  • "After reading some recent reviews I was beginning to worry about or 4 night stay."

However the lodge was lovely; great size for me, husband, 3 teens and 2 small dogs. Yes, I agree with previous reviews - the double bed mattress needs an upgrade, it’s extremely basic and not very comfortable. We loved the hot tub being under cover. It was set at 37 degrees and ready when we arrived. Loved how peaceful it was, hardly saw a soul when we’d walk the dogs. Gorgeous view. Big bathroom. Very clean and tidy on arrival and appreciated the info pack regarding recycling and things to do in the local area.

  • "Property itself was exactly what we wanted lovely little lodge in next to no where."

The view was lovely, all the things you could need, oven, kettle, hot tub! Downsides, im a big bloke and the mattress wasnt the nicest. We was having a relaxing day in but maintenance work next to our lodge ruined that. I understand jobs need to be done but look at your bookings, try and plan when people arent on a relaxing break. Sound of a petrol strimmer for 4 hours isnt really 'chill'. The road to the lodges needs a little tlc, bit bouncy. The negatives been said how ever, we would probably return, id just sleep in the hot tub.

Thanks for your feedback. Truly sorry about the maintenance work, it's difficult to organise when you're constantly open, but will definitely take this into consideration. Hope to see you return. Property Owner

  • "We had a great week away at Hillside view."

The location is great, a short drive from Rhayader which has lovely places to eat and lots of great walks in that area. It is a very peaceful site with lovely views of surrounding countryside. The lodge was a good size and plenty of space for 3 of us and our 2 dogs. The heating worked well and it was nice and cozy. The hot tub made the week, although was not very hot when we arrived however once we figured out how to increase the temperature it was wonderful. The lodge is equipped with basics but may be worth noting you need to take things like salt n pepper, coffee, tea etc and soap for the bathroom as nothing is provided. On the whole it is a great place to stay however there were a few things that could do with maintenance or updating as follows; The double bed was not comfortable, you could feel the springs, it could do with a new mattress, my Mum stated the single beds were comfortable though. There is nowhere in the bathroom to put toiletries and appears as if there was something in the shower for this but it had broken. There are only 4 chairs outside and the lodge is for 6. There was only 3 of is so it was no problem for us however it would also have been nice to have cushions for them as they are not comfortable to sit out on for longer periods. There is no cleaning products and only a tall brush and dustpan and brush. The hot tub lid was tricky to get on and off and took two of us to do it, we think there was a bit broken that it should have rested on and would maybe have made it easier. There was also one seat in it that did not have jets working and the lights did not work either. The TV and WiFi was poor but we expected that might be the case in the countryside. These are all little things really and it just needs a bit of maintenance however on the whole we had a lovely time and we and the dogs really enjoyed the stay.

Thanks for your feedback James. We hope you enjoyed your stay. It is a self catering holiday hence why there isn't any tea, coffee etc but we will definitely take this into consideration. Thanks for letting us know about the double bed mattress, this has now been resolved. We are in the middle of sorting the intermittent WIFI. Thanks Property Owner

  • "Absolute lovely place."

The lodges look amazing. Shame I got the runt! There is an amazing view of the hills, but the unkempt 16ft hedge does a great job of blocking it completely. The lodge and hot tub were probably amazing when they were built 20 years ago, but they have not been touched since. We did have a great holiday but the lodge was not worth the cost. Ok if you want basic.

  • "The property was a great stay, we had a lovely holiday and did not want to leave."

All basic kitchen necessities were provided. Hot tub was a great. Outside garden was lovely, only we did not enjoy it that unfortunately as the sun did not shine that much during our stay. Would only suggest to add maybe a curtain on the glass door by the kitchen as we did not feel private enough. Although the property was surrounded by bushes we felt this was not enough. Overall, we had a great stay and would love to go back with other family.

  • "Overall nice stay as the location was convenient, pretty surroundings, hot tub shielded from the rain, very private, big garden, kept clean with comfy sofas."

However, the ‘hillside view’ is completely blocked by the tall hedge, the WiFi is practically unusable and you can’t connect your own devices to it, the seemingly old spring mattresses are very uncomfortable, there’s lots of flies (albeit fly spray is provided) and the road leading up to the cabin is very uneven. The cabin itself is nice and it’s great that the hot tub is covered but I don’t think I’d stay here again in light of the uncomfortable beds, blocked view & lacking WiFi.

  • "In a word, disappointing."

