"A beautiful and well appointed cottage."
We were very comfortable - a home from home.
-
"Had a great time at Castle Cottage, Clun."
Wonderfully charming, well equipped and a fantastic location with walks on the doorstep, a well stocked village shop and two great pubs! Loved the gorgeous bathroom for a long soak after a trek over the stunning Shropshire Hills. The owner was realy helpful and contacted me during my stay to make sure everything was OK (which it was). Just be aware that the stairs are very steep and mind your head on the kitchen door frame! Will definately book again.

"The cottage was advertised as dog friendly, but when we arrived there were signs all around saying no dogs on the furniture."
Our dogs are small and elderly, so the reason we had chosen the cottage was that they could have a holiday too. As always, we had taken throws, but it was extremely stressful for us and the dogs, trying to keep them on the floor. I did call Becky after 4 days, and she was really helpful. The cooking range was the only source of hot water, which we did manage to master, but it also meant that because the weather was warm, that the heat within the cottage was unbearable when it was on. The cottage itself was beautiful, and very clean. We did feel that the neighbours were overly interested in what we were doing, and when we put the rubbish bags out as requested, we were told that it was recycling week. This was the first we knew of it, as nothing was mentioned in the manual, and there was no provision made for this. As a result, everything was bagged up together. Becky who owns the cottage was absolutely charming and extremely helpful.

"Castle Cottage is, if anything even more delightful than the pictures show: perfectly situated in Clun village and wonderfully appointed in all respects."
I don't ubderstand how some people had trouble with the Stanley heater/cooker, as I managed to get it up and running in five minutes with the help of the detailed instructions. Yes, it's not modern, but I for one loved the temperature dial on the oven: "cool/hot/very hot"!! The owner was very prompt in responding to my texts and very helpful. The bed was almost too comfortable, and the double room was very spacious. All in all I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. Cosy, ideally located and full of character: I'll most certainly be back.

"Loved the cottage."
Everything very comfortable, particularly the beds. The Range cooker was interesting but there were very clear instructions. Sunny patio. Being so central there are many country walks right from the front door. We will happily return. Because of the British weather a coat rack in the rear porch would be useful for the wet jackets!

"Our 2nd stay at this cottage which again was very enjoyable and we finally had a couple of days with no rain"
-
"The cottage was lovely, quaint and very cosy."
We had everything we needed for our stay. The village was nice and friendly with two good pubs. Most enjoyable!
-
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Clun and this area of south Shropshire."
The weather was consistently wet so we didn’t use the outside space but soon warmed up and dried out after our explorations and walks in the cosy cottage.
-
"We arrived quite late so there was a communication breakdown, this was the first time that I have had to ring the Sykes Out of Hours service - everyone was very helpful and the issue was resolved."
The cottage was lovely and Clun is a lovely friendly village, The Neighbours next door were super helpful and on hand to help - would definitely rebook
-
"Lovely cottage, all that we needed…."
Only downside is bathroom downstairs but everything else more than makes up for this
-
"Stayed at Castle Cottage for 5 nights over New Year with my husband and our pooch."
What a lovely little place and very friendly welcoming village. The cottage was very well equipped, The Stanley took a bit of working out but nothing major and I actually quite liked the challenge
-
"This is a lovely old cottage with many period features."
Steps, stairs, a low door. The Stanley range needs a little attention to the instructions but we mastered it in no time. We loved our time here. For those that don't check a map, there is a road at the front of the cottage but it didn't impact on us at all. The parking is ad hoc but again we had no problems. Log burner is really easy to use and is so warm. The shower is a revelation! Neighbours and the villagers are awesome. A hidden gem. I hope this doesn't put up the price! Oh and as an after thought I desperately wanted to steal the chair in the living room. I resisted.

