• "Just had 9 nights here."

  A very peaceful and secluded spot to relax in. I'm going to start with the negatives first. I've done this as these were things that set the tone for the rest of our stay. I hope the owners take this as a constructive offering as this place has the capacity to be better than it currently is. First! Please don't say on the description that there will be a starter pack for the log burner and not supply one. The cottage was understandably cold on the first evening and the nearest supply point for wood is 8 miles away. When you arrive late on a Saturday, expecting to find supplies, it can be a bit disheartening. Toilet roll. There was half a roll of "economy" toilet roll in the property. I'm not suggesting that it should be stocked like Tesco, but it might be nice if there were at least one full roll. The grill pan doesn't fit the grill - it's too small ! It may have been replaced at some point but please make sure it will sit in its rails! The information manual needs a little update. The instructions for the log burner don't match what's there! It's actually really easy to use! Some simple instructions for the TV remotes would help. 3 remotes for one screen is a bit confusing. We figured it after a day or so but a little help would have been appreciated. Last. The downstairs bedroom smells of damp. The room ( like the rest of the cottage ) was clean upon arrival, but there is evidence of damp in the wardrobes. If these things can be sorted, then it will move up from average to very good. Now some positives! It's very, very quiet!! The kitchen is pretty well equipped and crockery and microwave all looked new. Great fridge / freezer! Bathroom is pleasant and the beds are comfy with good quality bedding. The views over the river are wonderful and the patio area will be superb when the weather is right. When lit, the log burner gives off an amazing amount of heat and logs last several hours if the flue is kept almost closed. The coffee shop / cafe / corner shop which is opposite the pub is a wonderful little place with friendly staff and worth going in more than once. Can't comment on the pub as it was closed during the Christmas week but there seem to be favourable reviews on line. Would we go back? Yes, if the little glitches are sorted. Dave & Karen

  Good Evening, Firstly we are glad overall you enjoyed your stay, we personally love the cottage and always enjoy the views and tranquility. Thank you also for your feedback, good or bad it’s always appreciated as we can look to address. Starter Pack - We can only apologies there should have been a pack made available, because of your feedback our cleaning team have informed us we have run out, this is unfortunate as we should have been informed by cleaners we were getting low. This has been addressed. Toilet Roll’s - we tend to use lighter weight toilet rolls as there has been a tendency for blockages, that said there should have ample toilet rolls, we will discuss with our cleaners. Grill pan - I will look at that in a few weeks as sounds like it’s been swapped without our knowledge. Information manual - I have removed the kitchen log burner instructions today to save confusion. We are planning to refurbish the kitchen over the next few months and will be removing the downstairs log burner and modernising the whole kitchen area and providing ample ventilation. TV remotes I will look at that, normally it’s just the Sky remote and the Roku. The Sony remote is mainly for the DVD player but also can control TV. I will look to add to the instructions. Downstairs bedroom - signs of damp. We will investigate and address. We have toyed with removing all the cupboards and going more freestanding to allow for more airflow. As you can imagine with a property of this age, it’s a constant battle that we try to keep on top of.   Pros: - beautiful views - lots of character - nice location - nice wood burner - lovely bathroom - outdoor garden seating - peaceful - local cafe/shop good (shame it's not dog friendly) - good access to local walk - internet speed for streaming etc - Short drive to a small town with everything needed Cons: - lots of mould downstairs - wardrobes unusable due to mould - mattresses are extremely soft and caused back pain - parking, but can't be helped, just need to be aware of

• "The property is in the most gorgeous setting and the views are wonderful."

  Sitting out on the patio wrapped up all cosy in those very comfortable chairs will be a fond memory of mine forever now. We were lucky to have experienced the fighter jets fly through the valley while we were sitting out. The property is very comfortable and you can tell that a lot of love and work is being put into it. We loved having the log burner on and getting cosy. The kitchen is equipped well enough. The bathroom is lovely. You could spend ages on that loo looking out at the views! Lol We never had issues with parking on the street but if you bring a lot of stuff with you be mindful that you'll have to carry it all a bit of a way down to the property. Tip: have a little torch with you if it's dark. Now for the not so good... There are some issues but it's an old house and to be expected I think. As we entered the property on first arrival there was an overwhelming smell of damp and there is some damp in the bedroom wardrobe. (I purchased a condensation thing from home bargains and left it in there to help). Unfortunately also on arrival it seemed that the property had not been fully cleaned. The beds were clean and changed but all the surfaces hadn't been done and were dirty & dusty and it hadn't been hoovered. Sykes took so long getting back to me about this and not very nice when they did and I didn't want to spoil my trip so I gave up and bought a broom and cleaning wipes and sorted it all myself. That aside, I really thought the property was wonderful and I would definitely book again.

• "The cottage is in a fantastic location and well set out."

  It was a bit cobwebby and dusty in places but hey you should see my house ! But it was the end of the season and I am really not complaining. A little more signage of the property may be beneficial as it was slightly difficult to find. I really could have done with a broom as our dog tended to bring bits and bobs in on her paws.we cannot express how much we loved the property and did not want to leave (we did think about changing the locks and squatting), however we took the sensible approach and booked another week in September 2025. We were in awe of the surroundings and the jets on the loop, and The Cross Foxes. Can’t wait until next year .

