The property has everything one would need in a holiday home. It's a clean property, spacious downstairs and sufficient space upstairs. A wet day was made easier with large TV and WiFi, and there was plenty of space outside for the car and a garden to enjoy too. The property makes for a short trip to both Harlech and Barmouth as well as being a short walk from an excellent butchers and a cafe. Owners provided a nice care package of Welsh goods and there were staples in the property so we could function on arrival. Key instructions were nice and simple too. We wouldn't hesitate to book again. We had a fantastic week.

Property could have been cleaner most things could do with a good wipe down and double mattress was very uncomfortable, my partner and I actually alternated nights in the bunk bed with our son to get a good night's sleep. Double mattress definitely needs replacing. Overall we were happy with our stay and enjoyed our time at the property.

The cottage was clean and with a good secure garden for dogs. Pleased to see a small freezer added plus carpet runner on stairs which are steep which needs to be noted for people with any form of mobility problems plus bathroom and bedroom a bit of a squeeze, this is a quaint old Welsh cottage so which is to be expected. There was a lovely welcome basket on a arrival. A spa shop and butchers within a five minute walk . Would recommend.

We absolutely love the cottage and so do our dogs, it's great value, practical, cosy and homely. For us It's in the perfect spot, with woods and fields almost straight out of the door and beaches within easy walking distance, also shops and the garage about 100yards up the road. If you don't drive the cottage is easy to reach from the train station. There are plenty of nice pubs a short distance away, we had a very good Sunday lunch at The Victoria Hotel Llanbedr, which allows dogs inside. Barmouth and Harlech. are lovely towns to visit. The cottage has everything you need, the beds are comfy, the shower works well. The heating is fine, just check the dial behind the door in the front room and turn up if it's cold. The cottage has a large parking area and a nice garden. We were delighted with the welcome pack, which included the best bottle of wine either of us has ever tasted. We returned home relaxed and restored.

  • "2 Borthwen is an attractive property in a good location just off the main street."

Arriving on a busy weekend access off the High Street by the butchers is tricky. The first property on the left park 3 cars there leaving a very narrow space to enter. Anything other than a medium sized car would struggle at such times. There was parking either side of the junction as well at different times making visibility poor to pull out onto the main street at busy times The property is semi detached & parking for both is at the frontage of 2 Borthwen so this affects privacy & security for dogs if, as is permitted, the adjoining property had up to 3 cars. Any cars from the adjoining property need to open the gates to use the parking area anyway. The gates can be left open but only if dogs, young children won't be using the outside space. The small garden needs a lot of attention & looks nothing like the photograph. Internally, the external door to the main room can't be opened fully, nor can the one to the bathroom which was very frustrating. The main room is set out in a basic way with almost no decorative touches. Lamps (other than the harsh lighting of the industrial standard lamp) would add ambience. The floor, whilst safe underfoot, looks shabby & needs refurbishment. The garden equipment stored in the open under stairs space adds nothing to the feel of the space. The stairs are steep, slightly uneven & the handrail is inadequate. This should be mentioned in the description. Upstairs is cramped but to be expected due to the age of the property. The kitchen has the basics. Standard of cleaning seemed adequate although the internal section of the external door frames (visible when the doors are open) was very dirty.

It's in an area we know well and with our dogs we had some lovely walks to the beach about a mile away. The cottage met all our requirements and was cosy and comfortable (we brought our own logs as they're not provided). It was clean and had everything we needed. The instructions for the cooker were useful as we normally cook with gas. The central heating was easy to use, it's set on eco so tends to revert back to that after a shortish while, so if still cold just check it and turn up again if needed. We had surprisingly good weather and were even able to sit in the lovely garden without being rained on. The cottage is very private with good parking space, plenty of room for the camper van we travelled in. We will definitely be coming back.

It’s a great location for getting around snowdonia, 11 mins drive from Harlech. The cottage is very pretty with off street parking that is gated. It has a lovely garden and patio, we ate on the patio every evening that the weather permitted. The cottage was very clean, a great big tv, Wi-Fi that worked the entire week which is important these days. The beds and the bedding all very comfortable as were the sofas. We liked Wales and this cottage and will be booking this cottage again next year. A couple of comments prior to this mentioned it was cold. The weather was not cold enough for us to require heating so I can’t comment on that. There is no washing machine which was a little surprising and also no freezer. Both of these are small inconveniences and as long as one knows in advance are fine. It was a great cottage, great location, nicely and comfortably furnished. Thank you it was a great week.

  • "2 Borthwen Cottages is a delightful little cottage and perfectly placed for exploring the surrounding area."

