"We first stayed at Marigold Cottage four years ago and had very positive memories of it."
It didn't disappoint this time around. It's an excellent base to plan walks around. The only downside for us is that we now have a dog who was able to accompany us on this holiday but as the cottage is now not accepting pets, we have to accept that Marigold Cottage will no longer be available to us. It is a lovely place to be, both in Clun and in the incredibly cosy cottage.

"Very nice and comfortable cottage, conveniently situated in the charming village of Clun."
-
"Lovely cosy cottage and very central for most activities in the area."
-
"The property was in an ideal quiet location, with lovely walks with the sound of church bells to brighten up any dreary morning."
The cottage although warm and cosy needed some tlc it required a deep clean downstairs thick with dust behind the sofa. walls needed a lick of paint; coat hooks were on the same panel as the electric wiring further down the wall preferable kettle needed descaling or replacing. The bedroom was light and airy comfy bed and plenty of storage. We love visiting this area.
Thank you for your comments. We're glad you love visiting this area. Since your stay, the cottage has undergone a serious revamp with regards to facilities & maintenance. I am sure if you were to visit again, your impression would be different. Whilst we of course welcome positive remarks it is recommended and requested that any negative comments are more fairly remarked upon in the Notes book especially for that purpose. Unfortunately in this instance, that request was ignored. Giving 25% for cleanliness is honestly disrespectful in our view. As Sykes policy means we are unable to remove your feedback, please know visitors who are minded to leave 25% scores for cleanliness are not welcome. Property Owner

"A lovely cottage that was very homely with a lot of the owners personal touches there."
Everything was very clear on how to use everything, I would personally like to thank the owner for the collection of books available- I have actually taken up yoga again as a result of their collection and bought one of the books myself ! A treat to have the castle so close and plenty of places to walk with dog, beautiful views and wildlife such as woodpeckers / hedgehogs / owls. Would highly recommend Clun and would definitely return.
Thank you for leaving your thoughtful review. I am very glad you derived so much value from your stay in multiple ways. Clun does have that magic power for sure. And you are always most welcome. Property Owner

"We loved Marigold Cottage."
And we loved Clun. A small village of 680 people but with two pubs, a village store with Post Office, ironmongers, gift and craft shops, two cafes, a mini tourist information and shop. Walks all around - wonderful countryside. The National Collection of Aeoniums if you're into horticulture. The cottage itself has everything you might want and we hardly used the central heating as, although the weather was wet and windy at times, the wood burning stove heats the whole cottage (although not great environmentally of course but just occasionally it's lovely to have). We cooked a lot and found everything we needed - the knives were sharp! Thoroughly recommend. Enjoy.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback. Happy new year! Property Owner

"Cosy and comfortable."
No welcome pack especially as it was Christmas. When we went to use the hob it wasn't working. So annoying as we had a Christmas dinner to cook and other meals. I didn't sleep with worry. Manager came on Christmas eve to provide us with a 2 burner hob. Electricity cut out twice . These things should have been checked before our arrival. It spoilt our winter break . We will not be returning

"A lovely cosy cottage to explore the wonderful area around Clun."
Will come again.
Thank you very much for your excellent feedback. We really appreciate that you took the trouble, and spoke so highly of both the cottage and Clun, both are hidden gems. You are always welcome to stay at Marigold Cottage. Best wishes. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage in a lovely town surrounded by lovely countryside."
Thank you so much for your fabulous feedback. We really appreciate & value your positivity. Every effort is made to ensure guests have a great time here. When our efforts are accurately reflected with a 5 star review, it makes it all worthwhile. We are delighted you enjoyed staying at Marigold Cottage in Clun. We really hope you will be able to come and visit again before too long. Property Owner

