The owners were extremely helpful before and during the rental period and the property was well kept, inside and out. "House rules" were clear and reasonable (e.g. no glass in the hot tub). The hot tub was clean and very relaxing. Check in and check out were also very relaxed and allowed a great deal more flexibility than most places. Excellent location for most Chester and Chester-adjacent attractions. 8 adults and 2 kids never had space issues in either the house or the garden (and most of us could even fit in the hot tub at the same time!). Overall, an excellent location and host.

  • "Mickle Trafford Manor is a beautiful spacious house, which by far exceeded our expectations."

(I don’t think the photo’s or details on the website do it justice). Both house and garden had plenty of seating for everyone (group of 8 adults). It was great to have enough comfortable seating in the lounge for everyone to sit in there together. (Very difficult to find this in holiday properties). The whole house had been carefully thought through to ensure there was enough of everything for everyone: seating, fridges, oven space, pots, pans, games (the list could go on). The house is very well equipped, beautifully presented and the games room was just brilliant. The hot tub was lovely for those in our group who wanted to relax during the evenings after days out. Sam and John were fab giving advice, such as where to visit. They were incredibly responsive to any questions regarding the house. Such lovely people too, very friendly and accommodating. The Manor is in a good location. In walking distance of two pubs. We had a Taxi for 4, from Chester centre back to the Manor which was under £10 (less than £2.50 each). It’s an easy drive to: Chester centre, many places of interest, Cheshire Oaks shopping village and an array of different supermarkets. We had a cyclist in our group who found some lovely cycle trails. In summary: A beautiful property exceeding any expectations, exceptional owners, great location. Would definitely recommend.

  • "This is probably more to do with Sykes than the property owner!"

Behind every holiday booking is a real family/person; behind every person there's a life; behind every life there's a story. We took a few days away because for various reasons it was badly needed, so we deliberately went for accommodation that looked suitable for our dogs so that it was stress free. Sykes advertised this propery as having an 'enclosed' garden, which by definition means the garden is cut off and therefore secure. As soon as we arrived, the owner told us that the garden isn't secure and that really put pressure on us because every time the dogs needed toileting, they had to go on a lead - that's a lot of time in the day for two dogs. I mentioned this via whatsapp to Sykes and they said they never guarantee a garden to be secure but the point is, they advertised it as 'enclosed' which is actually false advertising because the garden wasn't enclosed - there were huge gaps at the bottom and one of our dogs did actually escape when we tested them out there. It is misleading the customer by advertising in this way. I actually chose this property over another because it said the garden was enclosed. Apart from that, the property was as advertised but staying highlighted its shortfall of not having a downstairs toilet. The fresh flowers around the house were a lovely touch and the games room was amazing.

Sam and her father were very helpful too. just a few points, which in no way affected our visit 1 No downstairs toilet. Very strange in such a large house. 2 Could do with double glazing in the large bedroom facing the road 3 One or two of the many sofas could do with upgrading.

Old house filled with modern facilities. Plenty of books games magazines to see and find in all rooms of the house. We had a 1,4,and 6 year old and they loved exploring all the little nooks and crannies and spying on the grown ups. Thought the ‘ sitouterie’ at the bottom of the garden was going to provide some respite but it turned out to be spy HQ. The games room was perfect and really appreciated that music could be played in every room with most having Bluetooth speakers. Great service from the owners who had great advice about places to go and how to get there and always available at the end of the phone. Also had the outside caterer come in for a birthday celebration and she was first rate. Bonus was it was the last full day of the holiday and she left the kitchen spick and span. Highly recommend

The owners have taken great care in presenting a beautiful rental with everything you need. The indoor and outdoor spaces are larger than they look on the photos, there's plenty of space for a relaxing stay. The games room, hot tub, and sauna we're fabulous. There's a well tended garden which has different seating areas and a large gas BBQ, ideal for outdoor entertaining. Inside the house there is a large well equipped kitchen, with two fridge freezers, (It's amazing how many large rentals have only one) great for stashing the supermarket delivery order. There are so many sofas dotted around the house, we should have counted them. The house was spotlessly clean, there were fresh flowers and a lovely welcome tray. The manor is very old in parts, it has lots of character and as such there are lots of changes in level and interesting steep staircases to some of the rooms. All bedrooms are upstairs as the description says, so not a suitable property for those with mobility issues. We had an amazing time and could easily have stayed longer, there is so much to see in the area. Sam was a lovely and responsive host, can't recommend this property highly enough.

