  • "At a premium price of £1587 for the week, we expected this property to reach the highest standards but were disappointed in many areas: Told in advance that no washing machine but there was one marked 'out of order' so why was it not repaired or replaced?"

One of the toilets was unclean when we arrived. This was reported to the owner by our daughter who was the first to arrive. Most opening windows were locked closed so that natural ventilation was impossible, especially in the bedrooms. The Japanese bathroom was better described as a tub in a cupboard and could be used by only the most agile and a potential hazard for the less able. There was no other bath. The electric towel rail did not work. The shower had a very slippery floor and we had to buy a non-slip mat before it could be used safely. The only form of heat in the house was a small electric towel rail in the downstairs toilet. Lack of heat to dry towels etc was mentioned to the owner who switched on the gas central heating for one session. The motion sensor lighting in the shower room was erratic and there was no over-riding switch. Single bult lighting in the dining room was inadequate. There were no useful surfaces in the main bedroom apart from two small side tables. Narrow window ledges were inadequate. We never 'overloaded' the house: there were five people the first four days and three for the next two days. We left for home a day early.

  • "Ty Melyn is a lovely house."

It was exactly what we needed for our son’s wedding and had the benefit of being very spacious. The quality of furniture and fittings was very good, as was the decor and general cleanliness. We appreciated the goodies on the dining table. Thank you. Thank you also to the owner who kindly put the heat on, as the evenings were unusually cold for mid June and my Mum (who had come from a Care home) was finding it chilly. A suggestion, if I may - a stair rail as you turn the corner after the landing would be additionally helpful. Overall though, it was a great place to stay and if we are a big group again, we would return. Thank you.

  • "We had a wonderful weeks holiday."

the only snag was on the first night it got quite chilly so we tried to put the electric fire on which didn,t work so we tried to turn thermostat which also didn,t work. I rang the owner who said the fire was only for decoration. So I asked about central heating and his reply was he could turn it on via his phone. He did turn it on but I had to ring again the night after and ask him again to put it on. I asked him to leave it on for the duration of the holiday. If you are paying a weeks rent you shouldn,t have to ask for heating. We have been renting cottages for over 40 years and have never come across this.Thanking You

  • "There were 8 adults in our party and there was plenty of space for all of us."

All of the bedrooms were a decent size and all had some kind of storage for clothes which was really good. The property was neat, tidy and very clean. The kitchen was probably the best equipped I have seen and we like to cook whilst away so that was great. Do not understand though, why there are so many TVs but no hairdryer? After the weekend, some of our party went home and left 4 adults. Don’t think we could have coped for the week with one shower if all 8 of us had stayed. The dipping tub is a novelty which my daughter in law who is tiny quite enjoyed but would be much better with another shower. Property owner was very helpful and responded immediately when I rang to say we were a bit cold by turning the heating up a bit. Found the downstairs to be colder than the upstairs. Front bedrooms are a bit noisy because of road proximity and the fact there are lots of students back and forth. The automatic lights on the landing and in the bathroom did everyone’s head in. Every time anyone went to the loo in the night, light flashes around the edges of the doors and you end up thoroughly woken up. Apart from these nibbles, it’s a lovely property and is in a good situation, being easy walking distance from the town.

Thank you for your honest review however in our response I would like to say that it is a known fact that heat rises ( that s why upstairs is warmer ). The lights being automatic would not have a different affect on lights shining to a regular switch light when switched on . The Japanese bath is in place after a lot of consideration we were going to put another shower in but unfortunately the room is too narrow & would mean bricking up the window! I take on board the request for a hair dryer which we will purchase. Thank you for staying with us /Diolch yn fawr. Property Owner

Thoughtfully, comfortably and generously appointed. The location is perfect for town, and with easy parking. Arrangements for key collection were simple and secure. On the edge of the nature reserve also means lots of garden birds / small bird song and no seagulls - lovely! We had a really nice week, thank you very much for the use of your home

The house was close enough to be able to walk into town yet far enough away from the centre to have privacy from the busy town life. We would love to return.

  • "Ty Melyn is a lovely house, well decorated and spotlessly clean."

Everything you need is in the house. We appreciated little extras like washing up liquid and a tea towel as we were only on a short stay. I would say that the house is probably not great if you have impaired mobility, it is on a hill and the garden is pretty steep , it is also a reasonable walk to the sea and the way back is all up hill. I would recommend it though it’s a lovely house in a quirky little seaside town and great for a stay. We had no complaints

  • "This is a lovely house which is extremely well equipped."

We did have to purchase a bottle opener, but everything else had been thought of. The gardens are beautiful but some extra garden furniture would be a bonus. The wooden table at the top of the drive is unlikely to be used in its present position I feel. Fabulous position makes walking everywhere in Aberystwyth so easy. Grandchildren loved the games provided.

Apologies for no bottle opener available during your stay. There was one there previously however it is difficult to check every item between visitors. Very pleased you enjoyed your stay & that the children enjoyed the barod games that were ours during our childhood. Thank you . Property Owner
