So well equipped with gorgeous views across Lake Bala. Norah and Dylan were fantastic. Both really helpful and told us everything we needed to know, communication was fantastic. I honestly couldn’t find anything to fault with this property and wouldn’t hesitate to go back!

  • "Wow! This cottage is so beautiful!"

It feels so welcoming and friendly. The views are outstanding. I stayed with friends and we all fell I love with Ffynnon Gower. It was a long weekend and we agreed we wanted to stay much longer! The kitchen is well appointed with everything you need and Nora had even left some treats for us (and milk!) for that all important first cup of tea when you arrive. Dylan keeps the gardens immaculate and the trees and flowers are a delight. The back garden is a great size and if you jave children would be fab for them to run around. We did find the mattresses a bit firm, but that's just personal preference. As a group of friends it was great to have an extra downstairs loo. I needed a venue to run a handfasting 'commitment' ceremony for friends from the US who fell in love at Bala. We asked the owners, who were so kind and obliging, so our friends had the stunning backdrop of Bala Lake - it was magical! Book Ffynnon Gower - you won't be disappointed! Can't wait to stay again. The doors locked firmly so we felt secure as women friends staying there. The road from Bala does go single track in places but plenty of passing places - just drive sensibly - it isn't bad at all and only a short driveway from the road to the cottage. P.s. King Arthur's Labyrinth in Machynlleth is about 40 mins away and an incredible tourist attraction with lots of craft shops.

  • "The security off the property was a joke, the doorknob was unstable the bedroom window wouldn't close & was broken."

We didn't feel safe and we didn't feel our property was secure. The kitchen wasn't clean I had to wash the crockery & cutlery we wanted to use a serving spoon had marmalade on it! The patio was cordoned off & had grass & corn 2 feet high growing in it. The back of the property which had an outhouse with a door that had a gap between door frame & door. There was a downstairs toilet in the outhouse which wasn't very good & the sink was all brown which wasn't very pleasant. The area in front of the back door was all cracked & broken. The back of the property was not shown on any photos on the Sykes website because if it had we would never have booked it. All in all the property appeared to be rundown & neglected. If my husband could have driven home again we would not have stayed one night. We are pensioners who save all year for our holiday & we feel really upset and disappointed.

We were very disappointed to hear that you were not satisfied with your stay at the cottage. The people who stayed directly before, and after you left such praise and compliments, however, we did consider the points you raised. We have addressed all of the concerns in your review. We were pleased to hear that you were happy with our resolution. Property Owner

  • "That view! We had a beautiful sunny week so could take full advantage of the garden and the amazing view of the lake, watching the sunset in the evenings."

Had a food shop delivered so no need to go out searching for a waterside pub/restaurant - this couldn't be beaten, athought think we were incredibly fortunate with the weather. Found plenty of places to visit, Snowdonia, Ffestiniog railway, Betwy-y-Coed to name a few and even the driving was a pleasure with no traffic, although the 10 min drive along the narrow lane to get to the property was a bit nerve wracking at times until the bushes were cut back. Property served our needs with all we needed, bed comfy, although if wind and rain imagine the single glazed windows (listed building) might struggle. Hope to return - can we book the sun again too?!

Idyllically located close to Bala Lake, next to a very quiet lane and a steam train line, the cottage overlooks the lake and the Snowdonia National Park in the distance. The cottage is very clean and comfy with quirks that come with its age! Wifi is a bit sketchy but that is the joy of being in a rural area and helps with the disconnect from normal life!! It is a home from home. There is an abundance of local wildlife so take your binoculars!

This time the weather was glorious and we were able to make good use of the garden watching the water sport going on on the lake and watching the Bala Lake railway go by. We were able to do the rail trip and it was well worth doing. The cottage is ideally situated we went to Trevor Basin near Llangollen which was only 21 miles away and as we were there on a Saturday all the pretty painted canal boats were there.

  • "The pictures on the internet really do not do this property justice."

The views are amazing. The property was a lot larger than we expected. The drying room/downstairs toilet/store was an absolute godsend. It is mentioned on the website but only as a passing comment - it’s the full length of the back of the property. The only thing we could suggest is the picnic table outside could do with being replaced as it’s getting a bit old and rickety. The location is remote with no other properties around about and no shops/pubs in walking distance but this suited us down to the ground. Plenty of places to visit in the area. Nice warm welcome from Dylan the owner and then we were left to enjoy our stay. We paid a lot more for this cottage than we would usually due to covid tax which annoyed me greatly when I booked it but we’ve had a fantastic holiday and made some more fab family memories.

  • "An umbrella for the picnic table and remembering to take some fans would have made this location perfect."

Gorgeous view with lake, mountains, steam train and jets every day. Walks on the doorstep and Bala up the road (close enough but far enough to avoid crowds and noise). Ideal to alternate peaceful days with activities like white water rafting and zip wires in amazing scenery. Perhaps it has been a series of lockdowns that has made us appreciate what we have here. Personally I like a big plump pillow but the others didn’t have a problem with theirs.

  • "As the Lake view is stunning it would be very hard not to tick the location box."

It is a couple of miles drive down a narrow windy path so you aren’t walking into Bala in a hurry )not that we expected to). I found that the cottage is far bigger than it looks in the pictures and actually the images don’t do it justice. It’s a beautiful holiday home. We stayed with our two children aged 6 and 3 and they enjoyed running around the garden and walking up the field/ hillside over the back to see the sheep. Maybe the addition of a cheeky swing or slide in the garden to the side would attract those with kids as that’s something I’d usually look for, but I’m sure Nora and Dylan don’t struggle with bookings. We would stay here again. The owner Dylan was very pleasant when we met him to exchange keys. The 9am departure was tricky with the kids but understandable given the current climate. A stunning break with lots of wildlife especially birds of prey to be spotted on your back yard!

Ffynnon Gower is like a home from home and so totally peaceful - well, apart from the sheep, the smorgasboard of wildlife and the steam train! Take a pair of binoculars and some bird food, as we were astounded at the number of different birds that come into the garden! The cottage is located virtually on the edge of Lake Bala so the scenery is stunning and ever changing. Very comfy king bed in the large main bedroom but mind your head on the way up the stairs and into the bathroom!! The log burning stove in the lounge made for lovely cosy evenings once the weather had turned a little colder! There is so much to go see in that part of Wales that we didn't get to do it all but definitely visit the local shops in Bala - especially the butchers!! We will be returning to Ffynnon Gower!

We were staying there in the extremely wet and windy week of Storm Dennis, so spent more time indoors than we would usually do on a Welsh holiday, but with the lovely views from every window and plenty of comfortable accommodation we were content. In the rare glimmers of sunshine we saw how beautiful the area is, although it lacks the more dramatic scale of other parts of Snowdonia, and we would have loved to explore more of it on foot. As it was, we kept mainly to tracks rather than footpaths as the ground was so saturated. Having the Bala Lake Railway at the end of the garden was a pleasure and we took an enjoyable round trip from Llangower station, and our son enjoyed some local colour watching a Bala Town football match. Great cottage. Lovely break.
