"We had a lovely stay at Jam Pot Cottage."
The rear aspect of the property is beautiful. A small but pretty garden and wonderful views from the kitchen window, of the hills beyond. The front aspect however was disappointing. The image and information on the website give no indication that the property is directly on a busy main road with a pizza take away opposite. Upstairs is spacious with comfortable beds. A small landing between the 3rd and 4th floors provides an ideal place to chill out on the easy chair with views over the hills.
The Dog Inn ( 2 mins down the road) provided us with an enjoyable meal in comfortable surroundings and Suki my dog enjoyed the doggy dinner !!
All in all a relaxed stay. The beautiful weather helped - we were lucky.

"We have just spent a lovely 5 days at Jam Pot Cottage which is in a great location and only 2mins walk away from the friendly pub with great views at the back."
Having said that unfortunately the cottage isn't really for tall people as I'm 5ft 8" and Husband 6ft 2" and our feet hung over end of bed (I also think a larger duvet wud be better) the toilet is very low and so is the sofa which was a bit flat.... we wer looking forward to a few games of pool in basement (which is a brilliant touch by the way) but unfortunately only managed 2 as there are beams and husband was walking round hunched and ended up with backache which was a shame.
Cleanliness was ok apart from kitchen sides, table n fireplace which wer all tacky to the touch. Quaint little garden at the rear which was lovely to sit in and admire the gorgeous views.....overall we had a lovely holiday.
Thank you for your feedback. Sadly we can’t change the height of the ceiling. The tacky feel to the work top is due to the wood oil on the solid wood surface. I will have a word with the cleaner about the table.

"We really like the cottage and it was great for what we needed."
We appreciated the coffee, tea, milk and biscuits. The rooms were bigger than expected, nicely decorated and with lovely original features.
There was a bit of a damp smell in the cottage when we first arrived, but this seemed to only last the first night so it maybe the cottage just needed a bit of ventilation/heating. Some of the towels smelt of damp too, but not all of them. The bathroom felt in need of an upgrade: the shower heads and towel radiator are both rusting, the toilet is surprisingly low and the light was very dark (we had to put torches on when getting ready for bed!). None of these things would stop us booking again, because the space was great.
Anyone with a dog should know that the backdoor does not open straight into the little garden but onto a communal path to a few gardens some of which had their gates open so if you have an energetic pup like ours they need to be taken on the lead for a few steps. It's not far and the views from the backdoor are beautiful.
All in all we really enjoyed our stay and would happily book again. The location is great for Longridge and exploring the local area.
Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, if we have guests in straight after each other we don’t have time to air the property and as you are aware it has been very wet recently. The cellar is not tanked and is damp. I apologise for the damp smelling towels, that should not happen. If you had contacted us while you were there we would have sorted the light bulb in the bathroom. We are glad you enjoyed your stay overall.

"Nice cottage in need of an make over, sofas and bed very uncomfortable, the description fails to point out that the lovely garden isn’t attached to the house so we couldn’t just let our dog out the back door we had to put its lead on as cars drove past the rear of the property, and the basement I would imagine is illegal there are bars on the windows with only one point of egress and access, if there was a fire upstairs you would be trapped."
Overall it’s a great location and a lovely layout but in need of some work.
We are totally unaware of any cars driving past the back of the house and never seen or heard of this. We will check with the neighbours. We have up to date fire risk and safety reports required for insurance and registration with Sykes, NOTE: the suggestion that the cellar room is illegal is not true and misleading. We are sorry you found the bed and sofa uncomfortable, a comfortable bed is very subjective and we have other reviews who say the opposite. We wish you well for your future holidays and hope you find somewhere more suitable.

Upon arrival there was laundry bags over flowing with dirty washing all over the floor. Rubbish in bins. Sugar everywhere? Damp smell?
We arrived minutes after your arrival to apologise and take away the washing. Came later with a brand new towels and there was no mention of any issues. You had our number to contact us. We were also disappointed in the way you left the property. Dog wee stain on lounge carpet and very nasty grooves in the interior door made by your dog. "We had a lovely few days at Jam Pot Cottage."
The cottage is comfortable and was surprisingly spacious for the two of us. The main bedroom is a good size with a comfortable bed, although, as an adult, I wouln't have wanted to use the second bedroom, due to the low ceilings. The cottage is well equipped - we ate in a couple of times and found everything we needed. The snooker table in the basement was a bonus. It's in a good position in Longridge, close to shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs. The town is well provided with supermarkets. The closest pub is on the same road as the cottage. It's a nicely refurbished pub which does good food, but when we were there was not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. There's lots to visit in the area. The Forest of Bowland is beautiful and in mid May very quiet. Ribchester is the nearest next town, with Roman remains and in a lovely position on the Ribble. I must just put in a word for the Blackburn Cathedral - a lovely church. I would recommend this cottage and this less well-known corner of Lancashire.
Thank you for your positive helpful feedback

