  • "Woodland Lodge is a very secluded Lodge within a wood, a must if you like to get away from it all and like to see the wildlife."

The wood burner was wonderful in the recent cold weather. With the underfloor heating we were very snug. Unfortunately the upstairs bedroom was very cold so we slept downstairs on the sofa bed which was very comfortable. The kitchen is great to cook in, I would suggest a few more items like cooking utensils (large spoon, fish slice) but otherwise super. Rob, is just at the end of the phone and extremely helpful. One personal point from me is a mirror in the upstairs bedroom would be great for drying hair etc. This is a great self catering place to stay, it is fully self catering which for seasoned self caterers I had taken tea towels, dish cloths, cleaning spray etc so no issues for us. Would definitely recommend Woodland Lodge for a relaxing get away from it all break.

  • "Woodlands Lodge My wife and I stayed at Woodlands Lodge over Christmas and in short we enjoyed our stay."

However I would like to say it’s a tale of two halves and maybe you can learn from us. But again I say we really enjoyed our stay and here’s why. The lodge is located a little over 3 miles outside Boston, Lincolnshire. Set back from the road and surrounded by farmland and woods near the lodge, which you can explore. The lodge is on the owners land but set away so you still have some privacy. The lodge itself has the sitting room, dining area and kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor. Off the kitchen a stair case takes you to the double bedroom on the first floor. Out of a set of patio doors there is an enclosed garden which includes a raised decked area with a ‘wood fired’, hot tub (which we didn’t use) and furniture, which would be lovely in the warmer times of year. There is plenty of room for parking but it is easier to drive in than to drive out, only because you have to do a two point turn to face the correct way. This is an observation not a reason not to go. The front room has a sofa bed to sit on, is an unusual design but was comfortable enough as a sofa. The bed pulls out but we did not use it. A coffee table, book case with some books and TV stand with ‘freeview’, TV completes the furniture. The wood-burner is something to behold and some wood was next to the burner. The flooring is tiled and extends throughout the ground floor. The kitchen is modern and attractive to look at. The centre piece is a large multi-stove oven. A basic microwave oven and fridge for equipment. It is basically equipped but as the lodge is typically for two people this is may be understandable. I do feel that previous people may have had accidents and the odd bits have been broken and not replaced. On the odd occasion we had to be a bit creative when cooking as we do. The kitchen does not have a washing machine or freezer but it was not advertised with them. We missed this in the description, presuming that modern kitchens would have this but it was our mistake and not the owners. We were advised that because a lot of the stays are a week or less there is no reason to install them. The owner did offer help if we had anything that we needed in a freezer, which was nice. The bathroom has a shower over a bath, a large sink with a decent illuminated mirror and of course the lavatory. It may be of some help to note there are no taps to run a bath, per sa, just a shower. The dining area has a nice dining room table to seat six people, place mats are available etc. But not enough wine glasses for six, during our stay. As I say the lodge is for two typically, so enough for those who stay. On the landing having gone up stairs is a heated clothes airer do dry hand washed stuff, I guess. The bedroom has a double bed and a set of draws. I guess that because of the shape room not much else would fit. The room is set in the roof space and has sloping walls. It is still a large space and only the very tall, like myself, may have to bend a little. The garden is enclosed by an attractive fence and has a mixture of stone and for the most grass. There is a raised decked area where the hot-tub is located. The hot tub is fire fed and the logs are provided for you to buy. The logs are £15 a sack, kindling is £6 sack and fire lighters are £2 (price correct Dec 24). Whilst the listing does offer a starter pack for the wood-burner in the front room I was unsure where that might be. We wouldn’t use it though for personal reasons, looks nice though. The lodge is, as we say, enjoyable and I expect during the warmer times of the year really special. But with a little love and consideration could be a real gem to come back to time and time again. We spent time doing a few things to improve the odd thing but we shouldn’t have to do it. If we were to ask for anything, we would ask for a pint of milk on arrival so we could have a cup of tea before our shopping arrived. When did that stop being a thing?

