• "Hangman’s Cottage is small but perfectly formed!"

  Everything is there that you need and it’s immaculate and clean. I had a lovely weeks stay and must say the summer house is a real sun trap. The only things I would mention are that the stairs are quite narrow and steep also a light on the stairs would be useful. But yes I would book again.

• "Hangmans Cottage is a very special place to stay, with features that definitely set it apart from most other places we have rented."

  As well as the unique history - which we enjoyed reading about - the evident care and attention to detail, imaginative use of the space and extremely generous 'treats' and other things left for guests' use were hugely appreciated. After a long drive, it was simply a delight to arrive into such a warm and cosy space with the gentle sound of radio playing in the background. Instructions provided for access and parking were clear and helpful. - luckily, we were always able to park in the lay-by. A great base for exploring the Wolds, coastline and Lincoln. Our only regret was not staying for longer and being unable to more fully enjoy the beautifully designed garden (early March cold snap).

• "This is such a well equipped, furnished and provided for cottage."

  A lot of thought and flair has been lavished here, and along with spotless cleanliness and lots of extras provided by the owners it deserves our 10 out of 10. We had a great time, and enjoyed the history, super garden and summerhouse, and comfy bed and luxury shower. The sofa was a little uncomfortable for two people, which is probably all that lets it down, but we couldn't rate it any lower than a 10 even so! Great location too, with everything in the village a step or two away. No problem with parking in the layby, or opposite, just across the road. Superb stay.

  Can't fault it at all. Safe, cosy, warm, welcoming, a lovely home from home for a week. Particularly love the information left about the property and William Marwood, those cute little shoes in the window. The attention to detail in the property is spot on. Thank you for a restful, comfortable escape from normality. Hope to be back one day.

• "Appreciated warmth of cottage on arrival and the welcome pack ."

  Very well thought out use of space and excellent amount of equipment provided. Nothing to find fault with. Clear instructions for access and key box which arrived in plenty of time for stay. Cottage located easy access to town and bus stop Was able to spend a happy day in Lincoln.

• "This house was great, myself and my mum loved it!"

  We go away every November, and try to find some luxury and quirkiness, this cottage ticked both of those requirements! We loved the welcome pack and cake! We have never been encouraged to go through the cupboards before, but loved this extra detail, we found so many hidden surprises! Cottage was in a perfect position, close to shops/ restaurants! Only issue we had was two nights, couldn't park in the layby and we think there was a football/ rugby match on as the town was packed with cars? But it didn't ruin our stay. The only thing I didn't quite like in the house was the radio on when I walked in, I panicked thinking there was people in there, never had that before! But all in all this Is a fantastic piece of history and a great holiday cottage, we've both recommended it to all our friends and family!!

• "5 Star property!"

  It was a very last minute decision to go away for the weekend - booked Friday lunchtime and arrived at the cottage early evening. As soon as we walked into the cottage we knew we’d made a good choice. We were greeted with the lamps on and music playing softly. What a welcome! We were also given a fabulous welcome pack, no need to nip out for anything. Thank you so much to the owners for being so thoughtful. The cottage is more like a home than a holiday property in that there is so much love and thought to every detail. The garden and summer house is a fabulous bonus although as we’re there for a short stay we didn’t use it other than a quick walk around looking at everything. Hangman’s cottage is in an ideal spot for walking around Horncastle, in just a few minutes you can be in shops or restaurants, pubs or tea rooms. We would love to visit again

  Everything you could think of is provided in such a way to maximise the space available. It s warm and cosy and the perfect base to explore, cycle or fish in that part of Lincolnshire. The Owners go out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect, allowing you to relax totally.

• "A fabulous little cottage, with a beautiful garden and summerhouse."

  Joy and James have obviously put so much effort into creating a comfortable and cosy place for their guests to stay, and it's clear that they get fulfillment from knowing that their guests were happy. • "This was by far one of the best holiday cottages we have ever stayed in (and there have been a few)."

  The cottage, was spotless and fully equipped with very good quality kitchen utensils. The garden was an absolute gem and the summer house and gazebo an absolute bonus. The welcome pack provided by the host was so lovely and included the delicious Lincolnshire Plum loaf, fresh bread from a local bakery, and much more. Horncastle is a great place to explore Lincolnshire from, and Horncastle itself has some lovely shops including a bakery/lovely Italian Restaurant, good pubs and a great cafe selling delicious food and coffee.

• "The property is extremely well appointed, every bit of the small space available has been utilised in a well thought out way."

  The owners make it very welcoming and do everything they can to make your stay memorable. They go out of their way to deal with any problems that may arise. This was my third visit and I can safely say that they have maintained their very high standards over all my visits. It’s a pleasure to stay there and I shall be back again in the future.

