The chapel was a lovely and specious and clean The only downside was not knowing the dogs wasn’t allowed upstairs prior to booking

  • "Positives: This is the first truly dog-secure garden we've ever had, which was nice as we were able to have our dachshund off-lead."

The chapel is tastefully and sympathetically renovated to a good standard and the hot tub was a nice touch. Negatives: The second bedroom is advertised as having a zip-link double bed as an option. In actual fact it's two wooden-framed singles pushed together and held in place by a bracket. This, together with a mattress with all the support and comfort of a biscuit, make this room entirely unsuitable for adults. The pans, particularly the non-non-stick frying pan, have seen better days and need replacing. The smoke alarm at the top of the stairs was covered in duct tape and the window in the living area has clearly been leaking for some time. Lastly, as others have mentioned, there are no emergency contact details for the owners. This was particularly concerning when there was a planned power cut on the last day which we weren't informed about, which left us unable to cook, use the hot tub, watch TV or use the internet. In summary, could be a great place but needs work.

  • "Disappointing stay for us."

We booked here because we have 2 dogs with social anxiety which means we spend most of the time away from people. We wanted somewhere with an enclosed garden for them and a hot tub for us. On arrival, there were rules for the dogs which included not allowing them upstairs. This was difficult for us as on of them chews. If I had known this before booking I would not have booked here. This should definitely be on the listing. The next disappointment was the mattress, which appeared to be a memory foam with severe dementia. We could feel the slats of the bed. Then the hot tub was a massive disappointment. The jets were weak, the water was below the minimal level and we were left with 1 test strip and 1 treatment which we used within 3 days and discoloured again in 2 days. No one to contact for maintenance. We have stayed in other places with hot tubs and never had this issue. We also developed spots which apparently is from hot tub water. We also only had 2 towels we had to keeps washing and drying. The other issue was cleaning equipment. There wasn’t enough cloths or cleaning products. The vacuum did not work, and was full somehow. The mop head fell off the mop. I feel for the price, it needs some loving care and someone to contact for the hot tub. Paying extra for this, it should be working well. We went home a day early.

Fantastic break away. Wanted to stay on longer. Hot tub was great. Would have preferred it if there was better pans as they looked very used and maybe more pans. The welcome pack was very well put. Explained everything. The tea and coffee tray with the biscuits was a good touch. Made us smile. Very tidy. Will return in the future.

  • "Absolutely stunning chapel renovated to the highest standard, loved reading the back story to the build."

Very well equipped from washing machine to firelighters, would love to return in the winter and make use of the fire. We stayed during a really hot period, whilst there is a fan provided it could with an upgrade, the blades come loose every so often. We also couldn't shut the roof blinds in the bedrooms. Other than that I can't fault it. The recommendations book was really useful to find places to visit. Whilst it's not a busy road there are quite a lot of tractors and hgv's that pass but I took the dog for a walk twice a day down the road and always found the drivers very considerate by slowing down and giving us lots of room. Thank you for a lovely stay, would love to come back x

  • "Fabulous stay!"

Just wish we had booked longer than 4 nights! Everything was so well equipped especially the kitchen. Added touches like the toys both inside and out provided hours of fun for our daughter (and us) Lovely position with no neighbours was an added bonus for us, and a lovely get away from work/every day life. We packed so much into our time away with visits to Skegness, Lincolnshire Wildlife Park, Lincoln, Baytree owl sanctuary and Springfields. The hot tub was a lovely addition especially after busy days to come back and relax. Only feedback is it would be handy to have a hot tub vacuum as during our stay lots of tractors working on fields around (which were brilliant to watch), and the dirt they produced seemed to settle in the hot tub, and we had no way to remove it as too fine for the net, although this could of just been a one off, and we still enjoyed the hot tub! Thank you for a lovely time, we will definitely be returning, and next time for longer!

  • "We stayed at Richrose for a week in July."

The property it’s self if stunning and have been lovingly refurbished. However, the furnishings are not great! The couch is cheap and extremely uncomfortable with hard wood in sections of it, and the beds feel like you are on a camping mattress, to have slightly more comfortable couch and bed would make for a much better stay. Secondly the hot tub, I did go back and forth with the owners due to reading reviews about how the hot tub wasn’t great and un sanitary. On arrival it looked great, very clean. However, we were left one testing strip to test the hot tub and a small tub with some powder in it, no instructions! We therefore didn’t test it and didn’t use it after 3 days. If you want people to do the testing of the hot tub you need to provide instructions, more than one test strip and details of what chemicals we are handling. It’s great that we can test ourselves but more information please. Lastly there were no cleaning products even although it stated in the book to give a general clean up as you would in your own home using the cleaning products provided, one bottle of toilet duck so couldn’t use that on the worktops and therefore had to buy cleaning products to use there. As I said property is stunning but it was definitely more of an air b and b than a luxury cottage.

