"Loved this place, views are amazing property was the best we've ever stayed in for facilities and good quality equipment."
Welcome package nice touch. The advice I would let others know is if you have a dog you are restricted to go for short exercise walks as no public paths down the front. But that shouldn't put you off. And as it can be farely busy road in the day it's a bit precarious. I had to guide partner out as there is a bush outfront that can obscure what's coming round a slight bend. But I would highly recommend staying there and I would do so again.
Hello Tracy. It is good to know that you enjoyed the cottage and the spectacular scenery. As you found dog walking just outside the cottage next to the road side does require some care. However, there are very many wonderful dog friendly lanes and tracks just nearby. We hope you managed to find some pretty and quiet walks Best wishes Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Extremely helpful owner Home from home cottage with everything we needed for a perfect holiday."
Garden and views amazing in an area within reach of so many places to visit. Don't miss this part of Wales, our third visit and we will return.
We are so pleased Sandra that you enjoyed your week at Haulfryn, despite a rather wet September. I think you experienced some dry days to explore more interesting places in the area. As you have discovered, this part of Wales is rather special with so many wonderful places to visit nearby and beyond. The garden is still looking good but now entering "Autumn mode" but is still full of interest. We hope you are able to return sometime. Best wishes. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"We had a lovely time at the cottage, everything we needed, lovely and clean and comfortable, beautiful surroundings."
Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again
Thank you Kay for your positive comments following your week at Haulfryn. September is usually a change from summer into Autumn and we attempt to keep the gardens looking good and the area is always spectacular any time of the year. Diolch yn Fawr. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"The cottage is beautiful and so are the gardens."
Everything is so well maintained and the cottage is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. We enjoyed sitting in the garden with a coffee and puzzle book or book...and enjoyed the fantastic scenery. We also enjoyed watching the birds and at night I could hear an owl. The walks around the cottage are amazing and we also enjoyed visiting the beaches at Barmouth and Tywyn. We had a lovely time and enjoyed our stay.
Thank you Naomi for your comments following your week at Haulfryn. As you discovered,we are enthusiastic gardeners and despite the elevated terraces above the cottage we try to have the extensive gardens looking attractive throughout the year. There is so much to enjoy in the area and a good base to explore other parts of Wales. We hope you are able to return sometime in the future. Our best wishes. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Beautiful and well equipped cottage."
Lovely location and well kept gardens.
Thank you Trevor for your comments. We are pleased you enjoyed the cottage, the garden and the location. As you discovered there are so many wonderful places to visit very close to Haulfryn. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Very comfy and cosy cottage wonderful views and beautiful garden, quite a few cobwebs but other than that it was lovely"
Thank you Susan for your feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed the cottage and the wonderful views and the garden. We must apologise for the few cobwebs you found in the cottage. As you know, it is an old stone cottage with many interesting "nooks and crannies" which the spiders love to hide! They seem to come into the cottage particularly with wet weather! We will have to be busier with the feather duster! Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Wonderful cottage."
Wonderful facilities. Terrific area to explore. However, steep steps up to the cottage from the road. Slate on top of the steps that are very slippery when wet and no hand rail. I slipped coming down and injured my knee which rather curtailed my activities for the rest of the stay. I would advise not using this route but come from the drive and not park in layby as advised.

