"A lovely property, very well appointed, great underfloor heating and well maintained."
The hosts, Steve and Louise, were very attentive and provided a much appreciated welcome pack. Our only minor gripe was the lack of a dryer. We arrived on the back of Storm Darragh which meant a lot of mud everywhere we went with our two large dogs but, we still had plenty of exercise and enjoyed the hospitality of Clun and Bishops Castle. The wildlife is a little more restricted in winter but we spotted a number of red kite and buzzards and relaxed to the wonderful sound of the owls in the woods at night. We would recommend The Larches without any hesitation.

"Fantastic place to stay."
This was our second visit and every bit as enjoyable as our first. Peace and seclusion, what more could you want? Lovely couple so friendly and ready to help if required. The garden is securely enclosed and was perfectly safe for our little dog Colin.

"Fabulous cottage."
Very modern and clean. Great location. Very quiet and secluded. Very secure garden for dogs. Loved the area. Owners very helpful and friendly. Would like to go back again.

"We could not have asked for a better stay."
The property was better than the pictures show. Beautiful place set in beautiful grounds. The owners were lovely as well. This will most definitely sit on our favourites list to visit again. We simply did not want to return to the real world. Very sad to leave.

"5* accommodation, spotlessly clean with all the comforts of home."
Very warm and cosy. Very secluded on the edge of a forest with a fantastic secure garden which our dogs loved (chihuahuas). The owners live close by and call in to introduce themselves and check everything is ok, Steve was very knowledgeable about the local area and wildlife. We had a wonderful week and will be back.

"We really enjoyed our stay at the larches well fenced off for my 2 dogs 2 run around."
Highly recommended to anybody staying here with your dog

"First we would like to thank Stevie and Louise for the lovely starter pack."
The bed was very comfortable and neighbours were very friendly when you see them. Quite remote but very peaceful. The only suggestion I would make is if ladies have long dresses it needs a different type of hanging facilities, clothes hangers not suitable for long dresses. Dog enjoyed the garden very secure. Would definitely recommend.

"Superb holiday cottage in the woods everything as described and perfect for our family holiday and our dog."
We had a small problem with the heating which the owners immediately responded to. Lovely owners who were so helpful and welcoming. Welcome pack appreciated . Many thanks

"Lovely property in a wonderful setting."
Lodge had everything we needed, was clean & well maintained. Outside space is stunning and garden is dog proof as long as you don't have a jumper. Lots of wildlife to watch as you sit outside and relax. We had a great stay and as we love that area, are likely to look to stay again in future.

"Great stay again."
Everything we could need was provided. Thankyou

"If you're looking for somewhere to totally relax, but has enough interesting places to visit with a relatively short distance, The Larches ticks all the boxes!"
A fabulous week in this property, very quiet and very well appointed throughout, everything we needed for a week chilling out. Property was spotless and the grounds also clean, owners easily contactable and called in early on to make sure all was in order.
-
"Beautifully modern cottage set in a quiet peaceful area."
We loved our stay, everything you need has been thought of. Bed is comfy, shower is good and most of all the view is amazing. The 2 dogs loved the freedom of the outside area. A very relaxing stay.

Very well maintained in last 10 months and location remains perfect

"Wow, what a find, the property is situated in its own woodland, a perfect place to relax."
It’s modern and very tastefully decorated, we couldn't have asked for anything better. We were surrounded by beautiful countryside made even better by the brilliant weather we had. It was very dog friendly and our little Westie loved the freedom of the large garden. The owners came to see us when we first arrived, so it was nice to meet them. Would love to visit again as we think the scenery in the fall would be spectacular.

"A lovely modern cottage."
Clean. Everything we could have wished for. It was lovely to have a washing machine with persil left in case we decided to do some washing. Toilet paper, foil, sugar, tea bags, cooking oil, dishwasher tablets, hand soap, washing up liquid etc all little things but helped altogether to make it a relaxing stress free stay. Pleased we booked.

We would happily stay here again

"The house is beautiful, clean and well maintained and everything was as listed."
We arrived to a warm and clean home, with everything we needed for a relaxing weekend break. There was a bottle of Wine and Welsh cakes waiting for us, along with tea, coffee and sugar. It's really helpful having things like cleaning supplies, toilet roll and foil in the cupboards. We always bring our own as most home don't supply them, and always comment on the homes that do-these little extra touches don't go unnoticed. Our two dogs enjoyed exploring the grounds, which were fenced off so they couldn't get out-they even have dog bowls and a cleaning area for pets. Every little thing is thought of and catered for. We gave 5* and top scores in all areas, for a perfect stay in a beautiful area. Thank you Steve and Louise for making our weekend break so easy! Your hard work and attention to detail shows in the beautiful, inviting home you keep. Sarah, Russ and the pooches Cobi and Buckley.

"The Larches is perfectly located in a rural woodland setting."
It is warm, cosy and the decor is tasteful. It has everything you need for a relaxing, self catering holiday. I went Christmas week, the weather was not good but I was happy to stay in and enjoy the view of the tall woodland trees swaying in the gusting wind. The house would be perfect for any season. Also, the owners are lovely and helpful.

"Outstanding peaceful retreat."
Perfect for our dogs. So remote which is what we wanted. Loads of lovely walks all around. Will recommended to others but not before we have rebooked for ourselves first!
-

"Lovely property with excellent amenities."
Beautiful surrounding areas and lots to see locally. We even nipped to Wales and the coastal area.. will love to come back at a later date!

"An outstanding new build house in a very peaceful, almost isolated, wooded location."
Very private, the silence truly is golden and a very welcome retreat from the normal hustle and bustle. The owners have created a very well considered property which is well equipped. Do make sure visit the amazing Stokesay Castle (really a fortified Manor House) and Powis Castle and its superb gardens.

"Larches is an exceptional property beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, great shower very comfortable and has everything needed for a great stay."
Its also extremely peaceful, secluded and very relaxing. The owners Steve and Louise left out a lovely welcome pack on arrival which was much appreciated they were very accommodating and helpful so much so that we left belongings behind and they are sending them on to us nothing was too much trouble. Amazing place well worth a visit.

About the location
CLUN
Bishop's Castle 6 miles; Ludlow 18 miles.
A.E. Houseman's poem, A Shropshire Lad, defined Clun as 'the quietest place under the sun', and with its dramatic ruin of a Norman castle, Saxon church, the bustling river which flows under the 14th century pack horse bridge, and a country inn, Clun is a rural gem situated in the South Shropshire Hills. It lies on the Shropshire Way in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to the border of Wales, an area known as The Marches. This unspoilt part of Britain has an abundance of wildlife and beautiful unhindered walking and cycling routes winding their way through the countryside with the Clun and Kerry Forests, Offa's Dyke, and Kerry Ridgeway all close by. There are a wide range of festivals and shows on offer in the surrounding area throughout the year, including The Green Man festival in May. From Clun, you can also enjoy exploring the historic towns of Bishop's Castle, Presteigne, Ludlow, Shrewsbury, and Hereford, a must for visitors.
