  • "A beautifully appointed lodge with luxurious touches and attention to detail."

The views are fabulous and we enjoyed spotting the various bird life in the field opposite and feeding the resident robin from the patio doors. The owners have truly embraced what it feels like to stay in a luxury holiday home and went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and pampered. The lodge was perfect for our stay and the area and surrounds were tranquil and peaceful, just what we needed from a holiday.

Well-equipped and comfy. Slightly confusing on arrival that the microwave is under-the-counter and the mini-oven looks like a microwave!

1 The Lodge and it did not disappoint. Very spacious and set in its own private grounds, it’s a lovely place to just sit and relax. The owners were very attentive to our comforts providing us with extra comfy chairs and of course a bottle of bubbly on our arrival. Highly recommended and still our favourite holiday accommodation.

The owners Chad, Fran and Joy were welcoming and friendly and on hand if needed. The inside is spacious and was really comfortable and spotlessly clean. The outside area felt secluded and private and the garden furniture and BBQ were clean and we made the most of the outside space. Evenings by the chimenea watching the great variety of birds were a real treat. The mix of modern living in a secluded rural setting is a real treat and we had a lovely stay at the Lodge

  • "The lodge and its surroundings were lovely."

It was clean to a standard that many holiday places are not. The facilities were good quality, not too many, just right for a couple staying. Having a bath and a shower was perfect! The meadows and paths were beautiful kept. A tiny bit of traffic noise but nothing that disturbed us. A good sense of seclusion all round. There was help available if needed, but otherwise we were left alone which was appreciated too. All very nicely done. Thank you.

1 The Lodge. Accommodation comfortable and great to unwind when outside watching the birds/wildlife/stars. We also explored the unspoilt Montgomery, Welshpool, Clun, Ludford and Shrewsbury from this base. Bishops Castle nearest Town about 3 miles away but had a Co-op which we used daily, Castle pub, independent shops and a Petrol station. Owners, Chad, Francis & Joy were very friendly and helpful.

  • "An absolute gem."

We've been using Sykes for many years and stayed in some excellent accommodation but No.1 The Lodge would probably now be top my list. It could be that I was very ready for a 'get away from it all' experience but then again it could be the very pleasant and welcoming hosts (right balance of help/privacy), the immaculate spacious facilities, the setting in its own grounds, the large glass patio doors opening out onto nature, the outdoor opportunities for al fresco living and the location in the AONB Shropshire hills. Highly recommended.

The lodge is set in such a peaceful location, so it was easy to switch off for the weekend, but still within easy access of local amenities. The setting is gorgeous and can’t be justified by pictures alone- we loved it. The owners were so lovely and welcoming and it is clear to see the care and attention they have put in to the finish and decoration of the lodge. They had left us some milk, orange juice and a bottle of bubbly and explained everything we needed to know as we arrived, but had also contacted us beforehand with helpful information on how to find them which was really appreciated. Also to note, the bed is huge and so comfy! Thank you!

  • "We have stayed in a number of cottages over the years, but I have to say that our stay here was without doubt THE perfect break that we have always been looking for!"

The most wonderful hosts you could ever wish to meet, made us feel completely at ease and extremely welcome. As for the cottage itself, we have never found our all perfect cottage, until we came across this beautiful and idyllic place. Perfectly set within a wooded area, looking out onto hilly forests and mature trees. But our delight was in the particular wildflower area directly outside our lodge. With the serenity and the beauty of the wildlife that it attracted was truly a most beautiful source of much needed relaxation to us both. We spent the majority of our evenings sitting outside in front of the chimnea having drinks and listening to the wildlife until the early hours. We have never experienced or enjoyed a holiday so peaceful and relaxing as this, and we didn’t realise how much we needed to until we got here! We cannot recommend this lodge highly enough, especially for people wanting to recharge and get away from it all! We most definitely will return and look forward to it!

The outside sitting area was very pleasant, private and restful. All well appointed and excellently maintained. The bed, shower and heating system most particularly convenient and comfortable for someone recovering from major surgery. Even the 4 outside steps were manageable both back and front. The single last one at the end of the path less so as there is no rail. Owners were helpful and accommodating. But, finding out how some of the appliances worked, was baffling. Particularly the TV. Watched Netflix mainly. More storage in the bedroom would be useful. There is room for it. Also, a teapot for two people. We made our tea in a saucepan!

Perfect lodge! On arrival Joy and Francis were there to greet us. They are both extremely friendly and helpful. We were blown away by the standard of the accommodation. We had Prosecco in the fridge along with milk, olives, coffee and chocolate. We had shopped en route and prepared a simple supper and sat in the garden. We had a walk around the grounds and then slept soundly in the very comfy bed.
Saturday we went into Bishops Castle and had lunch at the Chai shop. Tina is an amazing host and very good Indian cook. We also had a drink in the oldest licensed brewery in England.
The local walks are great and easy to walk the area around the lodge. The local vineyard in Montgomery is lovely, tasted wine and had lunch.
The lodge is in a very central position for lots of activities. Both Francis and Joy recommend Kerrys ridge which had amazing views.

The cottage completely satisfied our needs. It is very private being lost in the surrounding garden, meadow and woodland-even though the owners are only 40 met. away. Very quiet so plenty of wildlife which the owners have encouraged by their planting (birds, butterflies, moths at this time of year). Plenty to do on your doorstep if you like walking and old villages. Good places to eat nearby, especially Bishops Castle. An excellent place to get away from it all. John

Lovely walking around the grounds of woodland and wild flower meadows early morning / late evening with a background of birdsong. Watching the sunset behind the wooded hills noshing on toasted marshmallows around the fire pit. Good wifi if you do decide to turn a screen on, super comfy bed, nice bathroom and more than adequate kitchen for the four nights we stayed. Lovely to just get the supplies needed and stay put awhile but plenty of local walks, village pubs/cafes/supermarkets and curio shops just a short drive away.