"Quite a tired cottage, some beautiful features but all very worn"
-
"This is a pretty little cottage with lots of original features along with all modern amenities."
Very comfortable with friendly neighbours & a little local supermarket. The village is lovely and the countryside is beautiful.
-
"Im sorry to say we were disappointed , photos of cottage obviously taken a few years ago , patio area is awful and scruffy ,not a place to chill at all ."
On street parking as expected but no mention of the street being the main route through the village by cars ,vans ,tractors , buses and lorries , all passing 12 " away from the front door . The Stanley range was a challenge but once we had set the timeclock up it was not too bad until it whilst cooking it just switched itself off ( yes the cure was written in the instructions but dinner was spoilt by then ) . and a minor issue was the tv box needs upgrading or so the tv kept telling us .All in all not one of Sykes best

"Very comfortable clean well kept cottage."
Stanley the AGA was a learning curve but help was available and great to use. Lovely countryside. Lots of walks from front of cottage to use. Plenty of villages and small towns to visit.
-
"We had a lovely stay in this little cottage."
It was a home from home, except the beds and the Aga were far superior to our own sleeping and cooking facilities! Gorgeous walks right on the doorstep and lots of lovely places to visit nearby. Peaceful little garden at the back to enjoy the birdsong, a good book and a glass of wine. Delightful bathroom with a free standing bath to have a relaxing bubble bath after a day exploring the beautiful Shropshire countryside. We were sad to leave, we loved Clun. Highly recommended.
-
"This was a beautiful location and a great cottage for exploring the area."
-
"Lovely cottage, well appointed had everything we needed."
Comfortable beds, slept well. Close to Spar and local pub for great meals. Great base for lots of walks. Would visit area again
-
"Beautiful and well situated cottage."
Comfortable and clean, warm and had plenty of hot water. Owner has insured that cottage has everything necessary for stay including well- stocked kitchen, books, games, hairdryer and maps. Aga quick to master. Parking on narrow road outside - but never more than a few metres away from the cottage. Clun and it’s residents are fantastic. Everyone so friendly and helpful. Shop and good pubs a short walk. Will visit Shropshire again - and definitely stay in castle cottage. Highly recommended.

"Fabulous bed, fabulous bath/shower and we loved Stanley the range cooker."
He sorted our cooked breakfast every morning and a long soak in the tub every evening after our walk. We couldn't have had better weather and made full use of the courtyard. Table and 2 chairs were great ..... perhaps a little more tlc in this area and some plants would really make sitting out more inviting. On road parking but despite bank hols and half term, we got parked outside every day/evening. Clun is so friendly and everybody stops to chat to you. Top tip from a lady we met out dog walking .... she told us to go to the Castle Hotel at Bishops Castle as they are dog friendly and their beer garden is like sitting out in Tuscany. With the sun and blue sky, the flowers, carp pond and fountains, she was SO right!!! White Horse Inn in Clun served lovely food, dog friendly and plenty of gluten free choice for coeliac hubby. The Spar also has lots of goodies to rustle up something in the cottage. Great for us and our staffie .... so many walks from the door and she had so many treats when out and about, she didn't want to come home!!! We certainly will return ~ Andy x