"Excellent cottage in a beautiful spot"
Thank you Clive and Ena for your kind response following another visit to Haulfryn. As you have discovered there are so many beautiful and interesting places to visit in and around Llangynog. If the weather is not so good I hope you found pleasure in the cosy comfort of the cottage and enjoyed the garden and the variety of birds visiting the bird feeders. Diolch yn Fawr. Chris and Liz. "This was our third stay in Haulfryn."
Highly recommend for the fabulous views and gardens . Very cosy, comfortable and warm cottage. Can’t wait to return again . Thankyou to Chris and Liz , the cottage and gardens make for a great and memorable holiday
Roger, it was a pleasure to meet you both again and we are pleased you managed to have some fine sunny days despite a thunderstorm and heavy rain on the Sunday evening! The gardens are constantly changing and evolving and mid May is a time when all the rhododendrons and roses are beginning to look their best. We hope you are able to return. Our best wishes. "Wonderful cottage in a lovely area."
Everything we forgot was provided as standard! Warm and cosy, breathtaking garden.
Thank you Jill for your positive feedback. We try to provide the "little extras" to ensure our visitors have all they need to make their stay enjoyable. The weather was not "spring like" but at least the cottage was warm and cosy and the garden was beginning to look particularly pretty.Diolch yn fawr. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"We have just returned from a wonderful week at Haulfryn."
The cottage is full of character and has the most spectacular gardens, the rear garden is raised and has the most breathtaking views from the top. The door ways are low due to the age of the property but luckily myself and my husband are short! The log burner in the front room was used every night as we had a cold week (even though it was the end of March) Chris the owner kindly left us extra logs and was very easy to communicate with. We covered a vast area whilst staying at Haulfryn and still have so much more to see and do so will return. As stated this cottage is on a B road and the only thing that spoils the tranquility is the sound of cars, but I will take that for all the other benefits to staying here.
Thank you Donna for your feedback and positive comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your week at Haulfryn and found pleasure in the extensive terraced gardens. Winter still had "a sting in its tail! at the end of March but despite the cold and rain I hope you enjoyed the cosy warmth of the cottage. There is so much to discover in the area and I hope you are able to return to find many more interesting places. The cottage is set well back from a B road, and although fairly quite most days does tend to become busier over holiday periods and summer weekends, but I do hope any noise did cause too much disturbance. "Loved our stay at Haulfryn."
We couldn't think of a better place to spend our 2 week Christmas holiday. The views from the cottage are out of this world, the cottage is cosy and comfortable and we loved the log fires. Comfortable beds and excellent WiFi. Chris went out his way to help us throughout our stay and providing us with plenty of local knowledge and also plenty of Logs!!!!! We had some fantastic walks straight from the cottage door. We had some huge storms during our stay, bit this just added to the enjoyment! We will 100% return to Haulfryn. Thank you for everything.
Kevin and family, thank you for all your positive feedback while staying at Haulfryn over the Christmas period. You experienced some of the worst stormy weather that Wales could throw at you! The cottage is a safe, warm haven to return to and we are pleased you enjoyed the cosy warmth and comfort of the woodburner after braving the weather on your walks in the area. If you decide to return in the future, you are very welcome, and perhaps the sun might show itself? Diolch yn Fawr. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage."
Lovely location. Some low doors so watch your heads!
Thank you John for your feedback. Despite the very wet Autumn weather we are pleased you enjoyed your stay in Haulfryn and made the most of the cosy woodburner. I am all too aware of some of the low doorways! I am over six feet tall and have learnt to take an appropriate "duck" where needed. However, there are clear "low door" signs where necessary. The cottage was built around eighteen hundred with a Welsh mining family residing then. It is probable that Welsh miners were quite short in stature? with apologies to anyone less than five foot eight!! The cottage retains authentic features typical of its period. Diolch yn Fawr. "Wonderful cottage and location enjoyed celebrating my 60th birthday could not ..."
Wonderful cottage and location enjoyed celebrating my 60th birthday could not ask for more beyond expectations Thankyou x
Denise. Thank you for your feedback following your week at Haulfryn. Despite the onset of Autumnal weather we are pleased you enjoyed the cottage and wonderful surroundings to make the most of your birthday. Our best wishes,Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"The cottage and gardens are beautifully kept."
The cottage is extremely well equipped too.
Thank you Naomi for your feedback. I think you experienced some decent weather during your stay and managed to enjoy the garden and the many walks in the area in a summer that has not been the the best ! Diolch yn Fawr. Chris. Property Owner