Hi Lewis. Your review is one of the most confusing we've had so far. You seem to have had a really lovely stay and have been very complimentary throughout.. And yet you gave us 3.4 stars and lowered our overall rating, thus aiding to damage our small business’ reputation. You gave us 2 stars for facilities whilst mentioning the "wood burner is something to behold", the massive raised decking, the wood fired hot tub, the enclosed garden etc etc. You missed table tennis, a plethora of games and various other bits. We spent around £10-15k on facilities and yet you lowered our rating because you couldn't do your laundry whilst on holiday. Did you really lower our score that much for not providing milk? I will state that, providing milk stopped being a thing when veganism became more widely spread and providing cows milk to a potential vegan would be insulting and unethical. Also, the dryer is for when people use the hot tub and wish to dry their swimming attire/towels; most people don't do laundry when on holiday. Finally, the property has its own private drive and a courtyard outside big enough to comforably 3-point turn a luton van and yet you mention this like it's a negative. How many people can turn their car around on their private courtyard? What exactly could've made it easier, your own personal roundabout? It's quite upsetting to hear that we did so much right and we try so hard, and you still give us 3.4 stars. The property is already given a lot of love and consideration and it already is a real gem, however if this is the thanks we get after you clearly had such a lovely stay, you are not welcome back "time and time again"; our rating wouldn't survive it. The lodge is very isolated and peaceful which was perfect for us, the wood fired hot tub was great to relax in, especailly with the woodland surrounding. The owner was very helpful and sensitive to our sitution having a reactive dog and was very respectful. We would 100% return to the Woodland Lodge for a peaceful, restful holiday.

Amazing facilities and plenty of things to do around it. The location is quite secluded but within a 5 minute drive from anything you need. Struggled to get the fire started for the hot tub but one message to the host and he was straight there sorting it for us. Would highly recommend and would definitely return in the future

Thank you so much for your review; we really put a lot of effort in to the place so positive reviews make it feel worthwhile. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and you are welcome back any time. :-) Property Owner

  • "The setting of the property is perfect for peace and quit break."

It was comfortable and cosy. The slight downsides were, No where to hang clothes etc No visitor information, places to see/go. No storage for outdoor seat cushions, as once wet take days to dry. No door mat or mop to wipe floors for muddy paw prints etc. Bathroom floor was dirty in parts, also toothbrush holder was dirty. No dishwasher as advertised by Sykes. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but as above we feel there is room for improvement.

Hi Michael. We take feedback quite seriously and are constantly pushing to make the lodge as perfect as possible. Your points however don't really leave us much scope for improvement. 1. There is a door mat, not sure how you missed it.. 2. The bathroom floor was and is always spotless, you are potentially referring to a small, thin patch of spilled grout from when the flooring was installed. It's less noticeable than the doormats however. 3. The "Toothbrush holder" is a tea light holder, the "dirt" was probably wax. We did find it strange you filled a candle holder with soap...? 4. There is no mention of a dishwasher anywhere on the advert. 5. The cushions are waterproof, they live outside and dry fast in the sun. We have however, now bought some hangers and furnishings to hang clothes on. Your review has lowered our overall rating and while we appreciate constructive feedback, we don't appreciate people damaging our small business with false information. Please consider revising your review; perhaps include some positives? Property Owner

  • "The house was stunning and situated down a country lane with beautiful peaceful views all round."

The owner was helpful when messaged. It took 5 hours and a lot of attention to get the spa going but once it had reached temperature it maintained it very well. It is very private. A hook on the back of the bathroom door would be nice to put your towels and also a little shed to store the cushions from the outdoor sofas. It was very very peaceful, relaxing and private and we would definitely like to return. It was very dog friendly and there was a good sized portion of the garden that was securely fenced for the dogs and so you could relax completely knowing they were safe. Negatives which didn't really impact our stay are The kitchen tap does not turn into position and may get broken trying to do this at some point. The underfloor heating covers a massive area and only works on certain floor tiles.

  • "Excellent location, lovely enclosed garden for dog, with access to a bigger area for zoomies!"

Quiet peaceful setting. Well equipped kitchen, plenty of utensils and cutlery. Comfortable sitting area, good supply of books and games. Bedroom spacious, lots of electrical points throughout. Access to shower the step into bath is high without a handrail which could be difficult if balance not good. Also instructions on how to work shower would have been good, easy once you knew, but owner answered call immediately and came over. Some cosmetic work needed to rooms, but I understand the owners haven't been there long and have been concentrating on outside, so I'm sure it won't be long until it's finished. It really is a beautiful place to stay, with easy access to surrounding places and I would be happy to visit again

  • "The holiday cottage was amazing very private but when we arrived the outdoor ..."