"Lovely stay in the cottage."
The town of Clun was very friendly and welcoming. Some delightful cafes and the surrounding areas with stunning scenery for walks right on your doorstep.
-
"We book cottage holidays twice a year for over 20 years and this was the first time there was no Welcome Pack awaiting us, not even a pint of milk to make a brew after a long journey."
Not asking for loads of produce but it does create a good first impression and nice welcome feeling. Castle Cottage was superficially clean but the whole place really needs a good deep clean. The rear patio area desperately needs some attention. It is not pleasant or relaxing to sit outside surrounded by 30cm high overgrown weeds, dead plants, broken terracotta pots, rusty bucket etc. We have pulled all the weeds up for you so I would suggest you now invest in a few new plants in pots to brighten the place up. If you have delegated the cleaning and general maintenance responsibilities to a third party then we have photos if you wish to see for yourself. Very little in the way of basic household supplies provided, not even bin liners for example. No wheely bin provided at this property and it feels very awkward and weird knocking on the door of neighbours cottage handing over our black rubbish bags to put in with their wheely bin as per book instructions. The Stanley range cooker is a complete Pain in the Ass!! I am well used to these style cookers as my parents have had one for 25 years. This Stanley oil fired cooker is the sole source of cooking, hot water and central heating system. This Stanley cooker is a very old model, it is not User Friendly, extremely inefficient and definitely not environmentally friendly. This old cooker switches itself off as a safety measure in order to avoid overheating, unfortunately it can do this without warning halfway through the cooking process on occassions when we had a chicken and lasagne in the oven. As per following trouble shooting book instructions in order to get the cooker going again you have to trick it back into action by opening up the hot water taps and draining the tank of hot water and so the Stanley fires itself up again in order to reheat a whole new tank of water again thus by adjusting the baffle positions diverting the resulting heat back into the oven and so restarting the cooking process. What a waste of time, money, natural resources, water, hot water plus oil fuel to heat a new set of water. I would suggest updating to a more efficient, environmentally friendly and user friendly cooking system and maybe a simple Combi Boiler for the heating and hot water systems. Also as per instructions the Central Heating control has to be switched to the On position which makes the whole cottage unbearable hot. Even in May we had all the windows open upstairs and downstairs and rear door to cope with the heat but the road outside is surprisingly very busy with traffic noise which spoils the peace and quiet previously provided by the double glazing. I dread to think how overbearing the internal temperatures would be in the summer months. Yes we ensured all the radiators were turned off in all rooms but with the Stanley constantly running it heats up this small compact 2 Up 2 Down terraced cottage. The unpredictable nature of this Stanley cooker meant that it was Hit and Miss whether there was any hot water for showers in the morning or on returning from a days walking. Very limited on street parking on first come basis shared with numerous other properties. This competitive situation isn’t helped by the fact that the permanent residents next door have up to 4 cars and work vans which account for most of the parking spaces. The alternative parking facilities are 5 and 10 minutes walk away. On the plus side it is a very nice cottage with great potential but is considerably neglected and in need of upgrading. The bathroom is great but needs a reliable source of hot water. There was plenty of firewood provided but we did not make use of the log burner due to the mild external temperatures and overbearing internal temperatures caused by the outdated Stanley cooker. The village White Horse pub is a real bonus, friendly welcoming Landlord and staff, excellent food and beers brewed on the premises. Clun village and the surrounding Shropshire/Welsh Borders are a true Hidden Gem. We would definitely return to Clun again but unfortunately would not return to Castle Cottage. This cottage was very disappointing, whilst it did not spoil our weeks holiday I can state it was certainly the most frustrating and least relaxing cottage break we have ever experienced. I would thoroughly recommend people to visit and stay in Clun but would advise to find alternative accommodation.

"Everything was ok with cottage we have stayed there 5years ago and the cottage ..."
Everything was ok with cottage we have stayed there 5years ago and the cottage is still up to the same stand ,have to say sorry as we forgot to strip bed linen
-
"We did find the Aga weird to operate, only because we've never had to before."
But, its not a complaint because we managed to cook and keep very warm. Maybe even more idiot guide would be good - really spell out what the baffles do etc. Felt very baffled on the first day!
-
"Lovely little cottage."
Nice quiet walks from Clun and a couple of cafes and pubs in village. Lovely walk to Bishop Castle to three Tuns one day- recommend it! A bit of a drive to Shrewsbury but worth a visit. We also went to Ludlow - lovely and iron bridge - honeypot and walked from church stretton one day - v busy!
-
"Just lovely!"
Thank you!!!

"Castle Cottage is a little tucked away treasure."
The town of Clun has to be THE friendliest town we've ever been to! The cottage was clean throughout - this is always an important feature for us. Although we took our own bedding / towels - everything we needed was provided anyway. Even items for four legged family members! It felt like a home from home, truly. The instructions for the Stanley were clear and easy to use. The bed is a fantastic piece of art actually! Solidly made, very comfy. The cottage itself is tranquil, warm and the manner in which it has been carefully restored is just beautiful. Plenty of kindling & logs for the fire. Kept us nice & toasty on the cold week we had - albeit blue skies / crisp mornings - lovely. Castle Street is pretty busy, but double glazing worked a treat and this didnt affect us in any way. Parking on the road was easy. Clun took us by surprise never visiting before - it is absolutely beautiful. The views are just perfect. There is a Spar shop 5 minutes walk away, two pubs and cafe. The town has lots of little walks in every direction, great for our 12 year old JRT! Not too strenuous but views in every direction. We left the latest edition of thw Clun Chronicle in the basket in the kitchen - there is a lot going on in the town, which is great to know for those wanting to get involved! Ludlow - 30 mins - highly recommended. Bishops Castle, Craven Arms, Newtown & Knighton all close by, lovely views on the drive there. We would highly recommend Castle Cottage....it is everything you didnt realise you needed...and more. Thank you Becky & Jack for sharing this little treasure...we'll most certainly be back. Nikkii.