  • "Lovely converted Chapel, stained glass and features pretty."

Double bed comfy. Nice touch to have the log fire. Peaceful and remote enough location however close to shops and conveniences. Mid way through stay advised to dipstick (1 provided) and add small container of bromine ...we did this 48 hours into stay as hot tub was blue /Green in colour, little change noted and no more chemicals or tests for tub. We gave the hot tub a miss for rest of stay as not convinced it was sanitary, think it's also not powerful or filtering properly so big disappointment. Although the Chapel has a social media presence there were no direct contacts in the information for the stay, complained to sykes but they got back night before leaving so just gave up. All in all, would stay again if hot tub replaced and if guests given testing kits to ensure water is safe on a day to day basis. Recent reviews also said about tub water quality so its not an isolated incident seemingly. Dog friendly, liked the dog gate and bowls provided.

The thought given to the information pack was top notch. If you go do try some of the farm shops set out. A climb to the top of the tallest church spire in the UK (at Boston) is well worth it (200 steps, but great views)

  • "Lovely stay with my daughters."

We just wanted some time together and this was the perfect place. We had everything we needed at the chapel so other than the occasional dog walk we didnt leave. The owners have thought of everything and have clearly listened to previous reviews...even had candles to put on my birthday cake. We did find the sofa and beds uncomfortable but only being there for 5 days it didn't bother us. The owners left a test kit so we knew the hot tub was clean enough to get in but it didn't look clean....haven't used many so not sure if that's normal. Either way, we had a lovely time and would love to try a winter vist next time to try the gorgeous fireplace! One last note...our dogs are very small and were able to squeeze through the square holes in the fence....they can't escape as it just leads to the back of a shed but just mentioning in case others panic like we did! Its perfectly safe! Thank you for a lovely, relaxing stay!

The garden is perfect for dogs but the fencing restricts any views. Cons. The furniture is not very comfortable nor is the bed. The Hot tub needed attention as the water was very cloudy, I don’t think the chemicals were right, very strong smell of chlorine. As this was one of the main reasons why we booked this property we won’t be returning

The garden was perfect for our little dog to run around in. We enjoyed having a real fire in the evening. The only disappointing thing was that we couldn't use the hot tub at all as the water was not clean and was very cloudy when we arrived and it did not clear during our stay. Apart from the hot tub issue, we couldn't fault Richrose Chapel itself.

The secure garden and it being 100% firework free was a HUGE selling point for us. The secure gated car spot was a nice touch too. The chapel was open plan yet still cosy. The Welcome Pack was the most thorough we have ever received at a rental - very impressed! The chapel was well equipped, especially in the kitchen. There was even a foiled tray ready for our sausages! The only feedback we would have would be from a cleanliness point of view. The listing said no dogs upstairs but the stair carpet had a lot of dog hair on suggesting otherwise. This didn’t bother us at all personally but I was worried we would possibly be penalised for this - although the dog hairs were mainly black and our dog is not. It did however suggest the stairs carpet hadn’t been hoovered properly.

  • "Just back from a wonderful week at Richrose Chapel."

It has been thoughtfully and lovingly converted and restored to make a comfortable and unusual holiday home. The owners have done an amazing job. The online photos are accurate - it really is set away from any neighbours; the handful of dwellings along the same road are around half a mile either side of The Chapel. First impressions were excellent - the stained glass windows in particular are wonderful, and the interior is finished to a high standard. The hot tub is a great addition. The Chapel is cosy and comfortable and very well equipped. Comfy beds and scrupulously clean throughout. Only downside would be that the sofa is a little hard and low backed so not the most comfortable - just a small and fairly insignificant detail! We encountered an issue while we were staying which was reported to Sykes immediately. The owners arranged for a tradesman to come out within hours to rectify the problem without any significant disruption to our holiday - we appreciated this greatly! There’s not heaps to do in the local area in our opinion, so I’d recommend this mainly for those seeking peace and quiet and an unwind. We took trips out to Hunstanton Old beach, to the Lincolnshire Air Heritage museum in East Kirkby, and to RAF Coningsby, all a 45-60 minute drive from the property. We would love to return to Richrose Chapel - possibly in autumn/winter so as to truly enjoy the cosy log burner!

I had to phone Sykes, who contacted the owner, and told us about the secret cutlery drawer inside another drawer under the worktop. I believe this is a 4 star cottage - why isn't it 5 star?