We were a group of 4 couples celebrating some of our 50th Birthdays, and the house was simply perfect for us. The house itself is lovely and full of character, with plenty of space for us all to spread out and relax without being on top of one another. But more importantly, it was perfect for the social side of our weekend, especially the outside patio area and games room building at the bottom of the garden, not to mention the BBQ, hot tub and sauna ). And with us all being of a certain age, we particularly enjoyed the retro turntable music system and vinyl collection in the games room, which took us back to our youth. Sam, the owner, could not have been more lovely and helpful, and met us when we arrived for a full guided tour. She was always on hand for any questions, but left us alone to enjoy our stay, and was very flexible in terms of check out time, as fortunately for us, there was no one else checking in on the day of our departure. (this was much appreciated after our final night of partying!!). All in all it was a fabulous weekend at a wonderful house, and some of our friends are already talking about renting it out again for a family get together. Thoroughly recommend!

We all said it was the best place we have ever stayed in. I don’t know how anyone could find fault with the house or the owner, who is on hand if needed to deal with any issues. Would highly recommend. Loads of space, beautiful, large rooms, the kitchen is perfect for cooking and socialising and the garden is beautiful. The hot tub and summer house are also fab. 10/10!

  • "We rented Mickle Trafford Manor for a week (11th - 18th June) for our family holiday with 6 adults and 3 children."

The accommodation was exceptional and the house had every thing we needed. Sam is a fantastic host, quick to respond to our needs, and even provided a paddling pool for the children. The garden and hot tub were used throughout the week, property highly recommended for families

  • "Sam was lovely and the welcome gift was most appreciated - she did say that her father would be in to water pots each day and check the hot tub."

We did find this a bit intrusive and the hot tub was not fit for purpose for most of the week due to thermostat problems - we booked a property specificaly with a hot tub and paid a premium for it but didnt get it!!!! Money is being spent by the owner on a games room and sauna in the garden - the whole party agreed that the money should be spent on having a working hot tub with chemicals in ( there were non on the last 2 days) and on fitments within the Manor - which we appreciate is an old building - but needs attention. We informed Sam on our departure of all the little snags we found and she did start correcting them - to many to mention on here. The overall stay was great and lots of room for the children but i would say a lot more work needs to be done to meet the usual high standards of a Sykes property that we have come to enjoy on previous holidays.

I feel your time staying at the Manor has been disappointing. As I do take it very personally if a guest party hasn't experienced a comfortable stay especially after the year in which we have all experienced. I will firstly address the hot tub. As you stated the thermostat broke and a hot tub engineer was called to replace, unfortunately he connected it to the wrong pipe so this caused a delay in usage. Our hot tub is emptied and cleaned and filled with fresh water for every guest party. Chemicals are used only when dipsticks indicate the chemical balance required, this is done at first light so not to disturb your stay. To make our garden full of summer colours, we have planted pots of bedding plants, they need watering. Each guest party are told this on arrival. On your departure you very kindly shared a few issues you encountered all of which could have been easily rectified at your convenience. We do rely on guests to notify us with issues and it is disappointing you were unable to do this during your stay. Thank you for your comments, customer feedback is very important to help us continue to improve our standards. Property Owner

  • "This is an enchanting historic building with superb modern facilities."

The building provides expansive and comfortable day rooms and bedrooms and a beautiful garden, enhanced by a hot tub that was used by most of the group. Cooking facilities, cooking equipment and food storage space are more than adequate. The owner was nearby if needed, and on hand to advise on local amenities and places to visit. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family.

  • "The house is old and it was very interesting to see how it’s been developed from its Tudor roots via Georgian and Victorian alterations over the years."

All of the bedrooms are a good size, and the bathrooms are well appointed with up to date power showers etc. The larger drawing room has lots of seating for big get togethers, and we loved the large kitchen diner which also has the bonus of comfy seating at one end so it’s very sociable. Everything was very clean and comfortable, and we were lucky enough to have warm sunny weather so it was lovely to relax in the garden. Sam, the owner was extremely helpful and friendly. She went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy, was very flexible on check in and check out times, and when we asked for recommendations for takeaways, came up with some excellent ones (it was that period of semi lockdown when only outside dining was available and we preferred to sit in the comfort of the Manor to eat). Highly recommended and we will be back another time.

About the location

CHESTER

Liverpool 17 miles; Manchester 36 miles.

Chester has quite rightly been described as 'the jewel of the North-West of England'. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the city is that within a very small area there is evidence of every period of history - from the old walls and amphitheatre of Roman times, through medieval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed townhouses and Georgian terraces, to Victorian restorations and 21st century architecture. The city has much to offer the tourist, including excellent shopping in and around the famous Tudor 'Rows' and lovely walks along the Roman Walls, beside the River Dee and through the picturesque Grosvenor Park. Explore Chester's beautiful medieval cathedral, visit Chester Racecourse or spend a day at the world renowned Chester Zoo. Further afield, the stunning Welsh mountains and coastline, the quaint market towns and villages of Cheshire and the Wirral Peninsula with its first class golf courses, are all within easy touring distance, whilst frequent rail services make Liverpool, Manchester and the North Wales coast readily accessible.