• "We stayed here for a week last year and decided to come back because we enjoyed it."

  There has been two very good improvements since our last stay which is the bathroom it’s now beautiful new shower room ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ For that, And the WiFi another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ massive improvement. However the mattress had been changed in the main double bed ⭐️ which I found to be extremely uncomfortable my body ached for most of the morning after getting up ! The place was very clean and tidy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The parasol was very small which we had difficulty shading from the sun on the loungers could be bigger. Would I stay there again ? Only if they have a better more comfortable bed !! After all, almost a third of our time was spent sleeping in the bed

• "A comfortable cottage in a beautiful spot."

  We did enjoy our stay. Just one real issue for us: the cafetiere which you can see in the photos of the kitchen is no longer there, so the espresso maker is the only way to make coffee and there is no teapot either.

• "We stayed at the cottage for a week in May and had an amazing time."

  The location is spectacular and the cottage is so cosy with everything you need. We were lucky to have blue skies and sun the first few days and enjoyed afternoons on the deck and dinner in the sun. Then rainier days enjoyed cosy evenings on the sofa. The location was perfect and short drives to some amazing walks with waterfalls. We will definitely be returning.

• "A lovely, warm, quiet, comfortable cottage with fantastic views of the river."

  Wood burner appreciated. Kitchen well equipped and stocked with basics. The shop is two minutes walk, pub over the road. If it hadn’t rained for our whole week’s stay, the garden/balcony would be ideal. So we were very grateful for Sky tv! Great walks around. Highly recommend! Hope to return.

  The cottage is well equipped and very tastefully decorated, with a log burner making it extra cosy. Loved the peace and quiet, perfect get away. Would also recommend the local pub, really friendly locals with a great atmosphere, check opening times.

  The cottage is clean and spacious. The deck with views over the river and valley are fantastic Really large private outdoor space. Great location for out-door activities with some great trails, mountains and pubs within easy proximity. The local shop, leading the way with sustainability - would highly recommend this

• "Stayed at the property a few years ago, and was managed locally it’s been nicely decorated since, shame the shower hasn’t been upgraded though."

  It’s ideally located in peace and tranquility and in a lovely part of the UK. Still awaiting a response with regards to a spillage which caused minor damage, the communication from Sykes has been awful. I have a couple more bookings through Sykes which I’m now rethinking which has put a real negative on the stay.

• "The property was exactly what was described in the add."

  The view point from the patio area was so beautiful and peaceful. The only downside to the outside area was there was no shade, desperately needs a large parasol if you’re lucky enough to have the weather that we had ! It could also give shelter from the rain, as it would be just as beautiful in the rain. It was I little awkward walking through peoples gated gardens to get to the property.. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Well worth visiting this property.

• "Having just spent an amazing 7 days at Penygeulan, It looks like the owners have been busy over the winter, as some of the photo's are now out of date, there is a new fireplace and Log Burner in the Living room and the upstairs bedroom has had a really nice makeover."

  We will certainly recommend this to our friends and would love to get back in the summer months to be able to relax on the terrace. The outside space and terrace is stunning, with an amazing view of the valley and the sound of the river, also the added bonus of being on the "Mach Loop" we had the pleasure of watching the fast jets through the valley on two of the days, seeing the new F35's in action was breath taking.

• "We left a letter for the owners how we fell in love with their property and it showed all the hard work and tlc they have put in."

  We highly recommend Pengeulan it is in a superb location overlooking the river, great for wildlife and bird spotting, saw our first kingfisher. Stunning mountains too , also on the mach loop so saw a few aircraft on our own viewing veranda ! Lovely to sit out on and listen to the river bubbling

• "We had a wonderful stay at your beautiful cottage."

  Parking was an issue at times. There were no waste baskets in any of the rooms. When we arrived at 14.50 the cleaners were in and said they would not be ready for another hour. They let us leave our luggage whilst we went food shopping in a nearby town. The setting and location are beautiful

• "We had a lovely, restful holiday at Pen Y Guelan."

  It is in a great location with a gorgeous view. The river is fascinating to watch with a wealth of wildlife visiting.We had to keep the field glasses handy at all times so we didn’t miss anything-very distracting when cooking and eating !The cottage is well- equipped and the weather was good enough for us to sit on the terrace at times. It’s clear that the owners have worked hard to make the most of this special place. The local shop and pub are very convenient and we found Cemmaes a friendly place. It is a beautiful area and we enjoyed some great walks. The Osprey Dyfi Centre is a must !

• "We had a wonderful half term break to Penygeulen."

  The cottage is in a beautiful location with the most stunning views from every window in the house of the River Dyfi. The terrace is beautifully done to enjoy the views. If you can tear yourself away from the views, the cottage is in an ideal location to explore Snowdonia. We visited the nearby towns of Dolgellau & Machynlleth, Tal-y-llyn Lake and coastal Aberdyfi. Everything in the house is brand new and very comfortable. The log burner and the starter pack was most welcomed. We enjoyed a fire every evening. However, the central heating meant that the cottage was very warm and cozy in February, without the log burner. Our girls loved the cottage and are begging to go back one day. We may well return. Really impressed. Highly recommend.
