  • "Great location for access to the beach and shops."

Lovely cottage, and do note as advertised, the stairs are steep and very narrow at the top. You will need to hold onto the rail. Has what you need, but just to note there are no temperature numbers for the grill or oven, so I ended up with a few burnt meals as didn’t know what I’d put it on. Ended up just using the gas hob. Didn’t go outside in the courtyard, as asked not to let my dog use it, so it was lots of trips to the green so she could have her comfort breaks.

  • "The cottage was extremely clean and bright."

Considering it is dog friendly I thought how clean it was. The TV broke on the Sunday so I telephoned the owner who was abroad at the time, he answered my call, explained he was abroad, but contacted the management team, who telephoned me to ask permission to come and install another TV. He actually turned up before lunch time on Monday morning, so very impressed by the efficiency. I will certainly come back.

  • "The house was comfortable and clean and generally as described."

However, the features section says ‘dog friendly and garden patio area’, but the summary goes on to say the following: ‘Small enclosed courtyard with furniture One well-behaved dog welcome’. The instructions at the property asks dog owners not to let dogs urinate in the courtyard. This is fine but this should appear in the description because as. Dog owner I would not have booked as we had to take the dog on a lead down the road. I understand that you might not want dogs to urinate in the courtyard, but be clearer about this in the description, because it does contradict my understanding of what a dog friendly house with a ‘garden patio’ area should be. If i had know this when booking I would have looked for an alternative property.

  • "I can only assume that the four tick rating by Sykes is based on location of the property, which is ideally situated in the centre of Aberdovey, however we have stayed in much better accommodation with the same rating and cost."

The property is in need of some TLC and update, particularly the arm chairs, some utensils, appliances and the utility area which is very tired and basic. The stairs may be a challenge for those less mobile/steady on their feet. We arrived at 3.15pm (check in 3pm) to find the cleaner had only just arrived due to a delay at her previous property and did not get in till after 5pm. Fortunately it was a nice afternoon but would not have been happy if it had been raining.

  • "The cottage is in a great location in Aberdyfer short walk from all amenities, overall the cottage is well kept and clean, although the bathroom needs a bit of attention, mould spots all over the ceiling and lower parts of the shower cubicle, no blind on bathroom window so my wife wouldn’t use the light and therefore the extractor fan when showering which could explain the mould, shower isn’t thermostatic so very easy to get it too hot or too cold."

Nice to have bread, butter and milk left by the owner. Lounge seating a bit uncomfortable, a blind is missing from small kitchen window. 2 bulbs need replacing. Couldn’t find the information folder anywhere but there were 2 departure sheets, one saying leave by 10am the other by 9.30am, one says fill dishwasher, the other leave it empty! No coat hangers in the small hall so nowhere to hang wet coats. Central heating worked well and so did the log burner. Beds comfy although single mattresses ready for changing, the mattress topper improved comfort and we slept well.

Handily placed to enjoy all that Aberdyfi has to offer and to explore the surrounding area. Cottage has all the facilities needed and the owners provided a very useful information pack covering the cottage facilities and places to go to visit and dine etc. Parking in the village is an issue and without the permit for the main car park would be a considerable additional expense. We were a two car party (having travelled from different areas) but luckily managed to grab a space up the hill for one car which is a bit of a lottery so left it there for the duration and used the other for getting out and about. Really enjoyed our stay and wouldnt hesitate to highly recommend this cottage.

Car park ticket was very useful and we didn’t mind leaving the car in the car park, it wasn’t far to walk. We loved Aberdovey. Also the welcome pack was a short. No tea and coffee, but milk??? Cleaning items were also in short supply.Otherwise we enjoyed Aberdo very.ĺ

We would remind our guest that he chose a self- catering holiday. We provide a Welcome Pack consisting of local bread, milk and butter which most guests appreciate. Usually there are spare tea bags left in the caddy. We were on holiday ourselves and it was entirely my fault that the mid-holiday bedding change had not been notified to our cleaners, but that was remedied within 24 hours. We are pleased that they enjoyed the rest of their holiday. Property Owner

  • "Stunning cottage perfectly positioned in a beautiful fishing village."

Absolutely loved this little cottage, 2 mins from Aberdovey seafront, harbour and beach. Very cosy with both central heating and a wood burner, has a good size fridge/freezer, full size oven, dishwasher and washing machine. Iron and hairdryer provided. Although compact it is more than adequate as a holiday cottage, the bathroom is very small but has a good hot shower, the only thing my husband struggled with was no mirror in front of the sink to shave (there is a mirror but on a different wall.) The rear yard is small and only got the sun in the morning when we were there, it did have a washing line which was great for drying bits whilst you were out for the day. No parking at the cottage but a permit is provided for the main car park and you can stop outside to unload. We had great weather when we were there, we walked the Roman Road, had fish and chips, sat on the beach and watched the sunset, walked up to the bandstand, got the train to Tywyn (not much there), walked the Panorama Walk on the ridge of the Happy Valley to the Bearded Lake, drove to the Dolgoch Falls, Dolgellau and Barmouth. Did the Wednesday market at Machynlleth then drove to Aberystwyth walked from the harbour round to the Cliff Railway and took a train up the mountain (amazing views) Also did a day to Aberaeron which is lovely. So many places to visit in a stunning part of Wales. We highly recommend this cottage and you certainly won’t be disappointed if you book a stay.

  • "Our holiday at Ty Gwyn was very pleasurable, the cottage is well equipped and comfortable."

The only negative comment to make is that the courtyard is not available to your dog to relieve itself. I had rang Sykes before the balance of the holiday was taken from the bank account to question this after reading a review which said the same. After Sykes had communicated with the owner we were told that there was not a problem, however, within the information pack it stated that the courtyard was not to be used by your dog as a toilet. There was also a notice on the back door leading to the courtyard stating the same. Our dog will not "go" on the lead so, therefore, it meant we were up and out, on the beach around 6 am every morning and also last thing at night. As it was our holiday it would have been nice to have later morning starts. It might be helpful if this information was given within the description of facilities as I don't think we would have booked this cottage had we known about this restriction.

For disabled or less mobile tourists it can be crucial as to whether the bathroom is on the same floor as the bedroom, and whether there is a toilet on the ground floor. We had to take a gamble and luckily it worked out OK. Ty Gwyn is very well refurbished with really careful attention to detail retaining much of the original character and atmosphere of the cottage - both stylish and relaxed. It is much bigger inside than it appears outside. It is well equipped and comfortable and the owners provided some essential supplies (milk, butter and bread) on our arrival which was very welcome. There is also a parking permit for use at various carparks in the region, which was very useful. The wi-fi has a strong signal. The owners provide a very practical guide to the cottage with clear instructions on every aspect of the stay, as well as useful information about local services and amenities. Copperhill Street itself is rather noisy, but also within easy walking distance to the whole town, harbour and beach.
