Extremely quiet dwelling. Everything needed was provided and more. Ideal for dog owners. Didn’t use the games room area. As was there just for a peaceful time with mother and my brother and our dog to escape fireworks. Loved it and will definitely return.

Everything was spotlessly clean and very practical. Set in beautiful surrounding, very rural yet only about 10 mins to shops, supermarkets etc. The games room is fantastic and your never short of something to do. • "This is a wonderful property set in a peaceful location full of wildlife."

We had the pleasure of seeing hundreds of red kites, as well as geese, foxes, horses, rabbits, and other birds. The property and its surrounding area are huge. We had our dog with us, and he enjoyed the fields around the back and sides of the cottage, along with the large, enclosed garden. Inside the property, there is lots of space, and the sofas and lounge are very comfortable with a huge TV. The bedrooms and beds are also really cosy. The kitchen is well-equipped and modern, and there are two fridges and a large freezer. We also loved using the games room in the separate building. We were able to order a Tesco delivery (we met the driver at the end of the drive way) with no issues. Julia is a lovely host who popped up to say hello. We’re likely to return to this property - it’s one of the best we’ve been to.

Very nicely maintained and clean. The views are wonderful and the we saw so many different birds from red kites to a bull finch landing in the garden. The younger members loved the games room which is warm and comfortable. The owners responded very quickly when the strong winds bought down a small tree in the lane to the house. I got the impression any issues would be dealt with that quickly and efficiently. This is a quiet and remote location with lots of walks for the dog. Recommend a visit, the homemade cake was a yummy cherry on the top.

The cottage was homely, super comfy and clean. We spent a lot of time there just quality family time away from busy life! Parking was perfect, 3 cars parked without issue and space for more. Garage and all the shops you could need only short drive, with the illusion that you are miles away from anything. It was our first visit to a Elan valley and it is spectacular so much to explore! We can’t wait to come back again, we are already looking to book our next trip

Very peaceful with a lovely atmosphere. The kitchen is well stocked with herbs and condiments plus a very nice welcome pack. There was plenty of room for 7 adults and our 2 dogs. The gardens are immaculate and the games room is perfect for keeping people occupied. There is an excellent petrol station 20 minutes walk away which sells everything you need, including a Greggs cafe ! The village of Rhayader is only a 10 minute drive away and has lots of shops, cafes and pubs. Spriggs Taxi’s are very reliable and drove us around when we didn’t want to take the car. We highly recommend the food in The Castle. Not as posh as the other 2 pubs but friendlier and better priced. Elan valley is only a 10 minute drive away and should not be missed, it is stunningly beautiful. Car is essential if people are not good walkers or have mobility problems as the drive up to the house is long and steep, but is perfect for long walks and wildlife spotting. We highly recommend Byrdir and will definitely come again.

The living room is a great size and heats up quickly when the log fire is roaring. The entire property was clean and tidy. The kitchen and utility room are well equipped with all the necessities and more. Upon arrival it was heartening to find plenty of towels available and blankets, the latter used when sitting outside looking at the countless stars. well appointed and thoughtfully furnished and decorated, the owners have done a lovely job of providing everything you need for a great and reaxing holiday. Following the coronavirus pandemic we really needed a break and this provided our "bubble" a great opportunity to recover some emblance of normality. the setting was beautiful and the weather perfect - i understand that this is normal for Wales! In short, other than in an ideal world, having an extra bathroom, a larger fridge freezer in the pantry and perhaps a banister on the 3 steps on the landing (took a bit of a tumble in the dark - my fault!) the property really was perfect. The games barn was a particular hit in the evening too. Loved it and I am sure you will too.

The games room is great for children and adults, we spent a lot of time in the games room. The surrounding fields were free of livestock so we were able to walk in them with the dogs off the lead and perfectly safely. The only issue was the wifi, we read in the cottage instructions that there is a 50g limit for the month, divided into weekly allowances. 13g of internet access is nowhere near enough for a winter holiday with 5 adults and 2 children all with their own iPads and watching online content. We did exceed the allowance, the owner did pay for more gigabytes of data and we were not asked to pay for the extra gigabytes, however, it did make us a little uncomfortable having to ask the owner to pay for more data and the worry that the 20g the owner purchased would not get used up again. It would have been better to give us the option of buying extra data at a fixed price so that everyone knows where they stand and we would not have felt guilty watching Netflix. I could not find any mention of data restrictions in the brochure or on Sykes Cottages website. The data problem has not put us off the cottage though, it was a lovely holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed the week. The cottage had been thoughtfully decorated with Christmas decorations and a lovely tree, and there was cake, milk, coffee and tea waiting for us upon arrival. We would definitely go back!

It made for a really enjoyable xmas week for our family of 6 adults and 2 children. Spacious, clean, lovely views and the games room was a massive hit for all. I would however point out that the enclosed garden is currently missing a gate so nothing to prevent dog running away down the lane. Also, and this is not a new thing. Sykes should make it clear on info when booking that dogs are not allowed upstairs at the property. This has now happened to us on 2 occasions that only on arrival have we discovered that dogs must be kept downstairs. I would not have booked these properties had we known prior to arrival as it mean't one of us had to sleep downstairs with him as he is not used to being left downstairs on his own.

The cottage is comfy, clean, and well equipped, with the best games room facility we've ever had at a holiday rental property, a welcome bonus if put off from the great outdoors by the weather. The owners are close at hand if needed and left a good variety of local information and guides to look through. If you need facilities on the doorstep it's possibly not for you. However, the nearest shop, (and Greggs!), is only a short drive on the main A470 away. The cottage comes with everything you need to feel at home, and is in a superb area to explore the beauty of Wales.