"A lovely cottage in a great setting."
We felt very much at home there. Well equipped, comfortable furnishings and very nicely decorated. Lovely garden, views and wild birds. Just beware the low doorways!
Hello Susan. Thank you for your positive feedback and we are pleased you enjoyed your week at Haulfryn. The extensive terraced garden is a particular feature of the cottage and from the seats at the top terrace the views are spectacular. I fully understand your point regarding the low doorways! Having met you briefly during your stay I am acutely aware of the need to "duck" in some of the doorways. I am over six feet tall, as I think were of a similar height ? So apologies for any "bumps on your head". It is probable that the hardworking Welsh miner was probably not very tall? So not a problem for him or his family. However there are notices on every low door as a reminder, and I think taller people soon learn to take more care! Diolch yn fawr. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Good host ."
Comfortable cottage. Beautiful views from front and back of cottage, hard to beat. Situation perfect for walking and visiting areas of interest. This is somewhere to come back to time and time again.
Sandra. We are very pleased you enjoyed your week at Haulfryn. I think the Berwyn mountain area is probably something of a "well kept secret" as so many of the visitors coming into North Wales head for the increasingly crowded areas in the Snowdon areas. As you have discovered after your second visit to Haulfryn there so many wonderful places to explore without having to travel long journeys and deal with the crowds! The area holds special appeal to walkers and should you rather stay at the cottage I hope you enjoy the gardens- which we continue to expand and develop. Our thanks. Chris and Liz. Property Owner
-
"Beautiful cottage, very well equipped and very comfortable."
Fabulous garden very well maintained. All set in a beautiful peaceful valley. Very helpful owner. Can’t wait to come back again.
Keith. Thank you for your comments. As you have discovered the Berwyn mountains have so much to offer. The area is as dramatic and scenic as any other parts of Wales and is less crowded than the more popular parts of Snowdonia! You do not have to travel far to enjoy some wonderful places and a paradise for walkers. Liz and I are pleased you like the gardens. Thank you Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Haulfryn is a beautiful cottage in a stunning area ."
The cottage is cozy but well thought out ,it has everything you need . The garden is very pretty and well kept ,I really enjoyed sitting at the top for golden hour soaking in the incredible views . The hosts made us feel very welcomed .
Bridget. Thank you for your lovely feedback following your week at Haulfryn. You were fortunate to experience wonderful weather. In fact Wales has not received any rain for over five weeks and it it is a constant battle to keep up with sufficient watering to keep the extensive gardens looking at their best. I thank you for watering all the plant pots around the cottage. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Our second visit , we’ve now booked for a third year."
Says it all
It was a real pleasure to meet you again and that you enjoyed your week at Haulfryn. Thank you very much for watering the many plant pots in a particularly dry and sunny week. The garden is now looking very beautiful as the season unfolds. I hope you experience similar weather on your return next year. Best wishes Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"A nice stay in a lovely cottage which had everything we needed."
The owner was very helpful and provided clear instructions to everything. The surroundings were beautiful and the gardens were amazing. We would recommend this cottage and area to anyone
Thank you Alan for your comments. We are pleased you enjoyed the cottage and the spectacular surroundings. The extensive gardens at the cottage are now,as spring unfolds, looking increasingly beautiful and will change as the season develops. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Everything thete that we needed, 2nd time we had stayed there and just as good as the first."
Hopefully we will go back again next year. We used all the birdseed up, or the great variety of birds in the garden did including the pheasant and squirrel
Thank you Robert for your feedback and thank you also for feeding the wild birds at Haulfryn including the regular pheasant and a a greedy squirrel. They are very hungry birds at the cottage!! so I must improve the stock of bird food to ensure they never are without. We hope to see you again. Best wishes. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"This is a lovely, well-equipped cottage in a simply stunning area."
Everything you need is provided by Chris and Liz. Their communication before our stay was excellent. The cottage is really comfortable. I saw a review saying that the sitting room was too small for four people. No idea what they are used to, but there is plenty of room for four people. The log burner makes it really cosy on a chilly evening too. We found the separate utility room so useful for drying wet walking clothes and boots. As two couples is was great to have two bathrooms as well plus an extra loo/sink ensuite. We ate 3 times in the New Inn during our stay. Perfectly good pub food and very friendly locals. A good walk back up the hill to the cottage afterwards was great. I took a high-vis and head torch as it’s dark and some of the walk was on the road. Loads of places to visit in the area and tonnes of walks. We had a fabulous week. Thanks so much.
Pam and friends. Thank you very much for your positive feedback to Sykes Cottages. You had a rather wet week during your stay at Haullfryn which concluded a very wet March everywhere. However despite the weather we are so pleased you made the most of the cottage facilities and managed to explore this wonderful area. I hope you were able to enjoy the extensive gardens and watched the many birds visiting the bird feeders. Diolch yn Fawr. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Enjoyed the holiday ."
Lounge was a little small however, everything else was fine other than one of the toilets was a little difficult to flush . The views were spectacular and the area had plenty of things to see and do. Would definitely recommended it to others .
-
"Lovely cottage, small living room but perfectly ok for 2, road although the main one into the village is quiet."
Steep walk back from village and the pavement only covers 80% then its a grass verge. Would Always go back great host and great views.
Mike and Karen. Thank you for your feedback and comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at Haulfryn and although a cold week it was a dry week and an opportunity to get out and about to explore this wonderful area of Wales. You are right regarding the fact that the living room is on the small size but the cottage is two hundred years old and typical of how cottages were built for miners at that time. However, in the colder months it is very cosy with the woodburner so very comfortable. Thank you and hope you are able to come again. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Haulfryn Cottage was a fabulous choice."
We booked so we could go to zip World at Penrhyn Quarry which was just over an hour away. The communication with Chris and Liz was perfect. Directions were spot on- we even found it on a dark, rainy night. The cottage was cosy, wood burner was all laid up ready for us. Some welcome goods of wine, milk and farm eggs was lovely! No phone signal in the whole area but the wifi was great. Bedrooms were lovely too, we all slept well- there are toilets en-suite in both (one with a shower) An other shower and toilet downstairs. Great views from the front of the cottage with well cared for gardens and watching the birds. A well needed weekend break for 4 friends- would return for further exploring!
Tina and party, We are so pleased you enjoyed your visit to Haulfryn and thank you for your kind comments. The weather forecast before your arrival looked awful! but you found some Autumn sunshine over the weekend to experience the "adrenaline thrill of the Zip Wire!! And enjoy all that the cottage, the garden and locality have to offer. Diolch yn fawr. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Well equipped, well appointed cottage."
Great views of the Tanat Valley. Great dark skies for those with a telescope. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas. Aladdin's Cave of a General Store in nearby Pen-y-Bont-Fawr. Quality Artisan Food in Oswestry on the market.