"We had a lovely week at the castle cottage in Clun ."
The cottage is very quirky and cosy. Loved the log fire and the Bath . The cottage had everything you need for a comfortable stay . Next door the friendly neighbours are at hand if you have any problems. clun village a few minutes away with pubs shops and cafes . The cottage does need a little tlc in a few places and a new mop head . But I would recommend this cottage and we hope to return in the near future thanks.
-
"Lovely cosy cottage."
Really enjoyed the walks in the area and found the people of Clun very friendly. Had a very relaxing time over new year.
-
"I enjoyed our week at Castle Cottage."
The oven was tricky at times but the house is cosy and warm. Thank you.
-
"The Castle cottage made us feel like we were coming home."
-
"Loved our stay in this cute, characterful, quirky, little cottage!"
Beds are very comfortable and nice to have good quality bed linens and towels. Perhaps not a great choice of home for someone who is tall or large-framed (husband and I are both small) — the doorframe between lounge and kitchen is very low and the steep staircase is narrow. (We left our luggage downstairs in convenient empty nook to left of fireplace — saw no need to struggle getting it upstairs). Peaceful and delightful to sit out in the little backyard in the evening with glass of wine listening to the sheep and the birds. Cottage is wonderfully situated — very close to grocery store and great pub. Clun is a delightful base for enjoying beautiful local countryside.
-
"Lovely setting and well placed for visiting lots of different locations."
Nice cottage, owner was friendly and helpful. It would be nice to have a welcome basket when you arrive with some local produce in, as an added touch. It would also be good to have three chairs for the patio area, as there are only currently two and we had three people staying. I would recommend the cottage as there are so many good points, being in the village and local to so many interesting areas to visit.
-
"We had a wonderful stay at Castle Cottage in Clun, the cottage itself is very characterful and comfortable!"
We were very lucky with the weather but the location was the best part. What a lovely little town and a very welcoming pub. We recommend visiting Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Hereford, and National Trust Powis Castle was particularly beautiful with such a range of plants and flowers! Shropshire is stunning and we will be back again, thank you!
-
"The cottage was so cosy, comfortable and we had a wonderful stay."
Very rural and iddilic location not too far from lots of interesting places. Really appreciated the beautiful decor and luxurious bath! The arga took us a while to get used to and there wasn’t any cooking basics at the property, such as tea, sugar, salt, oil. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, thank you!