• "Fantastic renovation of this small cottage,very high quality."

  Great holiday week for us, hot weather, ceiling fan would have helped in the bedroom as due to the main road noise windows needed to be shut. The walled garden a great bonus with all the facilities, summer house, outdoor seating lush planting. A narrow stair may not suit everyone to access the bedroom, Welcome pack a very nice thought. Parking a bit of a lottery Great value cottage

Your suggestion for a ceiling fan is something we shall now look into if you found that the two tower fans already available were not sufficient. Great to know you enjoyed the garden and were happy with the cottage overall. With regard to parking we are sorry if information available on booking was'nt clear enough. The 3 -4 car Parking spaces immediately adjacent to the cottage ( directly outside & the most convenient) are not solely allocated to the property, however in addition, there are also typically a selection of spaces available within 100mts or so just across the canal footbridge, therefore thank you for your comments, ( your stay also coincided with the annual Horse Fair celebrations which may have resulted in more visitors to the area close to the Square) we hope this proves useful for future guests. • "Hangman's cottage is a super find!"

  A real gem! The cottage is very well thought out, utilising the space available to an optimum. Cozy and comfortable but with a high end finish offering making it feel luxurious too. The garden is truly lovely with the offer of helping yourself to any of the fruit or veg growing. Even with not great weather being able to sit out in the summer house was a treat. Talking of treats, the welcome package was an unexpected treat with goodies from the local bakery and fresh fruit. The bed was another notable bonus - how often do you not get a good nights sleep on holiday due to the cheap mattress - well not here, truly comfy! Cant wait to visit again.

• "Very impressed with Hangman's Cottage."

  The space is compact, and has been beautifully designed to a very high standard, immaculately kept and well equipped. We had everything we needed to explore Horncastle and the wider Lincolnshire surroundings during our stay. The hospitality of the hosts in providing local produce for us was very much noticed and appreciated! I've not stayed anywhere else that provided such a range of supplies: the basics such as teabags and cornflakes were well covered, but also jam, local honey, bread, milk, fruit, Lincolnshire plum loaf, and fresh lettuce from the garden. Speaking of the garden– it is beautiful. We had good enough weather that we were able to sit outside and read, and I tuned and played the guitar in the summerhouse. We would absolutely come back. This property really is a gem and does Sykes proud.

• "We have been trying to book this beautiful cottage for a while now & was so pleased we were able to - wasn’t disappointed at all."

  From the moment you walk through the gate, you are greeted with charm, elegance & a fab garden with a lovely summer house, BBQ area & everything you need to chill & relax… solar lights make the garden look magical- cannot fault it….that is just outside! The cottage itself has been restored to perfection with so much effort, attention to detail & love. The welcome pack - far more than expected & was very well received (pot of local honey gorgeous). The cottage is based in a good area to explore & the Kings Head thatch pub made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend a stay - owners have thought of everything to make the stay perfect…. • "Great stay at Hangman’s for the second time."

  The facilities are superb, lovely garden and comfortable cottage with nice touches like the welcome pack. The location for the town centre is perfect and easy parking in the lay-by. This time we found a walk by the disused canal and again enjoyed hunting for antiques in the numerous antique shops.

• "What an amazing find !"

  A truly stunning and unique bijou property. The owner's attention to detail is second to none. From the minute you enter through the gate , you're entering what feels like a secret garden, full of surprises. On entering the property, the use of the space, the finish, the decor, and the additional historical info on said Hangman , William Marwood,( I polished off the biography in 2 days) is excellent. You can feel the love that's gone into transforming the cottage . We were greeted by seasonal local produce along with a plethora of additional treats, and an immaculately clean cottage , topped off by first rate communication from the owner . Parking, adjacent to the cottage was not an issue and was always free , Even considering the Easter break additional traffic. Hangmans cottage is by far the best quality experience we have had, and we use these types of accommodation regularly. If you can't already tell we LOVED it .

• "They say, ‘big is beautiful’, well, in this case, small is gorgeous and perfectly formed."

  From the ingenious design and exceptionally high standard of finish to the high-end quality of every item within it. The ‘Welcome Folder’ is perfectly laid out and instructions are clear, precise, and easily understood as is the pre-arrival information. Everything works as it should (the shower should win an award as should the bed and half a dozen other items) and it’s difficult to think of anything you could possibly need that isn’t available. The ‘Welcome Pack’ is extensive and includes too many items to list and again it is of top quality. No worries about arriving and needing to get to the shops straight away. Logs and kindling for the log burner are also readily available for the whole stay, not just a starter pack. Then there is the garden and the summer house (great heater in there and it was super-toastie even when it was -4 outside), the seating, barbecue, chimera, water feature etc.etc. Again, all top quality and would allow you to enjoy the cottage whatever the weather or season. The thought, generosity, and attention to detail afforded by the owners is quite extraordinary and the longer you stay there the more details and wonders you discover. However, this really doesn’t do Hangman’s Cottage justice, only by staying there can you possibly enjoy and appreciate what is on offer. It really is incredible. Not so much a holiday as an experience. I have stayed in many cottages and the like over the years, and this is by far the best in its class. Outstanding in every department. The only downfall is that you eventually have to leave. Thank you, Joy and James, for a wonderful stay. Superb.