"Overall the property was lovely, great location just up the road from town and really lovely decor."
Owner kindly left us enough for 4 cups of tea, coffee and one dog treat - perhaps it would have been a nice touch to leave enough tea and coffee for the entire stay? Washing machine in basement which we didn’t use but may come in handy for some.
Comfortably would sleep a family with older children, but the upstairs attic bedroom had very low ceilings - as a fairly tall group of couples, we couldn’t actually stand up (smallest of us being 5”8) so that was awkward when getting ready for the day. Steep stairs & out of the way room would make this more suitable for older children, but very out the way & you can’t hear anything from the downstairs bedroom.
One very clean & tidy bathroom, and the shower was lovely. Also bath available if this is of interest to some after a long walk.
However, we did find it slightly deceiving from photos! The sofas (despite not allowing dogs on them, totally understandable & we wouldn’t do this at home) still had a cover of an old pair of curtains on them, which weren’t very in keeping or comfortable. The twin beds were also a very firm mattress on which you could feel the springs. Not a total deal breaker but I’d struggle sleeping on them more than 3 nights!
Kitchen facilities were limited despite being self catering, and fees for removing items meant nothing was left behind in terms of oil or seasonings - something I’d imagine most guests buy then are forced to throw away. Perhaps this is a Sykes requirement rather than the properties, but it felt wasteful as we were unable to take food home with us due to living in the south west. Plenty of cutlery, plates, glasses & bowls which came in handy as we like to cook. Did need to wash a fair few of them thoroughly before hand as they were dusty / some residue on glasses.
I would also hesitate to class this as dog friendly. The garden has a communal path between the house and the garden, which is gated, so you wouldn’t be able to let the dog out quickly & they need to be monitored quite heavily due to low walls (an easy escape into next doors garden!).
Very steep stairs also meant it would be impractical for an older clientele, and we had to carry the dog down to the basement each time as we were worried about her on the steep wooden stairs with gaps in.
The price was fair as a fairly last minute booking, but the property was much smaller - especially the garden - than the pictures had lead us to believe. Overall we may stay again, but probably would arrange alternative care for our dog & would come with shorter friends :)
We consider all feedback and see how we can make improvements. The feedback you have given does not reflect the majority. We hope you have more success in the future with other properties.

"We thought Jam Pot cottage was charming."
It is obviously a very old property, but the modernisation has been done nicely, without spoiling the character of the building.
The sitting room is surprisingly large, but cosy, with a little log-burner.
The bedrooms are fine, with nice bed linen and a comfortable bed (we only used the double room). The false wall arrangement seems a little odd; it is a rather cramped storage area with a hanging rail and a large open platform upon which to store clothes, but it worked ok. The extra room, which we called the dressing room, was very useful.
Everything in the bathroom worked as it should, but be warned, the bath is shorter than normal to fit the space, which was marvellous for under 5’ tall me, but not for my tall husband.
The kitchen is quite well-equipped with a lovely big table. The coffee pod machine is a nice extra, although we stuck to the aged cafetière. As we always use loose tea at home we appreciated the tea pot, but there is no strainer or cosy (although we brought our own since rental cottages never seem to have the latter).
To make it even better the kitchen could do with a few decent knives (even a good-sized cook’s knife and a paring knife) rather than just the big, blunt carving knife, boning knife and bread knife. Although the crockery was generally perfectly fine, the mugs seem to be permanently stained and look a bit off-putting. A quick review of what’s currently provided would seem to be in order (Smaller mixing bowl, a small milk jug, butter dish, toast rack etc would all be welcome).
We didn’t use the basement except to do a quick wash in the machine down there, but we thought it would be a useful space if families with older children were staying.
The garden was fine. Although it was October when we stayed it was warm enough to sit outside sometimes with a cup of coffee and admire the view, which is lovely.
All in all we had a great stay. Longridge is a great base for walks and the little town (or big village?) has everything we could want. It was great to be in such a welcoming place. We would particularly recommend the Station Cafe for breakfast or lunch, whilst Booths is fantastic for good quality food and drink. The Dog Inn is just yards from the cottage; it is friendly and does good food.

Lovely idea of dogs bowl and treat was appreciated. Also arrived to milk, tea bags and biscuits which was great! Not far from the fells and good base for visiting different places. Pool table in basement was a good addition when the weather is not so good. Only downside was the parking which is 1st come 1st served and the garden was separated from the house by a communal pathway which we were unaware of. Certainly didn't spoil our stay though.