The holiday cottage was amazing very private but when we arrived the outdoor seating was very dirty so I had to clean it all down before we could sit on it unfortunately we didn't get to use the hot tub as it was woodfire and not enough wood left maybe that should be fired up for our arrival and really we shouldn't have to buy our own wood it's a facility the owners provide so disappointed we couldn't use the hot tub also the grass to rear garden seriously needs cutting it's very long and also looks scruffy but apart from these things the holiday was lovely but when u on holiday from busy jobs we need to relax and messing on with a wood fired hot tub is not my idea that was stressful but on a whole a beautiful property also guys you need new double doors to the garden they have wood rot thank-you for letting us stay tho with good maintenance that house will be amazing x

Hi Yvonne, "The holiday cottage was amazing" isn't reflected in your 3.4 star negative review! The outdoor seating is situated in the middle of a woodland surrounded by wildlife: it gets dirty. My cleaner however always cleans and photographs it before each new arrival. The decking, seating area and lodge were spotless before your check-in time. Sadly I cannot control the toiletry schedule of the plethora of wildlife we have in the woodland and what they might have done before you arrived! The 8 person, wood-fired hot tub is a luxury facility we provide, for free! (and yet you gave us 2 stars for facilities?). It says in the description that it's wood-fired and yet you seem affronted to have got exactly what you booked? How exactly could I fire it up for your arrival when I dont know exactly when you'll arrive? It does say in the welcome pack that if you're struggling with it to contact me and ill come help. You didn't. The idea of providing unlimited free wood to guests is absurd; no holiday let does this. You are suggesting I should have larger outgoings and make less money because I spent considerably more providing you luxury facilities? You have literally lowered your review, because you didn't want to spend £10-20 on wood to throw in the £9000 luxury hot tub I provided. I feel this is a little unfair; I never expected I'd get negative reviews for spending more money on luxury facilities! I do sell 20kg bags of hardwood logs at cost and deliver them to your door. I make zero profit on selling wood. I also sell bags of coal for the large BBQ at the same price I buy them at. The BBQ is also a facility I provide so by your logic, I should provide unlimited free coal as well? The door does need replacing, it is on our list! However the door is still perfectly functional, and there's only minor aesthetic damage. Leaving us 2 stars for facilities and maintenance when the lodge is religiously maintained is a little rude. The place is otherwise pristine. Leaving us a negative review of 3.4 stars and damaging our small business is incredibly harsh. We really do work hard to make the place perfect: The place is a paradise; most of our guests comment on it like "stepping in to Narnia". If you actually did have an amazing stay, we only ask you remove or change your review to reflect that instead. Property Owner

It was an ideal location for us. The property was lovely, clean and well thought out. We didn’t use the hot tub but walked the dogs in the woodland area then came back to a lovely log fire on some evenings. I would definitely go again and recommend to anyone who wants a nice peaceful break.

  • "The cottage location is just perfect!"

The surroundings are beautiful and very peaceful, we did not see anyone about in the 4 days we were there, which was just as we hoped. We took our 2 dogs, who really enjoyed the woods and garden. The enclosed part of the garden was ideal and very secure. The cottage was very clean inside and modern. The bed and pillows were comfy and the teenager reported back that the sofa bed was lovely to sleep on to! We did have a couple of little negatives, but these did not stop us enjoying our stay. Such as only one saucepan (and a little milk pan), plus there were very few items in the cupboards, including no jug or bowl, which made it difficult to cook. The cooker, however, is a new range and was great to use. The only other little negative was how cold the bedroom was. The heat just did not travel upstairs, even with the door open all evening, and so we were cold in bed. The lounge though, was lovely and toasty with the log fire burning and this made the cottage feel very cosy and homely. The hot tub was nice, especially of an evening looking at the stars and listening to the local owl hooting. We would definitely recommend this cottage, in fact we have to family already, and we would like to visit again in the future. Thank you for a wonderful NY stay

Thanks for your feedback Karlee! We're glad you had a great stay! We have purchased a thick, sherpa blanket for the bedroom now and are looking in to alternative heating solutions for upstairs. We have also purchased loads of new items for the kitchen including jugs, bowls and more pots and pans! Your feedback was very helpful as we're always looking to improve our guests stay.