"One of the best properties we have ever stayed in."
I would say it actually exceeded our expectations due to all the extras provided by the very pleasant and helpful owners. The cottage has lovely gardens surrounding it and views to the fells. If we were to be critical about anything it would be busy road but the cottage does sit back from it and in no way did it spoil our holiday. We would never hesitate to book this cottage again.
Thank you Lesley for your wonderful feedback following your week at Haulfry.n. The autumnal weather proved to be an added bonus as Wales in October can be somewhat "unpredictable". I am sure the woodburner provided some cosy warmth in the cooler evenings. We acknowledge that some road noise can,at times, be a nuisance. The cottage is set back from a B road and although very quite during week days, does carry more traffic over weekends mainly tourists on the journey to Bala and Snowdonia. We hope the cottage, the gardens and the spectacular location compensate for any disturbance you have felt. We hope you are able to visit Haulfryn in the future .Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"Very comfortable cottage with a beautiful garden in a good location."
Well equipped with a generous welcome package, lots of maps and local information. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it was a pleasure to meet Chris who, with his wife Liz have created a real home from home. Would highly recommend.
-
"Perfect holiday destination, wonderful views from the property Haulfryn was very comfortable well equipped so much so that we have booked for next year."
Thank you Sandra for your feedback following your week at Haulfryn. We endeavour to equip the cottage with items and extras that make your stay comfortable and enjoyable particularly in an area that is quite isolated without easy proximity to shops of any size. However the location of the cottage is unique and very beautiful. Thank for watering the plants and feeding the wild birds. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"The most well equipped cottage we've stayed in."
Plenty of crockery, cleaning supplies, condiments, toilet rolls, soap, towels and flannels etc. Just the everyday things that you don't want to be wasting time driving to the supermarket for, as it is a good 40 mins away. Also a fab welcome hamper from the owners, who are lovely. TV and wifi no problems. The gardens are wonderful, we were very lucky with the weather so made the most of them and spotted some amazing wildlife. The biggest hedgehog I've ever seen came to visit. The views are stunning, the prettiest place we've been. The local pub was very welcoming, dog friendly and food was good, huge portions and reasonably priced. The church of st. Melangell is just a short scenic drive off the village. A must see. A thoroughly relaxing break. Thanks Chris and Liz, we hope to return.
Thank you Claudine for your wonderful comments. We are so pleased you enjoyed your week at Haulfryn. As you discovered one does not have to venture far to find places of remarkable beauty and interest. We allways attempt to make the cottage as comfortable as possible with items and "extras" to make it special. In the dry weather thank you also for topping up the bird feeders and watering the plant containers. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"A clean tidy well kept cottage with everything you needed for a relaxing stay With lovely views across the valley and well kept beautiful gardens with an abundance of birds and wildlife in the garden."
We spent a lot of time just relaxing in the gardens as it was so peaceful A lovely welcome gift of wine chocolates flowers milk and eggs from the owners was a nice touch as well We will definately be back at some point in the future.
Thank you for your comments regarding your week at Haulfryn, Despite the problems in maintaining the garden in such dry and difficult conditions we have done all we could to keep it looking as beautiful as possible. It is not often we need rain in this part of Wales! Thank you also for topping up the bird feeders. Chris and Liz. Property Owner

