  • "Stunning property within easy walking distance to Fairbourne and some stunning local walks."

Property was clean and comfortable with a welcome gift of Welsh cakes and milk. The whole area is extremely dog friendly and Fairbourne Beach is stunning. Make a point of visiting the Fairbourne steam train, Cregganan Lakes, Dolgellau and doing the Precipice Walk. One really minor point was lack of useful contact number and guidance on checking out. Minimal cleaning equipment and recycling/ general rubbish bins were full and we only added to the problem. Overall the Henddol Cottage 2 was a lovely, quiet and relaxing place to stay; loved our time here and we would definitely consider staying here again.

  • "The cottage was lovely with everything we needed including everything to make full meals during our stay."

It felt cosy yet spacious and our two children loved that it was an 'upside down' house. It was clean and the welcome treat was gratefully received! The double bed has a head board and foot board which was slightly restrictive for one of the party (6ft3) but other than that we really couldn't fault it. We took bikes and really enjoyed pedalling to Barmouth over the railway bridge to go crabbing. But we also spent a lot of time in Fairbourne which was in easy walking or very easy cycling distance. The beach is stunning, and we enjoyed several meals in the Penrhyn bar and grill, and the chippy. The little steam train was also a bit hit. If you pay gift aid you can use your ticket many times during the year after buying it, which was a welcome surprise.

My only want was a fire guard as we had a toddler and a 6 year old felt we couldn't put the fire on until they had gone to bed. We cycled down to Fairbourne and then across to Barmouth it was wonderful. Would highly recommend this lovely cottage

Lovely cottage with enclosed garden - so we could let the doggies out without worry. Great open plan kitchen/living space and 2 good sized bedrooms. The location is brilliant, 10 minute walk to a dog friendly beach in Fairbourne. Small grocery shop in Fairbourne, or larger supermarket in Dolgellau. Friog is a great location to explore Snowdonia.

Lovely property within 5 mins walk of the sea front. The open plan lounge, diner, kitchen room is quite light and airy, but I imagine when the stove is lit it can be cosy too. Two large sofas to allow you to spread out. The bedrooms are comfortable and are located downstairs, as is the bathroom. The accommodation filled our needs and is nicely located for beach dog walks and excursions to Barmouth, Dolgellau, Tywyn, Aberdyfi and Snowdonia (Cader Idris is quite close). If we were being finicky a dishwasher would be great, but otherwise the kitchen is well equipped. We may well be looking for a return trip later in the year.

Under the beds and sofas was filthy. I wasn't looking for that but as you went down stairs you could see how bad it was. It made a perfect base, we had family staying next door and down the road in a B&B. Location was ideal for exploring and going on lovely walks. Cottage was modern and had lovely beds. Lovely grass area too for dogs and kids. Only room for improvement would be the following: Welcome Pack - info re recycling, wifi code and the local area. Outside light Dishwasher - shocked there wasn’t a dishwasher given the size of the kitchen More glasses - and another larger pan and more crockery including egg cups A warming sign regarding how hot the water is. We would definitely come back and recommend. One other thing turn the fan off in the bathroom at night by using the isolation switch outside. It will keep you and the neighbours awake. Luckily as family were staying next door we asked them to do the same as gave us a sleepless night.

Found the stairs a little difficult as I'm disabled and could really have used a hand rail both sides but I managed only slipping once during my stay. TV would have been nicer if it was a little bigger and slightly higher. Could really have used some instructions on the method of recycling as the containers were very different to where we live. Just a list of what is recycled and what to separate into each bin would have been a big help. This is our second visit and won't be my lady. I will continue to recommend to all our friends and family.

  • "The cottage suited us perfectly in terms of location, facilities, comfort, parking etc."

It is a lovely place to stay for a small family. However, as many people have commented in the past, it could do with a thorough clean. It is a relatively small property and with the extra time (entry after 5pm and departure by 9am) that has been allowed to clean it because of COVID 19, one would expect it to be spotless. Suffice to say, you would not wish to drop and retrieve anything from between the settee cushions or from under any furniture! It is a pity that the owner seems to ignore this advice.

  • "The cottage itself was restored to a high standard; the bed was comfortable as were the sofas."

As others had mentioned in the visitors' book, it is in need of a good deep clean. The kitchen utensils and crockery were not all thoroughly washed, and I had to wash them all before use. (One plate had actually been stacked DIRTY, as had a pan.) The kitchen had been equipped to a good basic level, but not with real love and enthusiasm, as has been the case in several cottages I use. I suppose @utilitarian' would describe it. The cottage is very conveniently situated with lovely walks and beach nearby, and despite some reservations, I would book it again. It's a pity there isn't a dishwasher, which would help with hygiene. The TV was not watchable in rainy weather (just when it is needed!) so a dish might be considered. Also, as was mentioned frequently in the visitors' book, I was surprised there was no reference file: ref bins, local amenities etc. This is normally a given in rental cottages. The tin opener was broken, and had also been mentioned previously. I do not mind of you publish this or not. It is meant to be helpful.

    E. thick dust and cobwebs everywhere, dirty mirrors, cup marks on coasters, dirty windows, some of the kitchen dishes needed replacing, the fridge door handle hadn’t been cleaned and the cottage didn’t smell nice on walking in. The place needs a good spring clean. Not what you expect to find in a holiday home. We found that it's about an hours drive from most things we wanted to do. The pony trekking centre down the road is good and value for money. The only let down was the cleaning of the cottage, cobwebs and dust everywhere. Also the patio at the rear needs finishing and some of the slabs are wobbly.

There were lots of cobwebs in the corners of all the rooms. I had the clean the oven/grill tray because someone had used it previous to us arriving ( previous occupants)and it was covered in fat, and the utensil draw was dirty with a long hair right across all the items in the draw. The cottage itself was great and the location was brilliant ( just down the lane from the blue lake) and a ten minute walk to the lovely beach and shops), but the whole experience was let down by below average cleaning.
