"His was a peaceful location, with good access to walking routes and open space."

The listing advised that there is a pub within 0.6 miles, this pub isn’t open, and looked to have been completely closed down for a significant amount of time. The accommodation itself is very dated and in need of modernisation, the double mattress needs replacing and all the furnishings require updating, the pictures of the property do not lie. The bath mat has escaped from the early 80’s, possibly 70s. The fridge and oven worked but were very old and the kettle was incredibly old with a lead that was quite dangerous as it kept getting stuck. I’d recommend bringing your own tea / coffee / sugar, there were 4 sachets of each. There’s also rather odd signage throughout the property with political undertones. With some significant TLC this could be brilliant property. Sadly we won’t be visiting again. The owners did not say hello, give any welcome and left limited information about the area. Again beautiful location, very disappointing cabin.

I do apologise that the listing states there is a pub in walking distance, I have messaged Sykes about this. In all the cabins there are instruction booklets where we have listed local places to eat out. To be fair, there are lots of pubs in walking distance, if you like walking. The double mattress was actually replaced last year, we use a family business in Alford called Askews, who makes them to order for us. You mention the furnishings require updating, stating “the pictures of the property (on the website) do not lie”. If you didn’t like the pictures on the website, I struggle to understand why you booked it. As you said, the pictures show exactly what you are coming to! You state the bathmat escaped the early 80’s, possibly 70’s. It is actually less than 6 months old, yes it may be an old fashion design, but it’s a bath mat. Next you mentioned the fridge and the oven being very old. The fridge is basic but it is not old, and it is immaculate. The oven is less than 12 month old. I’m not sure what gave you the impression it was old. The kettle was next… “incredibly old with a lead that was quite dangerous as it kept getting stuck” Again it is a basic white kettle, that again is less than 12-month-old, we have looked at the lead carefully and it is absolutely fine, where exactly were you trying to stick it? You stated you’d recommend bringing your own tea, coffee and sugar as there were only 4 sachets of each. Well yes, generally on a self catering holiday, guests do bring their own tea, coffee and sugar. We like to leave some sachets of tea, coffee and milk for our guests so if they’ve had a long journey they can make themselves a hot drink, Most of our guests appreciate this rather than finding it something to criticise. “Odd signage throughout the property with political undertones” sorry, I can’t comment, you’ve got us there! We have no idea what you’re on about. Lastly, I apologise for the owner not saying Hello. This is because sadly she passed. Property Owner

"The cabin was great There was everything you needed for a peaceful stay."

The only fault was the Sykes website states there is a pub within walking distance, which there isn't. Unfortunately the village inn appears to have been closed for some time. However this didn't detract from a nice break. John