"What a beautiful cottage this is, we had a wonderful week , and were blessed with the weather, so could spend time in the amazing gardens."
Very clean, well equipped cottage, with everything you need , lovely area with lots of places of interest to visit
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed your week at Haulfryn and found pleasure in the cottage, gardens and the locality. As you discovered we are passionate gardeners and endeavour to create a beautiful garden in an elevated situation up in the Berwyn mountains. "Thank you for the hospitality."
This is a beautiful place and appears to be much loved and looked after. We had a great time! Would highly recommend.
-
"Had a lovely stay, but the owners need to sort the TV out as it was a real pain every night trying to get the TV to switch on, even following the guide in the information pack."
-
"This has to be one of the best cottages we have stayed in."
Haulfryn is a beautiful cottage and the gardens are amazing. If you want a relaxing, peaceful holiday amid fantastic scenery then this is the place to chose. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable and very tastefully decorated and cared for by the owners. Lots of fabulous walks in the area and we often finished the walk in the nice little welcoming pub in the village. We loved it here so much that we have already booked again for next year.
-
"My wife and I and the mother-in-law spent a week here in the beginning of May, excellent cottage"
-
"What a beautiful place to lose yourself and forget all about the outside world!"
We couldn’t be contacted unless we we out and about which suited us as we just needed a break from the hustle and bustle! The cottage was stunning the pictures really don’t do it justice, it was spotless and welcoming! The owners had left us a thoughtful welcome package which really was lovely along with detailed instructions on the use of anything we may not have been sure of. Also a pretty vase of flowers to cheer our arrival! The bedrooms were so pretty and also lots of light flooding in because of the sunshine we had all week! There were great walks to be had locally as well as visiting other places, not one person wanted to leave as we had all relaxed so much. We really can recommend this gorgeous cottage to anyone who wants a little magic in their lives as it felt like we had been away for 2 weeks, that’s how rested we became! Marvellous, thank you!
Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback following your week at Haulfryn. Elizabeth and I do our best to make the cottage as welcoming as possible and to provide "little extras" to make our visitors feel at home in the cottage and pretty gardens. We try to offer good advice as to the local visitor attractions with plenty of maps, guide leaflets to enable our visitors to make the most of their visit. Diolch yn Fawr. Chris. Property Owner
-
"The cottage is very clean comfortable and the fire was prepared for our arrival with a nice bottle of red wine and few other goodies as a welcome gift."
You don't have to travel to far to find good walks and the garden is stunning in the evening sunshine. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
-
"I didn't meet Chris but he was very kind & obliging on the telephone."
Sometimes North wales cottages can be a bit forbidding but Haulfryn was a lovely comfortable, warm little cottage. It's clearly been converted and restored with a lot of sensitivity and taste. We were lucky with the weather and the view from the seat at the top of the garden was quite breathtaking. I was half afraid in case I might wake up and find it was just in my dreams! The Railway Inn in Penybont Fawr became our local. Basic in some ways but that's fine with me and everyone made us welcome. I miss it and the house!
-
"Very comfortable place to stay and chill out."
Everything you would need to do that was there. Plenty of information and maps available.
-
"My husband and I stayed at Haulfryn with our dog in early February 2022 and we had the loveliest time."
The cottage is absolutely beautiful and is immaculately clean. Chris and Liz are the most wonderful hosts - They prepared a list of local activities we may be interested in, as well as preparing the wood burner so it was ready to go (which made the living room the best place to cosy-up in during stormy weather). They also left us fresh eggs, milk, wine and chocolate which was a lovely touch. We’ve only just got home and are already planning a return trip. I would unreservedly recommend Haulfryn to anybody looking for a peaceful, picturesque escape in North Wales.
-
"We had the most fantastic stay in this beautiful cottage,This is one of the best we have ever stayed in."
Warm, cosy, everything that we needed was there. Beautiful garden, fantastic location, stunning views. Great communication with owner,Can’t wait to visit again.
-
"As expected on all fronts - thank you."
-
"A wonderful two weeks in this warm, cosy and well equipped cottage."
It felt like staying at a friend's house rather than a holiday cottage. Lovely location with beautiful views from the terraced rear garden and so many birds coming to the feeders in the front garden. The kitchen and utility room were equipped with everything you could need and more. Comfortable bedrooms with plenty of clothes storage and two lovely bathrooms. We could have moved in!
-
"The cottage, as before exceeded our expectations as it is one of the best we have stayed at."
The whole setting and location where the cottage is makes access to the Snowdonia area easy, but also access to towns & village shops are also within easy reach. One of our best ever holidays again.!! Which we will repeating again in the near future.
-
"Lovely cottage with everything you could need."
Owners really helpful. Would love to stay again
-
"The cottage is lovely with comfortable beds and good showers."
The hosts provided a welcome package of food/wine which was very thoughtful. The views over the hills are stunning. The garden is beautiful and we enjoyed watching the garden birds. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you need to cook, clean and wash clothes. It is quite remote (part of its charm) and Morrisons’ deliveries helped. There is no mobile signal and the wi-fi is slow. We are a family of four, with children aged 8 and 12. We spent a lot of time paddle boarding at Lake Vyrmwy, doing activities in Llangollen and horse-riding at Springhill Farm, as well as walking locally. We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks at Haulfryn and would definitely stay again if returning to Wales.
-
"The cottage is very comfortable, well appointed and in a beautiful location."
The owner Chris is a lovely person who we met on the Sunday whilst he was gardening. On that note the gardens front and back are well kept and thriving. One thing to be aware of is the lack of any service to your mobiles as you are in a mountainous area. Opposite the front of the cottage were lots of wildlife, we were fascinated by the buzzards flying across the ridges, stunning to see. On the Thursday the water pressure had dropped due to works further up the road, and Chris came with a supply of water, most helpful.
-
"Absolutely lovely quaint cottage, located in a beautiful area."
Well equipped, great communication for the owners and Sykes. Would we go back ABSOLUTELY we will.
-
"The cottage was very comfortable, and clean, had a lovely week there."
the owners left a bottle of wine, milk and eggs which was very much appreciated. We loved sitting out on the back garden. We will be coming back next year.
-
"We had a great week in this Cottage, the weather wasn't very good to us but we still enjoyed our stay."
The Cottage is well located and a real sun trap, the view across the valley is lovely and although next to a road we didn't really notice the traffic noise. A very comfortable and clean Cottage making for a quiet relaxing stay.
-
"Fantastic holiday cottage."
Had everything we could need for a relaxing break. Really good location for exploring. It was lovely to come home at the end of the day to this peaceful spot. Cottage was clean, comfortable and had a lovely garden. We spent warm afternoons sat out in the sun watching the birds and came home feeling very relaxed.
-
"This cottage was lovely, the setting and views from the cottage are beautiful, there is some road noise but this didn’t deter from us having a good relaxing holiday and didn’t interrupt a good nights sleep."
Both bathrooms well equipped and the extra toilet and sink in the second bedroom was great. Bedrooms themselves quite spacious with plenty wardrobe space, the bed mattresses were a little springy and would have preferred a firmer one but this is a personal requirement. The lounge all be it small was cosy and comfortable and a nice room to relax in the evening. Kitchen very spacious with everything you could need to make a full on family roast dinner (should you wish) table big enough to seat whole the family. The walk to the village included a section with no path so beware of the traffic, the village pub was disappointing, we felt little effort had been made to make it welcoming and needed some TLC this being the case we opted for a drink only so can’t comment on the food. Overall the cottage was clean and tidy in a beautiful setting, gardens were lovely with plenty of garden furniture (could have done with a garden parasol) great communication with the owner Chris, would recommend and would definitely return.
-
"It is a lovely cottage ."
Covered all of our requirements and more .
-
"We had a lovely relaxing week in this gorgeous Welsh Cottage and would definitely recommend it and book it again for future holidays."
The cottage and gardens are great. Our dog loved being in the gardens and we all enjoyed watching the birds there. The front room is small but cosy, especially with the log burner in the evening, and the beds were comfortable. Hubby struggled with the low ceilings, but otherwise it was a perfect little getaway. Lovely welcome pack and useful information on arrival was much appreciated. The owners are lovely and were very helpful when we had problems with the WiFi. Our week away in Haulfryn was just the tonic we needed after shielding for months due to COVID-19. Thank you!

