  • "We had a lovely week here visiting the many places of interest in mid Wales and have been inspired to visit the area again."

Our favorite was the Red Kite Centre, what an amazing experience! Waking up to the birdsong was delightful and watching the house martins by day and bats by night! Whilst the property and location were absolutely lovely and the welcome items were really thoughtful, I have a few of issues to point out please. Kitchen utensils. Can opener is faulty, you need a new one and the wooden spoon has seen better days. I do a lot of home cooking so I bought a silicone spoon, spatula and tongs which I have left behind for others to use. A few smaller food prep bowls would be handy too please. Cleaning materials, only washing up liquid, hob cleaner and 2 dishwasher tablets were provided. I have had many holiday lets and Airbnb's over the years and it is customary for hosts to provide extra kitchen hand/tea towels, antibacterial, degreaser sprays, enough dishwasher tablets for the week & extra cloths, for cleaning around to maintain a satisfactory hygienic environment. These were extra items that I had to buy so I've brought them home. I always leave the kitchen immaculate and vacuum all around before leaving. No basic long lasting groceries supplied, e.g. salt & pepper, cooking oil, again I bought these and took them home. Washing machine, urgh! when I opened the machine to do a laundry load, the rubber seal and drum edge were really thick with black mold which took an age to clean off and then had to do an empty wash with antibacterial liquid to make it useable. The machine would benefit a deep clean and a note to remind folks to leave the door open to dry out. No mop and bucket to clean the kitchen floor. Flies, I'm well aware that these are to be expected living next to livestock but there was no sign of an electric fly guard nor any supply sticky fly papers as mentioned in the house. Again, I bought box of fly papers myself and left the rest for others to use.

In response to your feedback thank you for letting us know that the can opener was faulty, we would have replaced it during your stay if we had been notified. We do not supply cleaning products as there are potential dangers concerning health and safety. All other initial products are provided. There are salt and pepper pots provided and located on the kitchen table. The washing machine is used by ourselves on every changeover and has posed no problems regarding cleanliness but we take note for other guests and cleaning staff to leave the door open to avoid condensation. A mop and bucket and household broom are kept in the open door shed next to the property where also the used bin bags are stored during your stay. A vacuum cleaner is also located in the chest in the hallway. Two sticky fly papers were provided in the box underneath the kitchen sink but again if there was more needed we would have gladly brought some more. We are pleased you enjoyed this part of Mid Wales, the property and the location and hope to see you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "A really wonderful place to escape for a relaxing weekend!"

Everything has been done to a lovely standard, it feels new and fresh. Just 25mins from Newtown or Llandrindod Wells for supermarkets etc. The only small details stopping this place being 5 star are - The listing states there is a BBQ, this is a small rusted grill on top of the fire pit. I wouldn’t want to cook on it. - The listing states all towels are included however there was no hand towel in the downstairs bathroom, no bathmat in the upstairs bathroom and separate towels for the hot tub would be great! - I feel some more comfortable outdoor seating is needed such as loungers or rattan couch seating. With the gorgeous weather, it’s uncomfortable sitting at a dining chair for long periods. Still a wonderful place and I would return and recommend!

Thank you for your feedback. Just to confirm the listing does state a fire pit/bbq. Towels are provided for each person being one hand towel and one large towel and there is a bathmat in each bathroom one large upstairs and a smaller one downstairs. The furniture outside does come with cushions which are located inside the property which would have made the chairs more comfortable. Glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again. Which has been sensitively converted. A stunning setting in the bottom of a valley. Sheep in the field abutting the boundary fence, nothing but open countryside to admire. Love it! Super peaceful. The hot tub is fab. With the lights turned off at night, we enjoyed star gazing. The only slight negative is that there's not a great deal to do around that area with kids, but if you want tranquility in bucket loads, this is the place. We will return again.

  • "Problems Experienced with our Holiday."

