Upstairs bedroom and en suite very spacious. Owners Joan and Richard very friendly and helpful. From the description it wasn’t clear that the pub garden came up to our front door with seating for drinkers right outside so it wasn’t very private.

The area is picturesque and quiet with easy access to tourist attractions and numerous supermarkets. Joan was an exceptional host and landlady of the Red Lion Inn which was next to the cottage. The local residents were all welcoming and friendly. The cottage was within easy access to Powis Castle and the Llanfair Steam Railway both of which we enjoyed.

  • "First of all the booking process was straightforward and the description accurate."

In fact if anything the pictures did not do justice to the accommodation. The cottage is attached (it's a wing) to the village pub. It was NOT noisy and the pub very friendly. Thank you Rachel and Stu. Joan runs the accommodation and couldn't be more helpful and friendly. The cottage can accommodate up to 4 but we were just 2 (myself and my wife) which meant the space was both generous and perfect. The upstair bedroom was fabulous. If you're looking for a party and nightlife this, possibly, isn't for you (albeit you have a friendly pub). We like hiking, scenery, nature, history, cutlure, a pub and nightlife. 6 out of 7 is better than pretty good. The test is always would you look forward to going back? The answer's yes.

  • "This is a lovely cottage of excellent standards, with everything you would need."

A good layout for either a family or 2 couples with facilities upstairs and down. Set in a good location for exploring the area Powis Castle (NT) is only a 10 - 15 minute drive and worth a visit just to explore the beautiful gardens. Joan and Richard were the perfect hosts nothing was too much for them, they offered advice on local attractions and made you feel very welcome. Joan's home cooking in the Pub next door is both tasty and plentiful not to be missed. The Pub was an ideal place to relax after a day exploring, Stu the Landlord and the local villages made you feel at home, they would include you in conversation and ask how your day was. The setting was very peaceful and although next to the Pub you would not know it whilst in and around the cottage. This was our first visit to this cottage but will not be the last we will definitely return in the near future.

It was clean, homely and extremely comfortable. The hosts Joan and Richard could not do enough for you and went out if their way to make you feel welcome and to be part of the community. The locals from day one were welcoming and again made you welcomed into their community. I would definitely look to stay at the cottage again. The cottage and the hosts I would introduce to friends should I ever be asked to recommend a place to stay. Finally Joan provided meal on some of the evenings which were plentiful and good home cooking. Again I would recommend to anyone staying in the cottage to try Joan’s food they will not be disappointed.

We did not cook much in the cottage as The Red Lion Pub next door was brilliant, the food Joan made for us was very good and lots of it at a very reasonable price as were the drinks. Joan and Richard could not have been better hosts, they both work very hard to make everyone welcome. They made you feel like a friend in their home rather than a guest. The bed was so comfortable and the shower room was huge and it was all nicely decorated. The villagers all made us very welcome too and we had a good laugh each night. We were given advice on where to visit and how to get there by either Joan, Richard, Dave, Darren or any of the other villagers. The little shop opposite has a good variety of goods and the owner Michael is also very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and hope to visit again in the future as it is a great base to visit the many places near by.

Nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was very comfortable, warm, clean and everything that we needed was provided. The upstairs bedroom was very large with a comfortable king sized bed and large en-suite. Joan and the villagers made us feel very welcome when we went in the pub and the meals were very good, especially the apple pie! The local shop is also well worth a visit and the owner, Michael, is also very friendly. We were visiting the Great Little Trains of Wales and Yew Tree Cottage was the perfect base, just an hour and a half from most of the stations through the stunning Snowdonia National Park. We would certainly book Yew Tree Cottage if we were visiting the area in the future. Thank you Joan.