Excellent cottage Central to a lot of places to visit Nice and cozy Me being a astronomer the sky is fantastic George
-
"The property needs a cupboard to store food and a bread bin."
There are no instructions to operate the microwave.
-
"What a fab cottage."
Very cosy with a super comfortable bed. I would definitely return for another stay. Loved the Stanley cooker once I got used to it, did the cooking, heating and hot water. Brilliant. I would only advise 2 small improvements. The bath and shower were great but there wasn't really anywhere to put shampoo, soap etc. The little wicker table next to the bath isn't really suitable because as soon as it gets even a tiny bit wet you get all this brown sludgy goo coming through the top. As I don't have a microwave at home I found it difficult to operate without any instructions. These little niggles would not deter me from staying again at this lovely cottage
-
"Lovely cottage in a quiet Shropshire village."
Very comfortable. Fabulous outdoor seating area at rear. Great bathroom. Struggled a bit with the Arga but there were detailed instructions. Just not used to cooking on one. We stay in a lot of cottages etc and we were surprised that there was no tea, coffee, milk etc. fortunately we had brought our own.
-
"We had such a lovely stay at the cottage it was so cosy & had everything that you needed would definitely return thank you!"
-
"We had a lovely time in this lovely quaint cottage, very cosy and virtually everything you would need."
Just one suggestion would be a trivot in the kitchen for putting pans which have come off the stove onto. Other than that a faultless stay, thank you
-
"Cosy cottage well placed for great walks."
-
"This cosy and well equipped cottage in a picturesque village has everything you need for a relaxing time away."
Found the bathroom and bedroom to be of a particularly good standard. The White Horse pub serves good quality home cooked food and local ales and is under 2 minutes walk away. There are also plenty of walks from the doorstep in the beautiful Shropshire countryside. Would recommend and stay again.
-
"Very enjoyable break wonderful cosy cottage will definitely be back"
-
"A beautifully clean and cosy cottage, perfect for us."
Amazing walks from the front door. Friendly local pubs and shops. Loved it!!!
-
"The neighbours were quite intrusive towards the end of the week, going through our rubbish as soon as we put it outside."
And moaning about the last people to stay. We Always felt they were waiting for us to come in and out. Didn’t feel comfortable and able to enjoy the outside space with them always around.
-
"Lovely cottage good value, lovely friendly peaceful village."
Nice pubs within walking distance friendly both really friendly. Only concern was rubbish on final day having to rely on neighbours, like to be self sufficient.
-
"We stayed for a week in September."
Castle Cottage is delivered solidly at 3 stars. We booked it as it was the most economical place we could find in the beautiful countryside of Shropshire. Beds and sofa were super comfy, whole place was cosy all week. Parking was very easy. The cottage is on a road which was only busy first thing in the morning and at going home time. Outside of these times it was fine and not noticeably busy throughout the weekend. The evenings and nights were totally, sublimely peaceful this end of the village, with millions of stars over the back yard and especially from the grounds of the ruined castle directly over the road (free access 24/7), accompanied by surround sound Owl hooting. We found the range very easy to use, there are easy to follow instructions for firing it up to cook and it provided acres of hot water. We happily cooked on it most evenings. This area has unlimited walking, road cycling and off road cycling for all ages and abilities, in the most wonderful, very accessible countryside
-
"Castle cottage has a warm historical feel."
Beautifully decorated, with a lovely rear patio. Clun is very friendly and brilliant for rambling with dogs. We had no problems parking opposite the cottage, the main road can be busy, but isn’t the end of the world. The cold tap in the bathroom was dripping/ running slowly on arrival and continued to constantly drip/ run throughout our holiday. I would recommend castle cottage for anyone seeking a picturesque relaxing holiday.
-
"I would not stay in this cottage again (despite how lovely it was) for one reason only."
The cooking/heating/hot water facilities do not lend themselves to making this a relaxing place to stay. I messaged the owner on arrival about some missing wine glasse. She arranged to drop some replacements off and also gave us a bottle of wine. She was lovely and couldn't have been more helpful. I mentioned to her that I was planning on using the range the next day and she said that I could call her if I got stuck. I got stuck and called her as agreed. She was busy putting her daughter to bed but that is perfectly reasonable. When she called back and talked me through the instructions, she realised that to get the range to cook, I needed to turn the room thermostat up to 25 degrees and then turn all the radiators off so that we didn't overheat. I gave up the idea of cooking at this point. It is such a shame that an otherwise perfect cottage (and owner) should have such a ridiculous cooking arrangement. I'm sure other people have managed this, but I'm equallt sure that others would br put off renting again for the same reason. It didn't help that because of staff shortages, neither of the village pubs were offering food. Once again, I couldn't fault the owner and feel a bit guilty giving such negative feedback, but it is only about one issue.
