  • "Had an amazing week, even storm Darragh didn't dampen our enthusiasm for the place."

The cottage was warm, comfortable and had everything we needed. The setting was stunning with so many walks to chose from. This is by far the best place we have stayed. The only down side was having to leave we could have stayed forever.

  • "A lovely cosy cottage, set in a beautiful area."

Well worth the drive up the steep, narrow road! Some lovely varying views from the terraced garden. The garden isn't enclosed at the driveway, but it's a really good size, and a quiet area. The bed was so comfortable! Perfect after a day's walking, (and there's plenty of local trails to choose from). Lovely and warm, plenty of hot water, and logs for the fire. Great view of the night sky from the driveway too! We loved the area, and loved our stay at the cottage!

  • "A small under the worktop fridge does not provide enough space to store food for 5 people especially when on arrival on opening the fridge door to find all the shelves in the door absent."

This meant we could not store anything such as milk or wine in an upright position once opened. We spoke to the owner about this but he just said he didn't know about it as his sister dealt with the cottage .Also, as noted by a previous guest the oven cannot get to temperature as the door will not close properly. There is a very steep hair pin bend when leaving the main road to get to the cottage which is a bit scary, thankfully we never met a car coming the other way. The cottage is in a lovely setting and very peaceful and quiet with some great walks straight from the door. We had good weather and were able to use the many seating areas surrounding the cottage I hesitate to call it a garden as it really is just an open grassy space.

  • "This is our second stay at Ty Glan Yr Afon and we again enjoyed it very much."

The cottage is in a great spot for walking straight from the door, with lots of different routes to take. Inside its warm and comfortable with excellent facilities. It's great to be able to walk through the door into the hall with wet boots and dog and have space to dry off. Beds were comfy and rooms of good size. Just a minor issue, the large oven door does not shut properly therefore making it difficult to get up to temperature.

It is the most relaxing place to stay and has absolutely everything you could need. Utility area great for taking off the boots and coats, downstairs shower as well as a nice bath to have a relax upstairs. Very cosy with the log burner at night and as for the sky as night......wow. The best you can see anywhere. Amazing walks on all directions and the sound of the stream nearby is perfect. I could go on. Would love to return. Thank you

  • "Our stay at Ty Glan Yr Afon was great."

When we arrive the house was warm and cosy and the welcoming bottle of wine, welsh cakes, milk and fresh flowers was much appreciated. The kitchen was well equiped with plenty of cupboard space, so much so it took me a time to find everything! The downstairs bathroom, hanging space and washroom were very useful for wet boots and drying towels etc. The sitting room was spacious with comfy sofas. We did not need to light the log burner but it looked great. The upstairs bedrooms were all a good size and well furnished. We slept in the room above the kitchen and the bed was extremely comfortable. I always bring a mattress topper when I go away, it stayed in the truck this time! The upstairs bathroom was adequate with plenty of hot water, I like a good soak after a long walk. The outside space was great, with the sound of river very restful. This was spoiled on the weekend by the very noisy motorbikes going up the ORPA. We brought our dog and she loved the fact we could walk from the door along the many beautiful routes up into the hills and down along the river. We easily found a different route every day and still have plenty of other places to go next time we come. Thank you so much for our excellent holiday we would definitely recommend Ty Gan Yr Afon and will be back.

  • "A fantastic cottage set in a peaceful and beautiful location with stunning scenery on the doorstep."

We walked a few of the local footpaths which were fantastic. The property is located up a narrow road, but it is very quiet with plenty of pull in places for vehicles to pass. It is situated close to many places of interest . We spent time in Barmouth, waked the Mawddach path (whilst the children cycled), visited Port Meirion and my husband and I even got in time to summit Yr Wyddfa (Snowdonia). The beds were the most comfortable ones we have slept on and combined with the sound of the river at night we slept amazingly! The cottage is really well equipped and has everything you need. The outdoor seating was fantastic for an afternoon cup of tea! The hosts were super helpful and friendly. Thank you for a wonderful stay; we loved it!

The cottage itself is beautiful inside and out, with bundles of character. The interior décor is both immaculate and perfectly in keeping with the feel of the property. The living room, with its large fireplace and log burner is particularly cosy. It is situated in a picturesque valley, with a stream running past the front of the property. This created the perfect audio backdrop for our stay. With multiple walks on doorstep and only 15-20mins from Dolgellau and the beach at Barmouth, we found the location perfect for our stay. We look forward to staying here again.

The house is well equipped and kept impeccably clean. Two baskets of logs are provided and some welcome treats and flowers were in the kitchen. The central heating is efficient and reliable. The views are stunning and the location just 5 miles from Dolgellau, 5 from Barmouth beach and 10 from Benar beach and nature reserve is very convenient -- and of course there's plenty of decent walking on several trails from the cottage itself. • "Wonderful stay in a wonderful location."

The propertyexceeded our expectations. It is exceptionally beautiful. We loved the beams and fireplace and all bedrooms were really comfortable. The kitchen was really well equiped and washing machine and dryer worked well. The only things missing were some salt in the sald cellar , a brush for the dustpan under the sink and an iron and ironing board. Apart from that we had all we needed. We loved the fire pit outside and made use of it twice. Fabulous. The scenery around the property was amazing. The website description was incorrect as it states we were in the top building which we weren't and that we had an enclosed garden for the dog which we didn't. Forfunately he didn't go running off to visit the nearby sheep ! Maybe this should be corrected. We visited Barmouth and Harlech for beaches, did an great cycle ride down the estuary to Barmouth, went geocaching in a forest, did the zipwire and on the final morning ashort walk up to disused Clogau mine where kids found some gold !! Overall a fabulous holiday and would love to return. Thank you.

  • "The directions to actual cottage were not quite accurate - we were not in the top house and also the turn off was at the beginning of the village."

However the beds were VERY comfortable and the pillows great (I doubt I have ever given such praise). Views from every window. No supplies in Bontddu so ensuring enough milk, petrol is a good idea till you get your local knowledge. We were very glad to see a bottle of milk in fridge and were welcomed by some Welsh treats on the table. Very special place.

  • "This was probably the best holiday cottage experience we've ever had."

The cottage itself was so comfortable, well equipped and cosy, and the location was glorious. We were able to go for walks in so many different directions without getting in the car. There were woodland walks, riverside walks, moorland walks, more rugged mountain walks. We didn't have enough time to do all of them, so will definitely be back. One suggestion: all other cottages have had a folder with emergency contact details (GP, hospital, dentist etc), ideas about where to eat out, walks to go on, recommended local attractions etc. This would be very helpful. Plus perhaps a visitors' book, so that we could have shared useful information and recommendations with subsequent visitors? But this is by no means a criticism - only something that would make an excellent experience even better.