"Beautiful cottage with amazing views and very comfy beds"
-
"We've stayed at Haulfryn twice now and loved it both times."
The cottage and gardens are beautiful and we felt at home straight away. We had everything we needed, including milk for a cup of tea on arrival. We had lovely days out at Bala, Barmouth, Lake Vyrnwy and Rhaeadr Waterfall and also walks around the village. In the evenings we had delicious meals at the New Inn or sat in the garden with the fantastic views listening to the sheep and birds - bliss!
-
"Just back from a weeks holiday in this beautiful cottage and what a fabulous week we had."
It’s very well equipped, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The log burner is lovely on a chilly evening and very cosy. We were lucky enough to have some sunshine so could spent time in the immaculate gardens, which are bursting with flowers, perfect to watch the sun go down and full of birds and wildlife. The views surrounding this beautiful cottage are stunning! The local pub is in walking distance and very friendly, the food was great too, they even served a vegan curry that was delicious. Thank you for an awesome holiday, we’d definitely recommend it!
-
"Beautiful location & views from the cottage made our stay a relaxing week."
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side but we were very cosy sat in front of the log burner playing board games. Phone signal was non existent but isn’t that the reason to go away to somewhere like this? The WiFi was brilliant anyway so you aren’t completely cut off. The beds were very comfy and everywhere was clean & tidy. Plenty of books on offer to read as well as watching the wildlife from the windows. On the two days we managed to get out we visited the waterfall & Betws-y-Coed which were both within an hours drive. We also visited the inn down the road one night for a meal which was lovely & dog friendly. We will definitely be back, thank you!
-
"We had a great time there, hoping to book again this year"
-
"Excellent cottage with all equipment and facilities we needed and more."
Loved relaxing in front of the fire in the evening after spending the day exploring and walking the beautiful countryside.
-
"A delightful, comfortable and extremely well-equipped cottage."
As it rained on most days we particularly appreciated the central heating. The garden is delightful and the birdlife was amazing. Altogether a really pleasant holiday cottage.

