The views were incredible both during the day and at night- we were even lucky enough to see some ospreys flying overhead. Previous reviews say it all really, the only thing that is hard to describe is the overall feel of the place, the views are not done justice by any photo and you need to climb one of the local hills to get the full picture of how isolated the location is. I cannot see how anyone would be disappointed by the Old House. The house is great in all aspects, location is great etc etc.

We received an extremely warm welcome from Kayleigh, who together with her husband, made sure throughout the week that we had everything we needed. The old farmhouse was really well equipped and an extremely comfortable and relaxing place to stay in - we really felt at home. We loved collapsing in front of the blazing log burner at the end of each day. The views from the house are stunning and the attractive nearby town of Llanidloes has a great variety of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. There are so many places to walk in the area - Llyn Clywedog is beautiful, with lots of walks, and the walk to the source of the River Severn was stunning (but strenuous), the Hafren Forest has so many trails. A short drive away from the house there are also small, attractive ruined castles and small towns to explore There is so much to do in the area and we couldn’t have had a better base from which to explore.

We were there in the midst of a storm so couldn't really venture out but the children still enjoyed as did the adults. Felt totally at home as soon as we arrived. Spacious, beautiful and loved the photo album of the renovations. I did try to discover a bit more information on the history of the house itself-so if i could make any suggestions it would be that-a little historical information on who lived there, what their lives were like etc The view is breathtaking and loads of outdoor space for children to play. Id certainly return.

  • "Very, very happy to recommend the Old House."

The owners are welcoming, helpful and on hand if you have any questions or problems but certainly not intrusive. The Old House itself is very tastefully done and spotlessly clean. Thought and effort have obviously gone into making this a lovely home. It’s also very comfortable and spacious and well equipped. With a large living/dinning area (with wood burning stove) separate television room, large kitchen with table and a comfy sofa in the sunny entrance area there’s plenty of space for all guests to socialise together or to find their own space. There’s also plenty of outside seating where you will certainly want to sit and spend time admiring the stunning views over the valley. The location on a workingfarm in the beautiful mid Wales countryside is hard to better if you want to unwind and refresh. You will need a car. The charming town of Llanidloes is a short drive away - it has a surprising number of very good food shops (grocers, butchers, bakery, deli and fishmongers) and far too many pubs to have tried all of them in a week. The welcome was always warm and we also had good food, especially in the Angel. There’s plenty to do in the surrounding area in addition to the obvious walking. Our unexpected bonus was a trip to the Mid Wales Shooting Centre where some of us (but not all) discovered a talent for clay pigeon shooting. A very enjoyable week.