"Great location and we found Clun to be a very friendly and welcoming place."
Cottage was good although I agree with other comments about the shower. However, this didn't put us off as this was our stay at Marigold Cottage!
-
"Location great."
House fine for 2 adults. Basic amenities seemed very basic! Shower unusable except in the bath and no shower curtain. Very old and uncomfortable sofa in living room. Parking space described as ' ample' but actually small as car must be parked to avoid neighbour's garage.
Thank you for leaving your comments. Regarding the bathroom, it is a bath with a hand-held shower attachment as publicised and shown in the bathroom photo. Perhaps the sofa cushions were in need of a plump up. This has been noted and on future occasions, will be carefully monitored. The parking space is described on the website as 'roadside parking' . The reference to 'ample parking' is in the Welcome Pack and describes the wider area of the town itself. The space in front of the cottage is sufficient for any normal car (without a trailer). There is space further along next to the low wall if guests prefer. Clun is a medieval town and some of the meeting spaces and manoeuvrability can be tight. The parking space is as described perfectly adequate for any car, even a larger 4x4 which is what we drive & park there without issue. Nevertheless, we hope the parking did not detract too much from your wonderful-sounding holiday in Clun, a very special place. Property Owner

"It was adequate."

"This is a great base for a walking holiday."
Clun is a quiet and friendly place with good pub, cafe, shop, etc all just up the road and there is really nice walking from the door, including the Shropshire Way and on to Offa's Dyke. The cottage is comfortable, generously equipped and nicely furnished in traditional style with plenty of storage space. Our only complaint would be that the bathroom although it looked nice was not very user friendly.
Thank you for your constructive and helpful feedback. We will take steps to improve the bathroom. We are delighted that you were able to take full advantage of your experience staying at Marigold Cottage. It's a special place indeed. Property Owner
-
"Great location, and generally comfortable cottage."
Like other reviews would request coat hooks, especially as the joys of British weather mean they are often wet! 2 small criticisms - lack of a 'welcome pack' which is pretty standard in most holiday lets now. 2) Huge, but really poorly configured bathroom - you can only have a stand up shower if you are a Hobbit!!
Thank you for your comments. We are glad you found the cottage comfortable. By the way, coat hooks are on the wall behind the front door, above eye level. Welcome pack is in the black folder on the side by the bread oven. As described, the shower is hand-held, not overhead. Thanks again for taking the time to add your comments which have been noted. "Overall a quirky lovely warm cottage."
Beautiful village set in beautiful countryside. Great pub with lovely food.
-
"Location great, Quiet, just big enough for 2 Everything you need, own special Decor inside very nice."
Stairs very slippy with Socks on, Runner down the middle would help. No Coat Hook anywhere for Wet Coats. Very over looked in Kitchen More at Night need Blind. Garden at front messy. The fence as no use Better without so parking is better, Restricts Car door opening with narrow Road.
Thank you for the high score. Coats hooks are behind the front door. We don't dress the kitchen window as the high wall at the back of the courtyard means there's no line of sight inside. Regarding the stairs, it's a wooden staircase & purposefully remains uncovered. Due care is indeed necessary on staircases. Passengers normally hop out before the driver's parked the car snugly in situ. The fence is a feature and there to protect the small garden. Your remarks have been noted. Once again, we are grateful for the score that you applied to describe your stay. Thank you. Property Owner

"Had a lovely time in Clun and really enjoyed Marigold Cottage."
There were one or two unimportant things, like a smaller teapot and a teacosy, that I would have used for early mornings in bed, and coat hooks, but these are not complaints - just comments. Liked the tasteful decor and attractive woodiness, and the lighting was good, and the heat and hot water supply!