"When booking and again just prior to departure I made a particular point as to the location of the local pub as we planned to take our evening meals there and it was a key element in our choice."
I was assured it was within easy walking distance. This is not the case, it is in fact 3/4 mile away down a road that for much of its length has no pavement and of course no street lighting. This spoilt our stay and is particularly annoying to be mislead by your staff. The cottage is excellent, well equipped, comfortable and with wonderful views. For your information the lack of a phone signal and internet would stop us from staying there again. This was clearly stated in the details but when issues such as the above crop up one realises how useful communications are.

"Firstly we had a good holiday despite the inaccuracy of the listing."
However- 1. The cottage living space was much smaller than it looks on the photos , lounge very small for 4adults. 2. The bathrooms were all quite grubby, we had to clean them all before using ( beard trimmings in sink in en suite, dirty shower etc) we left them much cleaner than when we arrived! 3. The mobile signal is absolutely nil anywhere for miles 4. The pub in the village is 3/4 mile, between 10/15 mins walk along the road which has no footpath for the first half, wouldn’t like to walk it in the dark. Only 1 pub was open all the time we were there. 4. Shop is 3 miles away & small - bring supplies with you. 5. There are some beautiful walks here but many footpaths are poorly sign posted & maintained, be particularly careful up the mountain behind the house. On the plus side - The garden is lovely, beautifully designed & maintained.

"The Accuracy of the listing was pretty much spot on, like saying some vehicle ..."
The Accuracy of the listing was pretty much spot on, like saying some vehicle noise may be heard due to the Road and the poor mobile phone reception in the cottage and general area, the lack of phone reception was one of the reasons we choose the property, to have a break away from phones, the cottage had everything you may need and then some, excellent cottage for walkers and dog friendly

"Beautiful house and stunning surroundings everything you need is in the house ..."
Beautiful house and stunning surroundings everything you need is in the house even had wine milk and water eggs left which was lovely
-
"This was a very well equipped cottage in every respect."
However the fact that we were unable to use our mobile ‘phones did cause a problem when we needed to make an urgent call. The public telephone in the village was not working, and we had to go to the public house to use their landline which in turn kept dropping out. We feel this should be made known in the general information about the cottage. We will. certainly book another holiday with Sykes.

