  • "The location of the cottage is great, as many of the places we visited were either a short drive away like Elan Valley, or just over an hour away like Aberdovey."

Also, a short drive away, we enjoyed a lovely meal at The Lamb & Flag pub. The cottage itself was disappointing and mainly due to the noise of the family using the property next door. It doesn't work as two rentals as essentially it's one property split into two rentals meaning it sounds like the other people are in your side of the property with only an internal door upstairs and downstairs, separating the property area. The main bedroom and landing were the worst, scaring my daughter, waking us up late at night or early in the morning, not helped by the fact the family next door were running up & down the stairs, jumping off the landing and shouting. In addition, Riverside Cottage has the back garden and the next property has the front garden. Riverside Cottage has a lovely garden, but the next door rentals kitchen looks out onto, so no privacy! Upon arriving, we were told to park our car in the small car park area, however the family staying next door, who arrived after us, parked both of their cars outside the two properties, blocking our exit & entrance to the property. So if you're looking for a relaxing week, I would only recommend Riverside Cottage if there is nobody using next door. The kitchen is on the small side but managable, but all of the cupboards are already used up with kitchenware, so for the week, we had to leave our food items in the bags we'd brought them in as there was nowhere to store them. It's also a shame that there is no washing machine. For a weeks stay as a family of 4, visiting places getting wet/muddy/sandy etc, clothes needed washing. I think this property is more a long weekend property and not meant for a weeks stay, especially for families.

  • "This is our 2nd stay in riverside and we weren't disappointed."

My dog loves the open access to her private garden, running around, listening to the many birds and watching the rive, then taking a walk on the private river walk. A cosy cottage with a huge bathroom and spacious bedrooms, spotless grounds and beautiful surroundings. Safe, cosy and home from home atmosphere.

The owners are on site and go out of their way to make you welcome. The safe fenced private garden is a welcome extra. 5 minutes to the local village which has everything you need. Quirky and quaint

  • "The cottage is cozy and comfortable but the real selling point at Riverside cottage is the fantastic outdoor space, wildlife, and scenery."

It’s a little slice of heaven- stunning. We took our 2 dogs, both high energy dogs who love to be outdoors. One has no recall and can usually only be walked on a lead. The cottage has a really big, beautifully maintained, enclosed garden which isn’t shared with any of the other cottages. But more importantly, it has a lovely big field/meadow area adjoining it with safe banks down to the river. The field is part of the estate and fully enclosed, other than a gate at the far end (you just need to check it’s been closed before letting your dogs off as there are sheep further down the track). All 4 cottages have access to the field/river but we didn’t see a single other person using it all week. Was such a luxury to have it to ourselves. Our dogs (and myself and my husband) had a fantastic time in the water in the sunshine. Absolutely made our holiday being to be able to let the dogs have the run of the field for hours. They’ve never slept so well. A personal highlight for me was seeing the kingfisher on the river. We saw them every day while sat, enjoying breakfast on the table in the garden. Every direction you look from the cottage garden is beautiful scenery. Mountains with red kite gliding above them , the river and woodland with birds galore, fish jumping out of the water, ornate chimney tops, and the colourful boarders in the garden. Owners were very friendly and welcoming. Not intrusive in the slightest. The kitchen is very compact but perfectly big enough for me and my husband. You might struggle with 5 guests though. I couldn’t help but think the large shower room would be better utilised as a kitchen and the kitchen as a compact bathroom. My only very slight gripes were that the windows could have done with a more recent clean (spiderwebs in abundance) and the little yard area off the kitchen could have been spruced up a bit. Also, had the adjoining cottage (Gardener’s Cottage)been occupied, I would have been concerned about privacy as there is only a locked internal door separating the two cottages and I think sounds may travel. We were, however, lucky enough to have the other cottage vacant during our stay. I really wouldn’t let this put you off though. With the outdoor space and surrounding scenery, you’ll spend most of your time enjoying outdoors. On the whole, the place was spotlessly clean, no trace of dogs. Shower was great. We had a fantastic time and we would absolutely love to come back.

  • "The location is beautiful and the owners Jonathon and Chee could not have been more friendlier or welcoming."