"We really enjoyed our stay."
We liked the cottage very much. It was comfy, spacious and light and had everything that one might need. The location was perfect for us as we mostly walked and we used the pub and shop in the Square which were barely five minutes walk away. Would highly recommend it. There were a few items that need some attention which we left details of for the owner, but they did not affect our overall enjoyment.
Thank you so much for your kind remarks. We're delighted that you enjoyed your time at Marigold Cottage. We highly appreciate you taking the time to offer your thoughts and helpful comments. Property Owner

"Lovely place Lovely warm cottage but it needs alot of t."
L.c down stair up stairs is Lovely very comfy bed needs lights in back yard and by front door dirty where your pans are a lot of cobs webs down stairs sorry needs a good clean down stairs when we arrived the back door was open sorry it is a lovely cottage just needs some care
We're glad you liked the cottage. Thank you for your helpful remarks. We will consider them carefully. Clun is an old medieval settlement, parts of Marigold Cottage are also old. The cottage originally was part of an old coach house inn.. Downstairs is old, built from ancient stone (some spiders do creep in when windows are left open for ventilation)! The cottage has a unique character and ambiance, and is loved by many. Often guests return again and again. In the winter months, the cottage is fairly exposed, but cosy inside. With regular changeovers sometimes things get overlooked. We do apologise for the oversight on this occasion. The corner cupboards in the kitchen are now clean and fresh again. The backdoor is often used by guests as it can be the preferred entrance to use. Clun typically is a safe low-crime area. The housekeepers had literally left the same day. Generally, of course, the back door is kept locked between bookings. We're confident that on a different occasion the impression would be different. Nevertheless, as mentioned, we have listened carefully to the comments and made amends accordingly. Thank you for leaving your review. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage, home from home feeling."
Great lot burner, easy to use, heats the rooms up nicely, especially in the cold weather. Very cosy.

"It was the perfect, quiet, cosy cottage."
We had a wonderful Christmas break at Marigold Cottage. The log fire was a delight and we were made to feel welcome and comfortable. Clun is a beautiful little market town and a great location to explore other scenic spots. We will definitely go back.
Thanks so much for your feedback and comments. We're thrilled that you had a happy Christmas at Marigold Cottage. It's a truly special time in Clun. Property Owner

"A lovely property with lots of character."
In great location for the village and surrounding areas. Good WiFi and facilities small courtyard to sit in. Nice and warm. Only negative if you like a shower it a bath with hand shower but due to being cottage you can’t stand up!
-
"Lovely cottage and beautiful place."
Very good for walking. Everything thought of by the owner in regard of guests needs. We have booked to go again after such a good holiday.
Thanks so much for your helpful comments. We're delighted that you were able to enjoy the cottage and, had such a good holiday. How wonderful that you decided to book again. It's true that Clun, and Marigold Cottage do have a particular charm. Property Owner

"Comfortable little cottage, well equipped, and just as described."
The surrounding countryside is lovely and the village of Clun is quiet and welcoming. We always enjoy staying here with our dog.