I would definitely recommend and would not be averse to staying again. We had our Jack Russell with us and so it was wonderful that we had a safe garden for him. We made the mistake of leaving the gates open one evening when we went out and came back to a driveway covered in sheep droppings so we had obviously had visitors whilst we were out. Just be aware of this (any future stayers) as how we avoided treading in it in the dark I'll never know. You will need a car if you are wanting to go out for meals / drinks although you could probably stretch to a half hour walk to Ysgethin. That said, nothing is too far away. The beds and bedding were very comfortable although the double bed did feel like a very small double. There are no wardrobes but there are plenty of hooks on the walls to hang clothes with some hangers provided. The kitchen and bathrooms are very small although the shower is a great size. A couple of times we could have done with the heating turning up but despite following the instructions it would not allow us to go higher than the preset temperature. We had good weather but this would be a problem in colder months. The driveway area could definitely do with a tidy up and the lawn area could do with a couple of hours spent in it. There is no washing machine, there is no room for one in the cottage, but could perhaps have one put in the outside shed maybe? We had friends staying down the road so managed to use theirs a couple of times. Could also do with possibly a few more plates / glasses etc but that's being really picky. Definitely worth a visit and would stay again.

It was overgrown, only the grass was cut. Buckets, mops were left outside in an untidy manner. However, it is clear to see that this property was either lived in by the owners therefore they kitten out in chartiy shop goods or inherited by a relative. The reasons we say this are due to the poor furnishings i.e. in the bedroom there was a random floral eye mask, floral photo frame (with no photo) and some pine cones? There was a light up portable electric mirror which was broken (didn't light up), only 1 lamp in the bedroom (no lamp in spare bedroom), one office style lamp in the lounge. When we arrived under the stairs which was open plan i.e. no door, the hoover was dumped in full view along with the parasol for the garden and garden seat pads? In addition, in the lounge their was a horrible wooden box with stones in (looks like someone had collected from the beach), a trinket box which contained picture hooks and some horrible horse head bookends. There was a lack of heating instructions in the cottage - no cottage book with instructions and when we tried to adjust the heating it was in Dutch? In addition, the cleaning of the cottage was poor, when we arrived we picked up at least 8 piles of dog mess from the garden. We contacted the owners about this but they didn't seem too bothered about it, it put us off. We've stayed in many cottages and this one was nice i.e. the actual cottage, however, there was poor attention to detail by the owners. A washing machine and hairdryer would also be useful.

Easy walks from the cottage to the beach through woodland/along a lane - takes about 20 minutes. Beach is very long and has sand dunes so brilliant for walking. Winter time is obviously quieter with less choice of places to visit/eat at (particularly when you have 2 hounds) but we found the pub at Talybont (20min walk) very welcoming & serving good food.

The stairs took a bit of getting used too as the steps were narrow and a bit steep which was not in description of cottage so people with a mobility disability it could be a bit tricky. There was a bonus of a down stairs toilet so less trips up stairs. We would highly recommend this cottage if you want a quiet get away.

  • "The little cottage is a beautiful place with much attention to detail."

The moment you step in you are overwhelmed with the cozy atmosphere. At least to us it was that way. A nice 30 minute walk takes you to the beach with marvellously wide sands. Many great walks are within half an hour of driving. There's a small but well equipped supermarket some minutes by foot and still the place is quiet. And it's perfect for dog keepers. The large garden is sorrounded by little walls and gated so that the dogs can play there and won't get out. We really enjoyed our stay there.

  • "Lovely country cottage in a quiet secluded area, though not far from the main road."

Plenty of parking space and outside sitting options including a lawned garden. Steep stairs which could be difficult if you have a mobility problem, though there is a ground floor toilet as well. All the facilities you would expect are fitted into the small cottage, be prepared for no dishwasher, washing machine or hairdryer, but if your staying for a week, that isn't really a problem. There were 2 of us and a dog, I expect it would be a little cosier with 4 people. Wifi worked well. Easy driving South to Barmouth and North to Llanbedr, Harlech, and on to Port Marion & Porthmadog. Its longer than a quick walk, but a short drive to the beautiful beaches is recommended. Thanks to Bho and Jayne for making us most welcome, I would recommend a stay at 2 Borthwen cottages

  • "Very nice cottage."

Not as close to the beach as expected. Constructive criticisms are as follows... no heating instructions. No logs for fire or utensils for the fire, no big deal but it was march and cold. I bought logs etc but would of liked to have cleaned the fire after myself. I absolutely loved the tranquillity and it's perfectly decorated and comfortable. I had a perfect weekend thank you

  • "We've had a most enjoyable holiday at the cottage , even two days of snow didn't spoil it !"

The cottage is set in a very quiet little lane and gives the feeling of being way out in the countryside and yet just two minutes walk away is a well stocked shop and butchers and a petrol station The cottage is really quaint and cosy and has a huge secure garden which was perfect for our two dogs . The welcome basket was a lovely touch with a bottle of wine and bara brith and hot chocolate and coffee sachets I would definitely recommend this cottage it's perfect in every way

  • "This was an absolutely stunning cottage set in a beautiful, quiet village."

The cottage itself was modern whilst keeping it's cottage type charm with wooden beams and log burner. It had a big garden and drive way. We loved every minute of our Christmas stay and would definitely recommend it. The only criticism (for want of a better word as it certainly isn't a complaint) is that the logs were wet and therefore wouldn't light in the log burner. It was a little disappointing as we always make sure there is a log burner when we book a place to stay but not the end of the world as we went a bought some instead. Thank you for our best Christmas ever.