-
"The cottage was lovely cosy clean and quirky, and had everything we needed."
Located in a really quiet village, Clun has a few nice pubs and cafes and everyone is really friendly, can't wait to come back.
-
"Lovely cottage and great location with a direct view of Clun castle from the bedroom - perfect for evening walks by the castle and river/bridge."
Very unspoilt and friendly location, Spar 1 minute walk away with freshly baked bread.
-
"Very enjoyable stay - cottage is very nicely done up with plenty of space and an east-facing patio that is wonderful for a relaxing morning cuppa."
There was an issue with the stove door not staying shut - owner was responsive in acknowledging this needed attention. The house is right on a main road so you are aware of the traffic at the peak times. If I was being super picky it would be nice to have better lighting in the kitchen, particularly over the range. Overall though had a great week and would consider coming again.
-
"A lovely, quirky cottage in a great location for exploring the local countryside."
Very nice decor, warm and cosy. A local pub and shop at the end of the road where ideal so that essentials were available without the need for a car. A very relaxing trip...
-
"A warm traditional cottage near Clun Castle."
Very accessible to the river, beautiful walks & the local pub/cafe & shop. Everything was at hand for a restful, relaxing break. Cottage was clean & welcoming.
-
"I have been to a good number of holiday cottages and this was undoubtedly one of the best."
A really pretty, comfortable, well equiped, sympathetically decorated period cottage with loads of original features. Perfect for lovely country walks but close to Ludlow & Craven Arms for a bit of shopping. Everyone in the village is really friendly & helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to anyone.
-
"A peaceful cottage in a lovely location."
Despite Covid-19 restrictions we had a restful break with a mixture of weather.
-
"The property has a lovely location and is very comfortable."
There are nice walks nearby and more if you want to get into your car. The two local pubs are worth a visit for drinks and food, with a local Clun ale available in the White Horse. In these current times, it was very clean and there are products supplied to maintain it during the week. I would recommend going here and would happily return.
-
"Despite managing to book a week away when Storm Ciara hit, we managed to still get out and enjoy some lovely walks in the hills around Clun."
The cottage was ideal for two of us and two dogs. Very cosy and everything you needed for a nice break. The oil powered range did the job and we managed to park just across the road. We ate at both village pubs and the local shop has everything you need. Plenty of walking guides provided and really was a great spot to base ourselves - trips to Ludlow, Knighton and Bishop's Castle are all easy from Clun. We did get a taxi one night to eat at Bishop's Castle which was quite expensive (£12 each way) - the food at White Horse was just as good so save your self the cost. We would recommend the cottage and hope to return again - when it is a bit better weather!
-
"The cottage is a perfect size for a couple and 2 dogs."
We had a lovely 3 night break at the beginning of December 2019. The town of Clun is very welcoming to visitors and has good amenities. The property is located in the ideal position for plenty of long or short walks from the doorstep. The cottages internal facilities are to a very high standard and the bed is extremely comfortable. We will definitely be back.
-
"It is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location."
-
"Gorgeous bijou cottage with characterful “Stanley” for cooking and heating."
The owner had provided everything you might need. Lovely location, good pubs, friendly locals and fantastic scenery.
-
"Excellent accommodation with all the facilities required."
Lovely location with great walks and plenty of history. Loved it
-
"After a 4 hours traveling we enterd castle cottage my wife went into the bathroom she screemed theres a mouse in here and started laughing we also found a lamb on the stairs a cow above a socket on the wall and ducks above the sink on the wall ."
All nice touches just like the rest of the cottage
-
"Quite a few steps up and down in property."
Would not suit disabled or elderly but we coped and had a lovely time. The stove was a challenge but once we got it going it was great. loads of piping hot water. i would go there again.
-
"We both had a fabulous week at Castle cottage."
Clun is a great place for dog walks and the local people make you feel very welcome. Can't wait to return in January.
-
"The cottage was lovely, very comfortable."
The only negative comment I would make is the road noise. It did start quite early in the morning. Other than that, a lovely experience.
-
"Really enjoyed the weekend."
The cottage is beautiful cosy and in a lovely village
-
"It was a lovely cottage with bags of character."
The Arga was a bit tricky but fine once we worked it out, though the kitchen got very warm. I'd stay there again, Clun is a picturesque little place.
-
"Lovely cottage in a lovely village it was a shame it was on such a busy road."
-
"I have stayed at a few Sykes Cottages and all have been excellent both in presentation and facilities."
Castle Cottage was no exception. Clun is an attractive village and the cottage is within a couple of hundred yards of a good Spar supermarket, two good pubs, a smashing little coffee shop and there are lots of walks literally on the doorstep. All very dog friendly (except the supermarket) Becky was very helpful, too. Can't recommend to highly!