• "Beautiful cozy little cottage newly renovated to a very high standard."

• "Hangman’s Cottage was near perfect."

  The only suggestion we have is about maybe providing recycling bins. We loved the cottage and spent at least two hours every day in the summer house reading which was so comfortable. We loved the garden in the Autumn sunshine Everything about the property is so tasteful and so thoughtful. Brilliantly put together by the owner.

• "Just a great relaxing stay , fantastic modern amenities, central position to a lot of activities in the area ."

  The host provided an informative collection of local knowledge to visit . The wifi was the best we have had in the UK full marks there . Even though it is next to the road , with the garden walls and double glazed windows no cars could be heard , my wife particularly liked the garden summer house and garden area . Would I stay again yes , but it would be for two weeks Thank you Joy and James

• "The best equipped holiday cottage we have ever stayed at."

  Everything is of excellent quality. It is small, but we knew that when we booked. The garden and summerhouse are lovely and as the weather was good we made full use of both. Thank you.

• "Lovely cottage in a great location short walk from the town centre."

  The cottage has been recently renovated and is very high spec, well equipped and very tastefully furnished. We stay in a lot of rental cottages and this ranks highly as there is a quality mattress and bedding, all mod cons in the kitchen and a really good shower. Super welcome pack as well, everything is thought of. Best of all is the secluded cottage garden and summer house, and depending on the season there's fresh fruit and veg in the garden. We were lucky and parked in the adjacent layby. This is next to a busy road and that is the only down-side, but secondary glazing keeps the noice out unless you want the bedroom window open. It didn't disturb our sleep. All in all we'd highly recommend it.

We love that it is so close to all the amenities of the town centre and at the same time time boasts a 'secret' garden within the beautiful surroundings of the conservation area (especially the church tower with its clock chimes) Pleased to hear you were able to park directly outside, there are generally spaces available -and that the close proximity of Jubilee way didn't cause any nuisance is reassuring to know. • "A hidden gem of a cottage."

  The owners have skillfully made the best use of every bit of the space available to ensure a great experience. The attention to detail was second to none and we appreciated the many little touches. So much thought has been taken to ensure you want for nothing. The garden was also delightful and we spent many hours just relaxing in the summerhouse; sewing, reading and just listening to the radio. The perfect place to explore the surrounding area and recharge your batteries!

• "Beautiful cottage and all the extra personal touches that were provided made us feel very welcome."

  Lovely garden and summerhouse that we were able to use despite the showery weather and great to be able to pick fresh salad growing in the garden. We agree with some of the previous visitors that the bedroom is very comfortable but compact, so it is advisable not to bring too much luggage and the sofa could be a little bigger.

• "Outstanding property for such a small space."

  Everything you needed was there and well organised even down to the summerhouse’s comfy chair and guitar! The welcome package was fabulous, loaves; butter; tea, coffee & milk ; fresh fancy cakes and a large bowl of fresh fruit. I used the property as a base for cycling and was impressed to find a covered storage space for two bicycles. I will be recommending it to all my friends and colleagues

• "A lovely, quaint and well located cottage with a high quality finish."

  We spent a romantic evening sipping wine in the delightful garden room. The addition of fresh fruit, bread, butter, milk etc was an unexpected but very kind gesture.

• "We really enjoyed our stay at Hangmans cottage."

  The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing break. Well laid out tastefully furnished many extras provided by the owners. The garden is laid out with ample seating, a summer house beautiful flowers and plants with veg and salad plants that can be added to your meals. The town of Horncastle provides all you need in cafes, shops, bakers and butchers and good restaurants. A market in the town centre once a week is worth a visit. The town has a sports centre with pool, also a indoor bowling centre. We took advantage of the walks in the countryside locally. The owner provides lots of info on what is around and about the area.

• "This cottage has been cleverly and thoughtfully designed, and furnished and fitted to a very high standard, both inside and out."

  We had no problems parking in the lay-by and it is full of extra touches eg fresh veg to pick from the garden, barbecue materials, shaded and sunny outdoor seating, and plenty more. Don't bring too much luggage as the space is limited indoors, but we will definitely be coming again to explore the area further from this delightful cottage.