The only ‘frill’ with this property is the hot tub. The ‘View’ in the name is not visible thanks to the lack of landscaping that has been done - the hedge at the bottom of the lawn area restricts the view. The satellite part of the TV didn’t work - this was reported and I was told to ‘Use the Smart TV apps and watch live TV there’, which worked until the WiFi went out. Both things were reported on the phone number, and I was told that they’d ‘look into the WiFi’… That was their resolution. The satellite TV issue was reported on Saturday, WiFi issue reported on Sunday, and the satellite cable issue was investigated and resolved on Monday, but the WiFi remained down for a further 2 days. Their customer service lacks any… service, frankly. Especially over a weekend. The email I sent went completely ignored. The mattresses all seem relatively well used, and not of particularly high quality - they’re sprung mattresses, and the springs are easy to feel. It made for quite the uncomfortable nights’ sleep. There are a few places where a lack of attention to detail makes the whole stay feel more budget than luxury - the key is collected in a letter envelope with a window - just the key, no “welcome” note; they didn’t supply hand soap in the bathroom, nor any toiletries, for that matter - a hand soap in the bathroom would be greatly appreciated; nor did they provide a small supply of tea or coffee and sugar - even if only 6 of each in a 6 berth property would be appreciated; the teapot in a property for 6 was large enough for 1.5 cups of tea - not particularly well thought out; there also wasn’t a hair dryer - not even one attached to the wall, which you’d see on many similar properties; there’s no full length mirror anywhere in the property; the curtains over the ‘patio’ doors don’t extend enough to cover the entire windows and doors (see photo); there is no park map provided, showing details of the walks that are supposedly available around the park for the dogs - the only park map is in the key collection room, which only shows the location of the property numbers. However, the location is excellent, and the almost-enclosed lawn area behind the lodge is excellent for the dogs, and the site seems dog friendly. With their permission, you can leave the dogs in the cabins. They supply plenty of dog poop bins around the park, which is good to see. It is really peaceful - you can mostly only hear animals and the other people on the site. There is a ‘dog wash station’ is a tap by the bins - no hose, just a tap. If you’re only using this place to cook, eat and sleep, it’s ideal. If you’re using this as a base for a holiday, I’d consider other local options - most are similarly priced and seem to offer most of what is missing here.

  • "My partner and I stayed at Hillside View from 23rd - 26th November when the temperature hit -2°, but when we arrived the heating was on and the lodge was lovely and warm for us."

The hot tub was the perfect addition in the cold weather, perfect for relaxing. The lodge itself was spacious, there was plenty of space in the kitchen, the bathroom was a great size with separate shower and bath, and plenty of hanging space for clothes. The only thing that was missing was a full length mirror! The view from the lodge in the morning was simply breath taking, and we discovered a bench at the top of the hill behind the lodge that provided even more incredible views. Our sat nav took us through the village roads on the way there, however, on the way back we discovered that we could have taken all A roads to the location, apart from the road leading up to the site, so if you are travelling here, make sure to check the route before travelling! The location was peaceful and quiet, and we even had 4 cats visit us who were super friendly (which was great as we are cat lovers)! There is a local Co-op down the road and Tesco about 15 minutes away, so there are great facilities close by for anything you need. We were looking for a relaxing weekend break and that is exactly what we got. We had a great stay, and whether you are a couple or a family, we highly recommend staying here.

Thanks for your lovely feedback, we hope to see you in the near future. We will look into the full length mirror, we appreciate your comment. Thanks Property Owner

Yes the lodge is a looking a little tired but it was just what we needed. It was immaculately clean. And had all the equipment needed in the kitchen. There were plenty of towels however I would recommend taking spares for the hot tub. We stayed in lodge 9 which was perfect with a dog as the garden was fairly enclosed. There is a dog gate on the balcony which was perfect for leaving the doors open so our cocker spaniel didn’t go walk about. The hot tub was perfect and even better it has a roof so you don’t have to worry about the rain. The hot tub lid had seen better days but it did the job. All in all I would definitely revisit this little gem.

  • "There are about 14 lodges on this site, and over the last 15 years when it opened with the first four we have stayed in almost all of them."

This is the third owner ( You now never meet anyone on the site from the minute you arrive to leaving, picking up a key off a desk) and the point I want to make is the lodges and site are really now tired. Three examples, the curtains are original and numerous examples of not hanging/closing correctly. Lid on hot tub completely off its hinges almost impossible to remove. Bed mattresses are sub standard. Numerous doors do not close correctly. I could go on but the point is that the lodges are so tired they are now not value for money. There is a lot more competition in the area and judging by the number that were vacant the repeat business has declined. We love the area but will not be returning to this site.

Truly sorry that you feel this way about the site. You pick up the keys in reception so that you don't meet anyone for Covid reasons. If there was a problem somebody would come to see you. This is how we've done it since Covid and we've had no complaints. Sorry if this was an inconvenience for yourselves. The hot tub lids are being used several times a day and some people choose not to respect them hence the issue you were having with the lid. Once they are impossible to move we obviously change them and has been done now. The site is always busy. Thanks for your feedback and we will take into consideration. Property Owner
