  • "Absolutely beautiful accommodation Host a lovley lady, spotlessly clean fabulous beds the best nights sleep in a long time."

  • "The cottage is very very clean."

Spotless in fact. The host is helpful and on hand should you need anything, but not intrusive. My only negative comment is the settee. It’s a bed settee, and terribly uncomfortable. I have back problems, so I appreciate not every one would find it so, but both my husband and I struggled to get comfortable on it!!! I resorted to pillows from upstairs to try and bolster it. It’s in pristine condition, but unless the host has sat on it continually, over a period of time, I don’t think she would appreciate the problem. Everything else was first class though. For the discomfort of the settee alone, I doubt we would return unfortunately.

  • "The Old Bakers Shop is a ideal accommodation for 2 people."

The furnishings are comfortable and the kitchen has everything you require. There is also a file provided with instructions on how the appliances work (something many hosts do not provide. They just assume you'll know). A freezer is available although not in the accommodation but in an outhouse at the side of the property. There are some lovely walks from the accommodation with information provided. The local pub, the Blue Bell, is 2 mins walk away. When we stayed in April/ May, opening times were limited (like many pubs in the area)however that may change during the summer. Barbra the host, lives next door and is on hand if required but does not intrude on your time. We would highly recommend this accommodation.

Good parking at property. Barbara was very welcoming. Pub excellent food and good beer and wine. Very friendly. Fish and chip van on Mondays was good and well priced. Nice local walks. Only negative is for the directions. It states to go past the Bluebell pub on your RIGHT, and cottage is 4th house on the Right. It should read past pub on your LEFT and cottage is 4th on the left. We did a few roundabout turns and asking for cottage before finding it.

Spotlessly clean, with lovely soft towels and bedding, and very comfortable beds! The crockery and utensils were first class. Heating excellent with no restrictions, (not that we needed it), the weather being exceptionally mild! Hot water plentiful, and the ‘over the bath’ shower is the best I’ve ever experienced!! Barbara, the host, was welcoming and not at all intrusive. The local pub, two minutes stroll away, was nice with good food. Walks on the Viking Way accessible from any direction in the village. It’s dog friendly with a small but secure garden. We really enjoyed our stay at The Old Bakers Shop, and will definitely return again. Top quality!

The property

Horncastle 5.1 miles, Cadwell park 6 miles.

Dating back to the 1800s, The Old Baker's Shop is approached by quiet country roads in the village of Belchford, near to Horncastle, in Lincolnshire.

Being within the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds, this cottage, once the original bakery in the village, is a dreamy quiet retreat, perfect for walkers and those who want to spend a peaceful break in the outdoors.

The house is semi-detached, next door to the owner's home, and retains some original features like exposed, rustic beams, complimented by a quaint country-style interior.

After taking off your boots and coats in the front porch, head into the cute and homely open-plan living space, where the sitting room hosts a leather chesterfield sofa and a wing-back armchair in the same style, across from the Freeview TV, you can relax here after a long country walk.

Perch at the breakfast bar for mealtimes or morning coffees, overlooking the excellently designed kitchen, fitting in a wealth of appliances in this close cottage space, including a dishwasher, washing machine, induction hob and electric oven.

Patio doors open out to the outdoor patio seating, with a charming picket fence separating the guest's garden from the owner's, you also enjoy your own lawn space and delightful arbor bench seat.

Upstairs on the first floor is the lovely bedroom, with two single beds and wonderful fitted wooden wardrobes for storage, and a view of the village road from the window.

The bathroom is a beautifully-fitted room with a large bath with shower over, in a lovely Victorian style, brightened by motion-censored spotlights fitted in the ceiling.

Just a short way down the road is The Bluebell Inn, a traditional country pub serving good food, while any shopping can be done in the market town of Horncastle, around 5-miles away.

Nestled between the River Bain and River Waring, Horncastle is a bustling hub, and known as the Gateway to the Wolds, home to a growing number of independent shops and boutiques, expect to walk along cobbled streets, past thatched houses and 18th and 19th century architecture.

The Lincolnshire Wolds hold a great many walking and cycling routes, including The Viking Way, a 147-mile long footpath which heads past Belchford when the route goes from Donington on Bain to Horncastle, or travel along the Lincolnshire Wold Way, a circular route which keeps to high ground to provide the best views of the Wolds.

The beautiful Georgian town of Louth lies on the other side of the Wolds and is a fabulous gastro delight for foodies everywhere, with weekly markets where you can sample some of the finest local produce around and a host of food shops around the town to pick up more tasty treats.

The county town of Lincoln is worth a day trip to see the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle, which is home to one of the four copies of the Magna Carta, dating back to 1215.

The Old Baker's Shop is a wonderful cottage to enjoy whilst you get to know this lovely area of Lincolnshire.
