  • "I booked the property thinking it was detached, It looked like it was online and even said so on other booking sites I have unique requirements require such a property and so was extremely disappointed to find out it was not as described."

It ruined my holiday as a result for lack of/misleading information

I am sorry to hear about your experience. I was not informed that you had unique requirements when you made the booking , which meant that you can only occupy a detached property. I would like to point out though that there is no misleading information on the Sykes website, there is no claim that the property is detached. Bodywen and house next to it are built of stone and the wall between the 2 properties is about 3 feet thick, which minimises sound transmission. Property Owner

This is not usually the case in many holiday rentals it was also very warm and cosy and set in a stunning valley No kindling or wood supplied which was the only negative.

Thank you for your lovely review. I am sorry about the lack of firewood and kindling. It has been quite warm this month and I generally supply firewood and kindling from October until April. I do let guests know that they can purchase these items from the local post office in Pen-y-Bont-Fawr if required. Property Owner

  • "The property was perfect apart from the dogs next door every morning you could hear them barking which would then set our two dogs off so no laying in for us, we did enjoy our stay and the scenery around wales is beautiful we did find that alot of tourist attractions are not dog friendly so that was disappointing for us so limited to what we could do , this is the first time we have struggled with that been everywhere else in the UK and I would say near 98% we were allowed to take dogs into tourist attractions so as much as we loved the scenery we wouldn't come back to Wales."

I have been letting Bodywen for 7 years and I have never received any feedback or complaint in that time about the neighbour's dogs, who are well behaved. I am sorry that this was your experience. Property Owner

Good size rooms. Stairs a little steep, but not an issue for us. The mattress in the double bedroom was too soft for us, but that is personal preference. Great that each bedroom has en-suite facilities . Excellent kitchen , plenty of utensils etc, plus there’s a useful drying room. Helpful instructions sent to us by the owner prior to our stay., plus there is a folder with all the information you need in the cottage. No mobile phone signal in the cottage, but there is Wi-Fi. Great location, plenty of walks near by and plenty of lovely places to drive to. We were able to park 2 medium sized cars on the driveway, and lock the gates behind them. No shops in the village, but we had a day out at Llangollen, which is well worth a visit, and we stocked up on groceries there. Would definitely recommend to others for a peaceful break away.

Small issues included half toilet rolls in bathrooms (although some lose ones were provided), little or no soap in the bathrooms and light bulbs either missing or not suitable for use (twin bedroom very dull in the room and also in the bathroom). The drive is suitable for two smaller cars and secure, be aware that it is immediately off the road. The owner sent helpful instructions and guidance prior to our stay and the bats over the garden at night were a fabulous bonus. We would definitely stay again as the location was central for exploring and only around an hour to most popular destinations.

The garden was well maintained and nice to be in. However we did feel that it should be mentioned that the house would not suit some people who had any difficulties with steps and stairs. The drive was not very easy to accommodate two cars. The house is advertised as detached when it clearly isn’t. There were 4 lots of dog mess in the garden which we had to clear up and there are conflicting instructions for when to put out the green bin. We have booked with Sykes Holidays for many years and although we had a pleasant holiday at Bodywen I feel these issues need pointing out.

Only down side for us, it was a little out of the way for things we normally like to do and needed to drive, however this was in the description when booking. The pub at the end of the road, leaves something to be desired, old, tied and dirty so you would need to drive to a more comfortable drink. However, this takes nothing away from the beautiful cottage

Thankyou for your lovely review of the cottage. The pub in Llangynog used to be very pleasant and served good food and it is a shame that it seems to have gone downhill. There are other nice, clean and friendly pubs that serve good food within 5 miles of the cottage - The Railway Inn at Pen-y-Bont-Fawr , The Hand Inn and the Wynnstay Arms in Llanrhaeadr with The Green Inn at Llangedwyn and The Goat Inn in Llanfyllin approximately 9 miles away. Everyone was so friendly and we're happy for us to join in on the Halloween celebrations, we had fun decorating your front gate. Was such a bonus to have a bathroom each, the cottage had a cosy feel to it and we didn't want to leave! My only feedback would be to put on the description that you have feather bedding, we had two members of our party who have a slight allergy to feathers, and even with antihistamine it can bring on cold type symptoms, we bought our own pillows just in case, wasn't an issue, just not often we get feather in holiday accommodation so didn't think to ask. Otherwise completely faultless, already looking at dates for next year.

Thank you for your lovely review, we were so pleased to hear you had such wonderful time at Bodywen, on checking with the owner they have confirmed that all the bedding in the property is Dacron Allerban Anti Allergenic, therefore guests with feather allergies or sensitivities need not worry or bring their owner bedding. Loved the large kitchen and master bathroom. The garden was a sun trap too with views of hills all around. My family took advantage of many walks around the local area. We also visited Portmeirion, Barmouth, Llangollen and Anglesey. The views whilst driving in the area are fantastic. It is an hour at least to get to any of these places although Lakes Bala and Vyrnwy are closer. We ate substantial meals at the pub over the road on two evenings but otherwise catered for ourselves. Only negatives are lack of mobile reception in the area although WiFi worked. Also needed to buy oven gloves as none supplied plus we couldn’t find a BBQ although it was listed. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage!

Having three ensuite bathrooms was a real bonus when getting ready. The location of the cottage is lovely, however it is at least an hour to most major locations along some narrow roads, the scenary is beautiful and the garden at the cottage very nice to sit out on at the end of a busy day. The kitchen made for a wonderful family space at mealtimes and was very well equipped and with plenty of cupboard space. The utility area was an unexpected bonus. The main lounge was cosy in the evenings when we were all relaxing together. The second lounge wasn't needed but had we had a rainy week I'm sure we would have got plenty of use out of it. The upstairs accommodation is equally lovely though my mum who was sharing the twin with my daughter struggled for space and kept banging her head in the ensuite whenever she used the loo. I banged my head quite a few times too in the big bathroom. (None of us are tall I might add.) The beds were extremely comfortable and everything was very clean and tastefully decorated. We had glorious weather for the week we were there and so we were out every day in the sunshine. Time spent in the cottage was fairly minimal and mainly centred around food prep, mealtimes and evenings playing board games with the kids or watching a DVD. We all loved the house and particularly the entrance hall with its unusual features. When we reluctantly returned home, it turned out my daughter had left behind something rather precious to her. About the location

LLANGYNOG

Bala 13.2 miles; Shrewsbury 32.4 miles

The pleasant village of Llangynog lies in the breath-taking rolling countryside of North Powys on the banks of the River Tanat amidst the beautiful Berwyn Mountains, and surrounding wooded hills and valleys. The area has a history of lead, silver, and slate mining, dating back to the 17th century but today it is a renowned location for climbing, birdwatching, walking, and cycling, with famous mountain bike trails near Dolgellau, and a mountain bike centre at Llandegla. To dine out there is the New Inn, a traditional pub, which enjoys scenic views of the Snowdonia Mountain range, and a short drive will lead you to a well-stocked Post Office to stock up on the essentials. Visit the historic market town of Bala for an action-packed day, where you can take up climbing, abseiling, mountain biking, as well as canoeing and kayaking on the glacial lake; it is a wonderful beauty spot, with excellent fishing and a variety of water sports, or perhaps visit Lake Vyrnwy, which has an RSPB centre and a sculpture park. Also, within easy reach is Llanrhaeadr Waterfall, the tallest single drop waterfall in England and Wales, or cross over the border into Shropshire to explore the town of Shrewsbury, steeped in history with its Grade I castle. This is a beautiful part of the country and is perfect for touring the rest of North and Mid Wales and Shropshire.
