you’re going as they only open for two hours in the evening. The cottage is about 20-25 minutes from Kendal and 40-45 minutes from Ambleside. There are buses that run to Kendal and a good local taxi service is On Time Taxis. All in all, I had a lovely stay and would be back again in a heartbeat.

"We had a fantastic 5 night stay in Pine Cottage."
It was nicely furnished, extremely clean and had nearly everything you would need for a short break away from home. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything apart from a washing machine, but that shouldn’t be a problem for a short holiday. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a lovely long bath which was great for easing aches and pains after days out walking the many country walks on offer. A shelf below the bathroom mirror would be useful for makeup, jewellery, spectacles etc. The underfloor heating was a welcome bonus and there was separate heating for the upstairs, so we didn’t need to use the log burner although it was very tempting.
The information pack provided by the owners was very good and the parking permit came in useful as we parked our car in the Joss Lane car park.
There are a few pubs, eateries and takeaway’s near to the cottage but they are not all open every day, so this needs to be taken into account when planning. There is also a Spar not far from the property if you want to cook something yourself or get some supplies.
Sedbergh is a lovely village and it’s also a good base for visiting Kendal, Hawes and other tourist attractions in the area.
We would definitely recommend Pine Cottage for a short break

"Pine cottage is a delightful small but comfortable cottage in the centre of Sedbergh ."
The access on foot from the town centre is literally two minutes and the range of good pubs, restaurants and a few shops make it an excellent place to stay. There are plenty of good walks from the door, or a little further afield in this beautiful part of south Lakeland and the Yorkshire Dales. The cottage was very clean, it has all basic equipment you need, and the beds are very comfortable. The decor and furnishings are tasteful and good quality, while a wood burner in the sitting room makes it cosy on cooler days. Parking is easy in adjoining streets or in the car parks where the owners have provided a parking permit. The Wi-Fi in the cottage is good. The addition of a microwave would enhance the facilities in the kitchen, as there is only a cooker, hob and undercounter fridge provided, but two people can easily manage to self cater or eat out in the many cafes and pubs in the locality. To find the cottage be sure to look for the passage next to the pink house on the High Street, where the pavement is wide enough and has a white line semi-circle to pull your car on, in order to off-load your luggage. We enjoyed our stay in Pine Cottage and would be happy to return on future occasions to stay in this cosy and interesting traditional cottage.

Excellent base for visiting the Lakes, and found Sedbergh a lovely place too! Couple of things stand out - firstly the communication with the owner was fantastic. We were sent a photo of where to find Pine Cottage, as it can be tricky to find. I get why others had difficulty, my top tip would be when you see the pink house, park on the pavement right outside it and unpack the car there - the Cottage is up the lane! The Cottage itself was immaculate and a very comfortable place to stay. We had read the previous reviews and would like to point out that the owners have addressed every single comment made. It now has blinds, a pizza cutter, new towels - they really do act on the feedback they receive. There is also a smart Tv with Freesat and a hairdryer in the bedroom drawer unit - and the shower is great!! We parked in the Joss Lane car park each night, as the owners have paid for a permit you can use, very thoughtful, as street parking is at a premium in the village. It was a 3 minute walk along the street, and a lovely walk past the shops. (If you’re looking for a packed lunch ‘On a Roll’ does delicious baguettes!)!We didn’t light he fire, as our visit was during the great spell of weather, but we wanted to, just to experience the log fire going. Next time! This was a fab base for our holiday, we would happily have stayed longer. Thank you, Hannah and Barney!

"Pine cottage is really quaint, situated in a little courtyard shared with 3 other cottages."
There is no gate so not suitable to be able to let the dog out on his own as very close to the road. I could see how previous people would have had difficulty finding it but thankfully the owner contacted us beforehand with clear directions and a photograph so we couldn’t have missed it. She was really helpful throughout our stay and answered messages straight away. The cottage was lovely and clean, nicely decorated and the bed was sooooo comfortable. Just a couple of issues we experienced which could be easily rectified and are the same issues mentioned in a previous review, cold tap in the bathroom is loose, no loo brush and no privacy on the landing window. There were no kitchen scissors or pizza cutter which would have been useful. We were also a bit disappointed that the towels although they had obviously been cleaned they still had stains on them which is little off putting. Having said that we would stay here again and Sedbergh is a lovely little village full of olde world charm.

Difficult to find. The instructions make sense only after you have found it, some three times round the block! Just some small niggles that would not take long to sort, which would make a difference. There are no nets on key stair windows although there are some hooks, so no privacy getting to bathroom or heading downstairs. Cold tap loose in bathroom and ballcock issue means flush goes on forever wasting so much water unless you push handle back to stop it. No loo brush.
Situated close to all shops and pubs, two mins walk to Spa supermarket. Loads of local walks both easy and more challenging. We had a great time.

The cottage was gorgeous and sedbergh was lovely. We would recommend. We only had 2 little improvements 1) the instructions to find the cottage are hopeless. We had to park up and walk around to find it. A little plan with a cross would be helpful as would knowing that the courtyard name doesn’t feature on google maps and knowing that it is not visible from the Main Street. 2) the ground floor is very chilly and the instructions to turn on the underfloor heating were not clear so we couldn’t get it to work.
Thank you for your comments, we're really pleased you enjoyed the cottage. We will improve the instructions for future guests, many thanks for the constructive feedback.
