  • "Our stay was from 13th September to 20th September."

Thank you for the gifts on arrival, most enjoyable. The Stable had everything we needed, extremely comfortable and homely. We had fabulous weather so we were able to sit in the garden and enjoy the sunshine. Very peaceful we both loved Saxilby and walking along the canal. Everything is so near by, the Co-op, bus stops and train station. Would certainly stay there again. Regards Kathy and Paul

Everything was provided including welcome goodies of cheese, Prosecco and Lincoln plum bread. The property was close to rail and transport links and has parking for 2 vehicles which we considered essential. We definitely intend to come back to The Stables at the next opportunity and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this lovely cottage.

The garden was pleasant and much larger than I had thought from the pictures. The location was quiet, especially when you consider it was in the middle of a village. Parking was easy as well as access to the property. Thank you.

  • "Initially looked lovely, bright and airy."

Unfortunately the property in our opinion wasn’t that clean. The fridge needed a good clean with food left in the freezer. The cutlery and some of the pans required a good scrub. The duvet cover in the main bedroom looked shabby with pulls in the material and could do with being replaced. There were a lot of cobwebs and spiders on the windowsills and skylights. Outside offered an enclosed garden which was great for the dogs however the grass was overgrown, the owner said on our arrival that he would be back in a day or two to cut but unfortunately this didn’t happen. On a positive the weather was great during our stay so the garden furniture was appreciated. The owners left a note in the property about the sap from the tree which is in the allotted parking area so you’ll need to be mindful when parking up unless you want to wash the sticky sap off every day.

  • "We had a lovely stay."

The cottage is beautiful and we loved the village. Very easy to get the train to Lincoln and travel to the seaside. There was two things I would have liked. A dishwasher instead of a tumble dryer and a parasol in the garden. There’s a lovely seating area but it’s south facing so there was no shade to sit in. Other than that it was perfect for us

  • "A gem of a cottage tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac near the centre of a large village with lots of amenities (shops and pubs) close by."

Perfectly situated for travelling into Lincoln with a train station about 5 minutes walk away. The property itself is clean, airy and comfortable with a good patio area suitable for al fresco dining. Beds are very comfortable and bathroom and kitchen facilities excellent. We much appreciated a welcoming bottle of wine, flowers, plum loaf and cheese - a nice touch. Our stay coincided with a notable drop in temperature and we did struggle a bit to cope with the heating controls for which clearer instructions and/or a simpler method of operation would have been welcome. The gas boiler also emitted a slight whining noise when running. Other than that, The Stable was everything we wanted for our weekend away and we unhesitatingly recommend it to other travellers.

  • "I initially booked one week and stayed for two weeks."

The property was lovely and clean and upon arrival there was a gift of Prosecco, Plum loaf and Lincolnshire Poacher (its nice to see local produce in the welcome pack). The furniture is comfortable well thought out with all the necessary amenities. Although I didn't use the garden it looked nice and tidy and of a reasonable size. The property is well located with nearby train and bus access to Lincoln. The Hosts were friendly and welcoming. The *only* negative is that my car was completely covered in tree sap from parking in the allocated space.

There were lots of ants and hatching flies on the patio when we arrived. We poured water and washing up liquid on them which seemed to deter them a bit! There was no ‘welcome pack’ of any kind! While I assume this is not obligatory, it was upsetting to read in the comments book on the table that others had received plum loaf, Prosecco and fresh flowers!

! We have stayed in many holiday cottages and the Stables is up there with the best! Tastefully furnished, lovely and warm, well equipped, good parking, very clean. Definitely want to go back, the garden looked great but was far too cold to go out. Saxilby is a lovely village and everyone was so friendly. Loved its proximity to so many places. Train station is few minutes from the cottage. It took 11 minutes on train into Lincoln £5.80 return for 2 people. Doddington Hall was 8 minutes. Pye Wipe pub was highly recommended, with good reason (food was delicious) 10 minutes. Great few days, definitely recommend

Very handy for dog walking to the recreation ground. Lovely dog friendly pub at The Sun Inn and had a couple of meals there which were very good. The only negative, and just a minor one, the rear garden/lawn in need of some attention. Other local amenities on the door step and a good base for exoring further a field. Excellent location with local shops, eateries and pub in easy walking distance. The train station is a 3 min walk from the door and you can get a train to Lincoln in 12 minutes. Very reasonable cost at £9.70 return for our family of 5. The cottage itself was beautiful. Exceptionally clean and tidy. A good array of books, games and 2 smart tvs kept the kids entertained. Nice outside area which we didn't get chance to use as only here for a short stay. The kitchen was very well equipped and had everything you would need to cook a nice meal. It was extremely hot when arrived on Friday and the owners very thoughtfully came and dropped off some fans to help keep cool. These were very welcome as it was over 30 degrees. I would highly recommend the cottage and would very much like to revisit the area for longer in the future and would not hesitate in returning here.

The cottage had everything to make use off although we ate out most of the time, our choice. It felt like home from the moment we entered the front door. The area was so peaceful and local people are so friendly. Although we didn't get to meet the owners in person all contact numbers were left for us in case we needed them. Also they had left us a lovely note, saying they are new to this. Well what can we say other than congratulation to you both you have done a fantastic job thank you. Wendy and Dudley.

We suggest this is screened off until it’s removed/ improved. It takes away from the rest of the garden and house as is not only an eye sore but potentially dangerous. The shed itself looks dreadful and as this is your first ‘ view’ as you approach the property it puts you off. The approach to the house and the parking bay was messy overgrown and agsin not welcoming. The outside space was v disappointing. The house was pleasant inside .

  • "The stables is a lovely property and well placed in a beautiful village ."

A few improvements would make it perfect, the gate is not safe with dogs and could do with a internal lock , it was windy when we arrived and it kept blowing open , a simple adjustment ( we moved the BQ in-front of it for our stay . Also a dishwasher is a must no one wants to wash up on holiday . The garden was messy at the back of the shed attention to holes under fence ( with small dogs ) a ladder had been placed in front !! A old paddling pool and football net was just left with roofing felt ( I know there was some mention of doing the shed up - but I think this stuff should have been moved , didn’t let my dogs out alone in the garden with rubbish and gate issues, but this is easily solved in otherwise a beautiful cottage .

Walks along the Fossdyke canal, convenience store at one end of the street and a recreation field at the other. Pubs, fish and chip, pizza place all an easy walk away.