"We had a lovely holiday in Marigold Cottage and Clun was a beautiful place to stay."
Weather was amazing which is always a bonus. The only criticism would be the bathroom. The bath was exceptionally narrow even for a small person and the extended mixer tap hanging from two hooks from the sloping ceiling just didn't work as it was impossible to stand up. Also the plumbing needed attention when the toilet was flushed, the noise could be heard around the whole cottage and continued for sometime
-
"The cottage was cosy and comfortable although the bathroom facilities could do with updating."
The plumbing being very noisy when flushing the toilet.
-
"The cottage is brilliant - small but well thought out and really well equipped."
The kitchen had everything you could want (including sharp knives!), the bed was comfortable and the helpful information and little touches (like some lovely locally made soap, and tons of firewood) really made it perfect. We wanted it for the location - easy walk to town and to a couple good places to take pets for a walk - and because it was dog friendly. In fact I'd say dog welcoming! It was ideal for us and I'd definitely stay there again.
-
"Lovely compact cottage with everything you need for a comfortable stay."
Loved the bedroom with its bright open feel. Small courtyard ideal for us and dogs. Two minutes walk into centre of village and river. Two pubs, store and cafes. Lovely area and really enjoyed our stay. Would definitely recommend
-
"It's a lovely cottage and very well located for a walking holiday around Clun."
We didn't need to move the car once we'd arrived as so many walks radiate from the locality. Kitchen is well equipped ( but no potato masher!) and the bed's lovely and comfortable.
-
"Lovely, cosy cottage, within minutes walking distance of the village centre."
Perfect place for a get away from it all break.
-
"Lovely comfortable cottage with a well equipped kitchen, generous bathroom and a comfortable bed."
No garden but a small enclosed yard worked well for us and our dogs. The owner has clearly thought carefully about how to make guests warm and comfy. We would definitely book again if we return to the area.
-
"Lovely cottage and we enjoyed our week in Clun very much."
The cottage was well equipped including the kitchen so we were able to prepare our own meals easily which was important as pubs and cafes were only open for outside service and the weather was not good so eating outside was not ideal
-
"Perfect in every way."
Fabulous week & would love to book again.
-
"This is a lovely little cottage that we stay at regularly."
We also felt very Covid-19 safe. Sykes have developed good systems for coping with the difficult circumstances caused by government regulations and restrictions. Thank you to the owner of the cottage and to Sykes.
-
"Lovely cottage, perfect for a cozy hide away for two, just the getaway we needed to read, write, walk the dogs and escape the covid madness."
Great location.
-
"We had an enjoyable stay at this cottage."
The cottage is cosy and in a really nice little town with some good shops and pubs within walking distance. The countryside is beautiful and very quiet and unspoilt. The wood burner was great and the bed and sofa were comfortable. There are a couple of things that could have made it even nicer; we missed having a proper shower (the bath is under a sloping ceiling so you can't stand up in it) and there was a slightly musty smell when we first came in and also in some of the kitchen cupboards but this is a very old property so that may be hard to resolve. Great value for money though so we would come and stay again.
Thank you for your mainly positive comments. The situation of the shower in the bathroom is well-described on the Sykes website. My housekeeper has 'freshened up' the corner cupboards. Thank you for pointing out these observations. Kind regards, Charlotte Moir Owner Property Owner

"Maybe we should have known but we were not aware that induction cookers do not have a grill."
The one in the cottage was also very difficult to turn on the hob "plates". Is this usual? It was also lovely to get home where we only have to turn off the kitchen taps not have to keep screwing them down to stop them dripping being older it was very difficult with our old wrists. Sorry if this sounds like a fussy complaint but we have never had these problems before in fairness most of the people in the guest book seemed very happy and said they would return.
Thank you for your helpful remarks. On the cooker and in the welcome pack, the grill is clearly labelled and the instructions to use the hob are easy to reference in the welcome pack. The taps in the kitchen do currently take a firm turn to close! We are looking into either re-servicing or replacing the existing kitchen tap. Thank you, Charlotte Moir Owner Property Owner

"Nice little cottage, well situated for exploring the local are."
-
"This is a lovely little cottage on a quiet road on the edge of the village and only a short walk to the centre."
Parking is easy and there is a sunny little courtyard garden. The interior is very comfortable and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. We have stayed here several times and absolutely love the surroundings. The local residents are friendly and there are pubs and coffee shops within a short walk all selling good quality food and drink. Country walks are possible from the front door and the grounds around the castle are ideal for dog walking. We love it here and don't hesitate to recommend this little cottage.

"Most relaxing place , exceeded our dreams and more"

It's an incredible location for walking, we spent three nights here and did a great deal of walking with the dog - he slept for days when we got home

"Lovely, quiet, cottage in a lovely quiet village, catering for the dog owners"

"Was a lovely cottage it was in the right place for whatever you wanted to go in the village it was so peaceful"

