  • "The property was spotlessly clean and very well equipped and comfortable."

The owners were nice and helpful and left us a fire laid ready in the grate and enough wood to last us almost a week. We did buy more wood as we loved the fire on an evening. The cottage was lovely and warm otherwise and it was a great place to de-stress. The garden wasn’t as big as what it appeared on the photos but nevertheless it was as beautiful. I was sad to leave.

So glad you enjoyed your time at Auld Cottage. Hope to see you here again:) Property Owner

  • "Quirky little cottage in a great area."

Was a little chilly late afternoon with no instructions to alter the heating, having said that once the oven was on for our dinner it soon warmed the place up making it a lot more cozy. Lots of info on things to see and do in the area and with off road parking we didn’t have to worry about lugging cases up streets. Great for 2 people or 2 adults and a child ( I went with my mum) but think it would be too small for 4 adults as sofa was only big enough for 3 adults max meaning fourth adult would have to be on a kitchen chair. If going to the area again with my mum or partner I would definitely book this again but if going with my partner and another couple I would probably look for something with a bit more space. Clean and tidy with everything you need. Would definitely recommend to others looking to stay in this area.

Many thanks for the lovely feedback. Glad you enjoyed the cottage. The underfloor heating is set at a comfortable temperature for most but we're always happy to adjust if you'd like it warmer :) There's always a log burner laid out ready to make it extra cosy too! He's love to see you again if you come back to the area! Property Owner

  • "Nice cottage with good parking and a lovely little garden to sit out in with a coffee if the weather is good, part of it gets the late sun which is a bonus, the village is nice and there are some lovely local places / areas to visit, note there is no longer a shop in the village, not an issue for us but details should say this now, nice wood burner in the lounge which was handy as chilly some nights, the only real downside to this property really is the bathroom, we knew it was small when we booked, but it is very badly laid out with a miles to small sink [plenty of space for a larger one ?"

] and no point saying you need to take care with the shower not to get water everywhere, just fit a better shower tray ? it also needs a extractor really. Shame as it would put us off booking it again.

Thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed some evening sun in the garden:) We have updated the details about the village shop. We appreciate the bathroom sink is small - we underestimated space available when we were renovating! We are planning to fit a bigger one when time allows! Property Owner

  • "We had a fabulous week in Norwell."

The cottage is exceptional and perfect for 2. The kitchen was equipped with almost everything you needed for a week's holiday (though serious cooks should perhaps take a couple more sharp knives). We mostly ate in and enjoyed using the large range cooker. The sofa is large and the garden is a little sun-trap. Yes, the shower room is small but it's of very high quality finish and my partner who is 6ft 5" didn't have an issue. We used the cottage as a base to explore Newark (lovely little town), Southwell and Sherwood Forest. Would very highly recommend a visit to the National Holocaust Centre about 15 mins away. Some absolutely gorgeous pubs in surrounding villages and we ate one night at the local which was hearty fare! For a really outstanding Italian meal go to The Carpenter's Arms at Walesby. We loved this cottage and whole area and we'll definitely be back!

Thank you for your lovely feedback. so glad you enjoyed the cottage and exploring the local area. Thanks for recommending your favourite attractions and places to eat out too. Hope to see you here again :) Property Owner

  • "Loved everything about the cottage, good quiet location, cosy, immaculately clean and comfy."

Great log fire, shower and very well stocked kitchen. One of the best we have stayed in!! The only improvement I would make is to put a PIR light at the rear of the property as this is the main entrance to the property ( although there is an outside light it was turned on from the inside) so if arriving in the dark you need to have a torch to see the key lock and the safe box which I would have had higher up the wall as it was hard to see the numbers and get to as it was so low down.

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and the cottage. Good suggestions re the outside light and key safe - we will look into making those improvements. Hope to see you again! Property Owner

It was really quiet but quite near to Newark so it was the best of both worlds as far as getting to restaurants and supermarkets. The cottage was really interesting itself and the local history books about the village were very thorough and a credit to the locals who were friendly and welcoming.

  • "We liked this cottage but several things spoilt our stay."

The village store had closed which we were not informed about. The nearest shop was 5 miles away. The underfloor heating was very temperamental and we had to rely on the wood burner downstairs. The bathroom was minute and the sink no bigger than a mixing bowl. On the plus side there was prime and sky tv and an excellent pub in this very rural village

Thank you for your feedback. The village shop has recently closed unfortunately - we are hoping it will be able to re-open soon. In the meantime, there is a 24 hr garage with basic supplies a mile away and a co-op in a neighbouring village just under 10 minutes drive. We have set the underfloor heating at a steady temperature which suits most people but of course everyone is different so there are instructions in the welcome pack to adjust this to suit and we're always there to help if you need us! We're glad you liked the cottage and the village pub. Property Owner

  • "We had a most enjoyable stay in Auld Cottage."

It has all the necessary facilities and offers them in comfortable and surprisingly spacious surroundings. It seems bigger on the inside than the outside view suggests. The off road parking is a real advantage, giving easy access from the car to the rear of the cottage for moving luggage both ways. The owners are friendly and helpful, quickly responding to our requests for assistance. Their plans for ongoing enhancements will make the cottage even more cosy and we wish them well in their endeavours. We had some very pleasant walks in the area and in Sherwood Forest, which is a short drive away The local pub, the Plough, does very good food and is always a warm and friendly place to visit.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. So glad you enjoyed your stay. It's certainly a lovely time of year for walks in Sherwood forest :) Property Owner

  • "A lovely cottage."

It’s is traditional so mind your head if you’re tall! Lovely and comfy and great to sit in the little garden in the early evening. Noise from tractors and lorries on the road during the day and it is not double glazed due to the authentic renovation so bear that in mind if you don’t like noise. Lovely little shop a minute away too. Great as a base to visit Lincoln and Newark.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Although it's a tucked-away quiet village most of the time, you are right - you will hear the odd vehicle passing by, sometimes horses too! Property Owner