Nothing was too much trouble for Chee who always had a smile on his face and forthcoming with advice re fly fishing Which was the reason we chose to stay at this property. We picked Riverside Cottage over Gardeners Cottage due to the large rear garden access but with hindsight would stay at Gardeners on our next visit as Riverside had a very small kitchen especially the fridge which was tiny. We love to shop once a week and spend the rest of the time relaxing on site but there was very limited storage space for food and cooking pots and pans were very limited, hence we had to go out every day for supplies. Apart from this the holiday was wonderful and relaxing and I would recommend this location. With very little effort this holiday cottage could easily be upgraded to 4*.

  • "We had a wonderful holiday."

The accommodation was clean, inviting & exactly as described. My bed was really comfortable & had some of the best nights sleep I'd had for a long time. The owners couldn't have been more helpful. If there was anything we needed they were there, but were not intrusive in anyway. The cottage itself was in the most beautiful surroundings & I spent many a morning waking up with coffee in hand next to the river. There is a lovely short walk down an old railway track on site, longer enough for a quick dog walk in morning before a day in the mountains. This was everything I hoped it would be and more and we can't wait to go back again in the future. Thanks for a great holiday.

  • "We booked a weekend stay and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Riverside."

Our dog enjoyed the use of the large garden that is shared by both cottages and we also had a small, private area for ourselves out the front. Elan Valley is a must see, whether you walk the trails or drive to see all the dams. We had a mixed weekend for weather with blazing sun, hail, rain and fog, but it only added to the atmosphere. Stunning grounds to walk on along the river and a lovely, peaceful retreat. The only downside was the glass bathroom door that leads our into joint garden. Despite being frosted, I feel it could still use some sort of privacy blind for when the light is on as I didn't want to scare the neighbours whilst in the lovely, big shower

The Riverside cottage garden exclusively for our use for beautiful and what a treat having the river wye running alongside with private river walk you can explore. The owners also were very friendly and giving us a nice bottle of wine as a welcome was just perfect. Our dog Monty loved the place too.

  • "Firstly, what a fabulous place to get away and spend some time!"

The house was spotlessly clean including utensils, towels and bedding. For a dog friendly place, there was no smell of dog or dog hairs. The views and surrounding land is stunning. The owners were incredibly helpful and friendly. The bed could have been more comfortable for us, but everyone has a different preference. My only comment would be we could hear some noise from the people next door but this is unavoidable and wasn't a big issue as we were out a lot. There are pubs in the local area but you do have to drive to them. Big shops are 10 mins away but there are closer smaller shops. Overall, we were really happy and will definitely be booking again!

Lovely and quiet. Just a few things that I felt were needed a mop to wipe the floor in the shower room, it's directly off the garden and got very wet and muddy... had a bucket but no mop ! Also an iron would have been great and just maybe an air freshener in the hoover or clean the hoover. Had a hoover round a few times and the smell was horrid so only did it twice( strong dog smell).. But would return as lovely, peaceful and ideal for the dogs great that you have space to leave them to dry after the walks. All in all a lovely break..

  • "Hosts were lovely and very welcoming, and the cottage was situated in a beautiful spot next to the river."

Although we knew this cottage would be basic we did not expect items to be dirty and so old. The sofa had worn so much it was threadbare with one cushion torn open, it wasn't even clean, it had a layer of dog hairs down the back where dogs had been rubbing. (We have non moulting breed so knew it wasn't them). This is also the first time we have had to buy air fresheners when in a cottage. We had to clean all the kitchen cupboard doors where you touch as you could see the layer of grime and place chopping boards outside as they smelt so bad. The layout was very strange and not as expected - the only access to what is a wonderful garden was through the toilet/shower room!! Unfortunately you couldn't see the garden from inside the house as all the onlooking windows were from the adjoining cottage. We thought having an en-suite to the master room would be ideal but it was only a toilet, there was nowhere to wash your hands so had to go downstairs anyway. We still had a great time in the local countryside but this cottage needs improvements.

Bathroom and bedrooms very good. Lounge comfortable. Garden very good and overlooks the river Wye. Unfortunately the kitchen is very poor. Very outdated units and appliances. The whole thing needs stripping out and starting afresh. It is also extremely small but could easily be extended to make a much better facility. Everything about the kitchen is annoying when you work in it. Having said all that we did enjoy our 4 nights very much. The owners were very friendly. We don't usually but will consider booking this cottage again. That's if I don't offend the owners too much with my comments.