-
"The cottage is full of beautiful original features."
Easy access to shops and lots of walks nearby. Welcoming owner and neighbours. Great relaxing holiday
-
"Cottage lovely and warm, as it was snowing outside just right."
Owner very helpful and friendly. Everyone in village very friendly and helpful. Hope to go back in summer
-
"The cottage was lovely and cosy."
Everything was very clean and tidy. We had a lovely time as the village is very nice with lots of walks. The cottage had lots of leaflets on the walks around Clun, which was very useful and we did 2 of the walks on the leaflets during the 3 days we were there. The cottage is located in the village itself and just a couple of minutes from the castle, shop and pubs.
-
"The location was lovely; the cottage was comfy and the people in the village were exceptionally helpful and friendly."
The present and Xmas card was a nice extra touch. Cottage recommended for anyone who is looking to get away from it all.
-
"The beautiful cottage and its lovely décor and facilities were perfect for our 'getaway' break."
The village and surrounding area were excellent for walking/exploring - highly recommended!
-
"We had the best time and can't wait to return."
The cottage is so quaint and quirky, it felt like home straight away. Lots of character and decorated to a high standard. The outside patio area is private and perfect for using the BBQ. Clun has everything you could need to enjoy your stay and everyone was so friendly. Will definitely recommend.
-
"We have just returned home from a lovely break at Castle Cottage."
The cottage is very well equipped making it feel very homely. The towels provided were large & very soft, the quality of the bedding was excellent & I was impressed that there was an option to change the duvet & pillows from feather to hollow fibre if you have an allergy or just don't like feather. There are gorgeous walks right from the door & lots of information leaflets provided for things to do in the area. The paved courtyard at the back of the property is fully enclosed & very private although I would suggest cutting the hedge down in height to make the most of the lovely view. Also I think it would be a good idea to install a hosepipe to make it easier to clean up after your dog. The only negative about the cottage was the road it was situated on. We found this to be quite busy in rush hour and we were woken up everyday by the traffic noise from 6am. But this would not stop us from booking this cottage again.
-
"This is a wonderful little cottage in the heart of the village, is very comfortable and had absolutely everything we needed."
Lovely little garden space at the back and so peaceful. Highly recommended.
-
"Cottage is perfectly located to explore this part of shropshire, located in a delightful village with an inviting local pub serving good food."
-
"We loved everything about the cottage."
Felt at home from the first moment.
-
"The cottage was full of character, very comfortable and in great location."
We loved exploring the village and surrounding area.
-
"The cottage was very cosy and close to the centre of the village."
Very quiet and all the amenities you could want. The village has an excellent shop and 2 great traditional pubs who do lovely food and first class local beer. Excellent bathroom with rain shower. Super efficient wood burning stove. Large comfortable bed and plenty of wardrobe space. Thoroughly recommended.
-
"The cottage is beautiful, lovely spot for walks from the door."
Parking wasn't an issue. Very comfortable bed, furnishings etc. A range is used for the heating and cooking which we found problematic to use. Hence burned food and extreme heat with little control, instructions would help.
-
"Beautiful, quiet cottage."
Great base for visiting the surrounding areas and walks. I will definitely be booking this cottage again.
-
"Beautiful cottage in a lovely area."
Great base for a break.
-
"Great cottage and holiday; highly recommended."
-
"Very nice well equipped well located"
-
"A lovely cottage in a lovely village."
Some of the radiators need 'bleeding' but this was not a major problem for us, but would probably be in winter.
-
"The cottage was fantastic."
Great kitchen, great bathroom. Lots of little homely touches. The village was so friendly. Great meals at the local pub. Little supermarket is really well stocked. Lots of places to see around the local area. Would definitely recommend a holiday in Castle Cottage.

About the location
CLUN
Bishop's Castle 6 miles; Ludlow 18 miles.
A.E. Houseman's poem, A Shropshire Lad, defined Clun as 'the quietest place under the sun', and with its dramatic ruin of a Norman castle, Saxon church, the bustling river which flows under the 14th century pack horse bridge, and a country inn, Clun is a rural gem situated in the South Shropshire Hills. It lies on the Shropshire Way in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to the border of Wales, an area known as The Marches. This unspoilt part of Britain has an abundance of wildlife and beautiful unhindered walking and cycling routes winding their way through the countryside with the Clun and Kerry Forests, Offa's Dyke, and Kerry Ridgeway all close by. There are a wide range of festivals and shows on offer in the surrounding area throughout the year, including The Green Man festival in May. From Clun, you can also enjoy exploring the historic towns of Bishop's Castle, Presteigne, Ludlow, Shrewsbury, and Hereford, a must for visitors.
