  • "This was our second visit to Barnowl Cottage."

It’s very peaceful and lots of wildlife. There are a family of barn owls in the building opposite the cottage, and they fly out every evening about 8.30pm. Great site to see. The cottage is very comfortable and I’m glad that the settee and two chairs have been improved, as last year it was not very comfortable to sit on. The improvement makes all the difference. Fishing was good, husband caught lots of carp, biggest 15lbs but there are bigger in the pond. Also silver fish and barbel. Mabelthorpe is only a 20 minute drive, a good old fashioned seaside town. We are looking forward to staying next year. Richard, the owner, is extremely friendly and helpful. Great place.

Many thanks for your feedback Barbara, we look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

  • "This property was very dusty and cobwebby even on the furniture (TV Table to wall)."

The Furniture and fittings were very old and shabby. The kitchen units were scratched and very dated along with very poor standard of crockery. Scratchy thin old towels were provided. Two out of date coffee sachets and two yellowed Tea bags were all that was provided in the welcome tray with a loaf of local plum bread ( which was nice!) It was as if the bare minimum had been provided for visitors. But worst of all was the Electric fence around the pond, hidden in the grass under the hedge, our Dog was electrocuted whilst being walked on the long lead at 10pm on the first night. Even other residents heard the horrible scream from 200 yards away! No warning signs or advice from the owners who were onsite .Imagine a small child. We reported this to Sykes the next day but there was no response from the owners other than an offer to come in and clean. No apology or visit re the Electric fence!. The task of dusting and de-cobwebbing would have been a long task and therefore rejected by us Obviously not enough care was considered prior to our arrival. We could not stay in the Barn further as the Musty smell lingered This was our second Sykes Holiday of the year previously staying in Oaks 1 in Northumberland which was amazing for the same cost. Such a disappointment we decided to return home on a 4 hour drive on the Monday having only managed 2 nights out of 7.We would not consider ourselves as Negative people but we did not expect lower standards from our home address on a Sykes holiday. On a positive note the Bedding was fresh and the surroundings were peaceful. We have lodged a formal complaint with Sykes as we believe this property is not up to the standard that we have experienced previously.

  • "Lovely cottage, although the settee and two chairs, have seen better days."

Well designed with the spiral stairs. Bed very comfortable. Peaceful setting, with only the sound of sheep and cows, and lots of small birds. Husband enjoyed the fishing. Lost count of the amount of carp that he caught, ranging from 6-14lb, and also 2 barbel, 5 and 6lb. The barn owls fly out about 9pm which is a lovely sight to see. Richard was very nice and good to talk to. The hospitality was great, the plum bread was delicious, and thank you for the milk, tea and coffee. All in all, a very peaceful week, in lovely surroundings, very rural. Highly recommended.

Many thanks for the feedback, always appreciated. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely week here which went to quickly."

Lovely lake for fishing if you're a fisherman or a lovely walk instead. The cottage has all you need for a comfortable stay. Lovely warm rooms. Love the quirky stairs but not really suitable for older people. For those who are thinking of staying here you will have a lovely restful time and still be close enough to towns and shops. Would love to come and stay here again.

  • "The cottage was beautiful, clean, roomy, everything we needed."

The fishing was amazing, very well kept and some really big carp in there too, take a trolley to transport your fishing gear, its not too far away but its definitely worth the walk! Cannot praise this cottage enough, owner Richard on hand for advice etc. Its not within walking distance of pub/shop but only a short drive to North Somercotes which has plenty of shops etc and Mablethorpe not too far away either Will definitely return!!

  • "We enjoyed the holiday but feels like this cottage is not recommended for elderly as the steepness of the staircase and have to bend down for wondering to the rooms."

Limited entertainment for kids apart from beach but if you like walking there were plenty. Pets friendly.

  • "Lovely cottage warm and comfortable but best suited to fairly agile people because of the spiral staircase."

Enjoyed the holiday despite the weather and 2 fish caught on the only day it didn't rain. Definitely need a car to get around as it is very rural but you can access quite a few places to visit, such as Donna Nook to see the seals and Sutton on sea.