Front Door was insecure/not working. Unable to unlock and open or lock and secure. Bulb missing and Host was unable to replace. Shower Hose Broken. Very weak water pressure in both showers. Drainage problems - both in Shower and Kitchen Sink. This must be an ongoing issue and there was a plunger for the Sink close by. Main Blind in Living Area not working. High Standards Expected of Guests - outlined in the 'Welcome Pack' - yet High Standards not provided by Hosts. Strict Recycling Protocols but yet No Bin Bags. Only 1 spare Food Bag provided - for a family of 5 for 1 week. (These aren't things guests are able to bring as they are council provided.) Only 3 Dishwasher Tablets for a 7 Night Stay meaning we were unable to use the Dishwasher, with a large family we spent a lot of time washing dishes rather than enjoying time together. Toilet Seat upstairs is peeling away, very badly. Clean Towels provided were very smelly and not fit for use. Outside - All around the property was extremely slippery and dangerous to walk on. We couldn't let the children outside to play or explore as it was like an Ice Rink, with leaves and Slippery Algae. Outside light not working sufficiently which meant it was a struggle to go outside as soon as it got Dark, around 4pm. Hot Tub was dirty when we arrived. With Grit/Sand all in the bottom and on the seats. Grime was all around the Hot Tub. The staps were all broken and the Bar to lift the lid wasn't working. Very Rusty and Loose. The property felt very tired. We contacted the Host on Arrival to highlight some initial problems and we didn't have a response back. Not even the following day. The Host did turn up, unannounced, whilst we were in the Hot Tub. She verbally acknowledged our message from the previous evening and did hand us some Teaspoons that we had requested. We had to leave the Hot Tub so chemicals could be added. I feel a polite message in response to our message would have been welcomed. Or even a heads up to say they were on route to top the chemicals and supply Teaspoons. But communication was poor. Nothing was mentioned about the Door/Security issue. We contacted Sykes Cottages on Saturday. We were informed they would try and get hold of the Host and call us back. We didn't hear anything from either the Host if Tynddol Barn or Sykes Cottages so we had little other choice but to cut our Holiday short and Return home 2 days early. This has been very disappointing. I feel the advertised holiday property was very misleading. We were mis sold this holiday and are feeling extremely disappointed. *OWNER HAS NOW RESPONDED AND CLAIMED £185 FOR BROKEN HOT TUB HANDLE THAT WAS ALREADY BROKEN* NO RESPONSE TO OTHER PROBLEMS.

In reply to the feedback the wooden double doors works fine with unlocking and locking and beside the fact there is another single entry door and triple bi-fold doors. We were unable to replace a bulb in a lamp during the stay because it had to be ordered and was not in stock locally. The pressure in both showers is working perfectly and there are no problems whatsoever with the drainage of both shower and sink. Initial bin bags are provided and any other bags etc Sykes advises guests to bring extra according to their needs. The dishwasher was used during the stay because on entering the property after the departure clean dishes etc were apparent in the dishwasher. CLEAN towels and linen are always provided and the host did see guests using the towels when visiting the property to check the hot tub. Five outside lights work sufficiently well all around the property. At this particular time of year there are a lot of falling leaves on the patio from nearby trees. The lifting bar seemed to be broken at some point during. It was noted there was only 3 teaspoons and 5 more were brought the next day. It was also noted that the host was never informed that the property had been left early and was left unlocked and insecure for most of a day and all night to the next middle day. Hot tub cleaned and refilled prior to your arrival. Property Owner

The hot tub was an added bonus which we loved. Comfortable beds and the decor was understated and calming, just what we needed. The barn was lovely inside and out and the age range of the group was 2- 68years and it suited us all. Even the weather, it rained all weekend, could not spoil the venue. The kitchen had all we needed except oven mitts which meant using the oven difficult. Also no tea towels, I appreciate these are not always provided and there was a dishwasher. The owner answered a query promptly. We would have liked to stay longer. A fantastic stay and I would definitely recommend.

The setting is wondrous in that it is so quiet apart from hearing some sheep running a couple of mornings being chased by a sheepdog - but who wouldn't want to hear that? The lovely living space was so cosy of a night time with the blinds closed and the lamps on with the four of us all glued to our favourite seat on the couch with either a glass of something alcoholic or a humble tea/coffee. The beds were to die for, literally, they were like heaven. But the most fabulous facility would have to be the best hot tub we have ever been in - it kept its temperature throughout the day/night, it was so clean, and it was all ours for seven exhilarating days and nights - please don't pass this place by without giving it a good look over as you would never be disappointed.

We always take our own towels for hot tub any way,so had to use those for everything. We also lacked food recycling bags and spare rubbish bags.Considering this was meant for 6 people !!! The owner also kept turning the hot tub down.It was situated outdoors in the middle of winter. We had a disabled person with us and, while in use,the temp.drops a few degrees anyway....he came out shivering one day and after that ,we had to keep checking it hadn't been turned down. Apart from that, it was a lovely, clean, comfortable and well appointed home from home.Very cosy and enjoyable.

Thank you for your feedback. In response to your comments towels have not been provided since the covid situation and this is stated on the property website. The towels will be re-introduced shortly. Initial food recycling and rubbish bags are provided and Sykes do inform guests advising them to bring additional bags as needed. With regard to the hot tub it is checked and maintained with correct chemicals daily and regarding the temperature it is maintained at the correct temperature on every visit of 37c. The garden and setting was beautiful and was ideal for my 2 yr old granddaughter . The hot tub was lovely too. The only negative thing was the amount of flies in and outside of the property. You expect some flies because you are out in the countryside but this was a major issue. We were lucky it wasn’t hot because we couldn’t leave the doors open and the evening were a lot worse, we had to use the hot tub in the day due to being bitten alive. This is why I haven’t given it 5 stars but if they could resolve the fly issue I would definitely go back.