"The location was lovely and remote."
The lack of signal was what we wanted. The privacy was lovely. The cottage and gardens were well maintained and the decore and facilities were excellent. The only faults were that the beds weren’t very comfortable, the local walks weren’t accessible and the door frames were very low. Despite the latter being labelled we still managed to bang our heads quite a bit. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and so did our furry friend.

"This cottage looks lovely from the outside but very disappointing on the inside extremely dirty, used soap and dirty nail rush left in the bathrooms."
Mouldy shower . Mould in the bedrooms not to mention the thick dust behind the beds and on the bedside tables , cobwebs everywhere. My family had to leave this cottage early .

"A wonderful cottage in an idyllic location with well kept gardens and a well equipped cottage."
Well located for visits `to Bala, Barmouth, Oswestry and Llanglollen. Owners`left milk and eggs as well as a bottle of wine that was really appreciated. Weather great all week and some good walks in the local area that are not too strenuous, although it is a climb back to the cottage from the village.Would use this cottage again.

"The central heating didn't fully warm the house you needed to use the wood burner but unfortunately the kitchen wood burner was out of use which was advertised as two wood burners."
we needed to use the kitchen wood burner as it came very cold. the price of the logs seemed quite high for the amount in each bag.

"Our fourth time at Haulfryn and we still love the cottage, the gardens and the village."
There are wonderful walks right from the front door and also a little further afield. With everything we could want for us right within the cottage, we'll definitely be back for another visit!
-
"The cottage itself was amazingly well equipped."
We found everything we needed. Around the cottage were lovely objects d'art....far more than I have ever seen in other holiday homes. I am hoping to return!
-
"It was just wonderful, peaceful and amazing location and breath taking scenery all around, great walks and so relaxing and a big thanks to Chris and Liz for their offers of help and kindness, look forward to the next visit."
-
"A simply wonderful cottage."
Anyone visiting Wales in November should pack for every weather (which we did) and yet coming back to the cosy Haulfryn after a long, wet walk is everything we could have hoped for. Very well furnished and equipped so it feels much more homely than many a holiday home. We'll definitely be back again!
-
"No telephone in case of emergencies, which was rather worrying as we are both over 75 yrs and unable to walk far."
-
"The cottage was absolutely wonderful and the only reason I would not return was that it was very difficult to find somewhere to walk my dog in the locality off the lead."
-
"It was a lovely break in a very comfortable cottage with everything we needed."

The property
This attractive, stone-built, detached cottage is conveniently situated in a rural setting, on the outskirts of Llangynog village.
The village rests at the foot of the Milltir Cerrig mountain pass, in the heart of the Berwyn Mountains in Powys.
Charming and full of character, this cosy cottage welcomes you in through an open porch, which leads into the well-styled sitting room with comfy sofas and a woodburning stove set in a red brick inglenook hearth.
The kitchen is modern and well equipped, with a social dining area, and it also retains the original range with a feature oven and a further woodburning stove to provide character and warmth.
Upstairs are two lovely double bedrooms with superb views across the valley, both offering some en-suite facilities in addition to the family bathroom, which has a bath and shower over.
There is also door access off the landing into the rear garden.
The property, a former lead minerÂ’s cottage thought to date back to the 1820s, has been carefully modernised to retain original features where possible, whilst providing a modern country cottage feel throughout.
A particular feature of the cottage are the extensive terraced gardens with many interesting plants and shrubs.
Outside, the well-kept gardens to front and rear offer superb views down the Tanat Valley, and sunny seating areas to sit and relax, planning the activities for the coming days.
The cottage is in a fantastic location for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and climbers, and a walk to Rhaeadr Waterfall should not be shirked, as it is the highest single drop waterfall in the UK.
For a calmer walk, but equally as stunning, a trail leads from the cottage in the other direction to St MelangellÂ’s Church, one of the remotest churches in Britain.
Haulfryn is a superb cottage in a fantastic location for a relaxing break at any time of the year!