"Having sold our house we were unable to move immediately into our new home."
A holiday let of this exceptional standard was the ideal solution allowing life to carry on as normal for the whole family (us plus 2 dogs). To arrive and find that the kitchen is stocked with every appliance you would have at home and a few more was the icing on the cake.
-
"The log burner is the only way to heat the property and they want you to replace ..."
The log burner is the only way to heat the property and they want you to replace the logs you use, in all the cottages I've stopped in I have never had to replace the gas of the centre heating, to many rules regarding dogs, they expect you to lock you dog in the kitchen and they are supposed to be dog friendly
Thank you for your feedback, Within the property there is a fully working gas central heating system. Gas is it not required to be replaced. Logs are free and provided within the rental charge. The Dog rules follow Sykes T&Cs. Property Owner

"The cottage is in a good location, on the edge of the small town of Clun with walks into the hills and woodland straight from the front door."
-
"Comfy and cosy cottage for 2 in the lovely village of Clun, we will be back."

"Just returned from another lovely stay at Marigold Cottage in Clun."
This was our second stay at Marigold and everything was just as perfect as the first time. The cottage is spotlessly clean and there is everything you could possibly need to enjoy your stay. Its on School Lane so it can be busy when the mums and dads are taking their children to and from school but other than that its in a very quiet location ideal for fabulous walks and two very good pubs serving good quality food. The town of Clun is a very friendly place and dogs are made very welcome. Hope we will be making our third visit soon.
-
"This was a great little break that me and my 35 week pregnant partner really needed ."
The cottage was the perfect accommodation. The village was lovely with 2 pubs in walking distance . The only shop is a spar which is a little expensive but we only needed to take a 20 min drive to Ludlow where there is both a Tesco and an Aldi. We took our little dog teddy An he really enjoyed it although we would have like to do a bit more walking as we could see the was some great routes. We are even thinking of having a little break when our baby boy arrives as the cottage would be a perfect base for us with everything we needed.
-
"Lovely cottage, spotless and cosy and well equipped."
Excellent location. Very comfy bed!
-
"Would recommend this cottage for a cosy Winter break in a lovely peaceful village."
The log burner was really great and a huge supply of logs provided along with plenty of hot water and central heating. The village has a good pub and shop. Thinking about returning in the Summer.
-
"As lovely as the wood burner was, if we let it go out the cottage soon became extremely cold."
It did state that there would be gas central heating but this had been disconnected, which was a shame as it provides more evenly distributed warmth. The cottage was clean and well equipped and Club was a nice village.
-
"Lovely village."
Friendly people. Idea location for where we wanted to be.
-
"This was our third visit to Clun."
On the first two occasions we stayed in a B & B but as we now have two dogs we decided that a cottage would be the better option. The cottage was just perfect for us.- everything there that you could possibly need and spotlessly clean. Although we stayed for a week at the end of June we had two very cold evenings so the wood burner was an extra bonus - very snuggly and warm. The town of Clun is very welcoming and the two pubs and the Maltings tea rooms all served very good food at reasonable prices. The White Horse even does take-away fish and chips - what more do you need !!! We had a fabulous stay and will definately be back soon.
-
"I had a stroke two days before we were due to go so it was good to just be able to relax"
-

About the location
CLUN
Bishop's Castle 6 miles; Ludlow 18 miles.
A.E. Houseman's poem, A Shropshire Lad, defined Clun as 'the quietest place under the sun', and with its dramatic ruin of a Norman castle, Saxon church, the bustling river which flows under the 14th century pack horse bridge, and a country inn, Clun is a rural gem situated in the South Shropshire Hills. It lies on the Shropshire Way in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to the border of Wales, an area known as The Marches. This unspoilt part of Britain has an abundance of wildlife and beautiful unhindered walking and cycling routes winding their way through the countryside with the Clun and Kerry Forests, Offa's Dyke, and Kerry Ridgeway all close by. There are a wide range of festivals and shows on offer in the surrounding area throughout the year, including The Green Man festival in May. From Clun, you can also enjoy exploring the historic towns of Bishop's Castle, Presteigne, Ludlow, Shrewsbury, and Hereford, a must for visitors.