Was just what we needed. Only few little niggles (front door lock seems to be on the way out and the upstairs shower fittings were a bit loose) but otherwise perfect. The kitchen was also full of flies most of the time which was a bit irritating but that’s just a function of being in the countryside / in a farm! We got some fly swats and made a sport out of it.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your valuable feedback. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay and we are sorry to hear there were a few niggles. We have checked the front door lock and confirmed that is in perfect condition, it appears the wrong key was used during your stay which is what may have resulted in the lock appearing not to function. The property was nice and isolated so it was nice to play music and drink late at night without worrying about noise. Full facilities were available in the property including wifi and there is a smart tv in the living area where there is also a log burner and wood available. The hot tub was lovely and warm for the duration of our stay, I think it was 13 amp so unsure how it would be in the winter. The only issue we had with it was the amount of flies outside which seemed to want to jump in but there is obviously nothing the owner can do about this, the property is after all surrounded by farming, maybe just a skimmer to get them out would be good as the filter wasn't able to keep on top. Inside the property flies weren't an issue as suggested on other posts and there is a fly zapper in the kitchen anyway. Unfortunately you cant get takeaway here but its only a 20 minute drive into town so you can get food here and there is also a Tesco and Morrisons. The drive is nice to get there too. There are lots of pans, cutlery, plates ect in the kitchen. I would just suggest bringing plastic cups to drink around the hot tub.

Overall a very high 9/10. Areas of improvement/Suggestions to Sykes and property owner: There was a slight oversight in the loo roll department with only 2 rolls in the entire property with 5 guests staying for 5 days and 4 nights. By day 3 we could see that we were going to run out and had to find somewhere local to purchase additional loo roll because there were none extra in the property. Ideally the property should keep extra loo roll on the property or at least mention in the information pack (emailed to guests) to bring extra loo roll like they did on the rubbish bags (there was a clear message saying the property owner does not know how much rubbish you will throw away, so please bring additional bags which we did). Due to this being a new and isolated location we had planned to not need to leave until the day we were due to depart. Anyways, this is something that can easily be fixed for future guests. Finally none of the Televisions up stairs worked. This was not a big deal but again I feel it's worth informing guest before arrival to manage expectations.

From the minute we walked in it felt like home with the extra amenities such as a lovely hot tub & log burner. The picture's online don't do the place justice since it was much larger than we initially thought. The location is also fantastic since you are roughly 20 minute's between the town's of Newtown and Llandrindod Wells which have Tesco, Aldi & Lidl for supermarket's along with pub's and bar's. It's also a great spot to view the Red Kite's and the odd barn owl if you enjoy bird watching whilst sat at the dining table through the bi-folding doors. This holiday home is a credit to the current owners! The cleanliness and quality finish is among the best you will find in a holiday let. We are already planning a winter break here (hopefully in the snow).

  • "We had a lovely holiday."

The cottage is very secluded, hot tube was lovely. If you like nature then this is the place for you. The only problem was the amount of flies which meant you couldn’t open the windows or doors.

Thank you for feedback. I'm afraid flies and inspects become more apparent in hot and humid weather and this is beyond our control. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "The holiday was fantastic."

The added extras like the tea, coffee, games, dvds and kitchen items was a nice added touch. The hot tub was amazing. The barn was clean spacious and cosy. The only issue was the amount of flies there were. I know the owners have no control over this and I'm not saying it's there fault. However they caused a massive stress on the holiday.

Thank you for your feedback. We do provide fly spray and fly strips but however other preventative measures can be introduced such as keeping kitchen surfaces clean, putting food away timely and dealing with rubbish appropriately. Glad you otherwise enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

We all loved it! The barn is stunning, as are its surroundings. It’s lovely and peaceful and very private. we never saw a cloud in the sky for the whole week which was a bonus and allowed us to spend most of the day outdoors. It’s quite a drive to get anywhere but we were fully expecting this so it was not a problem. The village of Rahayder was around half an hour away and we spent 2 lovely days there in it’s beautiful parks. Also Aberystwyth is around an hours drive away and is also worth the visit. The owners were very helpful when needed. We will definitely visit again, our boys talk about how much they loved ‘their holiday home’ all the time!

Immaculate interior with lovely gardens & views. The hot tub was a great addition & the kids used this everyday - even in the snow! Expect to drive at least 30-45 mins to get to shops, pubs etc. There is a more local pub just down the road but we didn’t fancy it. The approach to the cottage is along a very narrow country lane - we were ok with a 4 wheel drive especially as it was snowing & icy - this could be a problem for smaller cars.
