  • "We had a lovely week and the cottage was lovely."

With young children I enjoyed the no clutter feel and fact everything was off the ground - easy to find lost toys. Despite having booked for 5, I was disappointed that only 4 sets of towels were left out - the hand towels were too small to use for the baby. However the real disappointment of the holiday was the kitchen. There were only 3 dinner plates, which for a booking of 4/ 5 was insufficient. The kitchen was home to 13 egg cups and 10 wine glasses, yet no corkscrew. The pans had seen better days and the oven trays felt/ were cheap ( I was disappointed there was nothing like a pyrex dish for a pasta bake, but appreciate this one may be down to personal cooking preference). The serving utensils were so cheap they almost folded in half holding a spoonful of veg. Additionally the knives were limited - only 2 small veg knives - nothing suitable for cutting bread. I don't think it would cost the earth to provide a bottle of washing up liquid either. ( As it happens we were in our camper van so had our own crockery we could use but most wouldn't). I would recommend but manage people's expectations.

We are pleased to hear that you had a lovely week. Towels are not usually left for infants as most parents prefer to bring their own baby bedding and peripherals. There are spare towels stored in the property which we could have given access to had you asked. Thank you for mentioning the crockery, we will ensure an additional set is supplied for future guests. It's a shame you didn't let us know while you were on holiday as we would have been happy to pop some in for you. There certainly was a corkscrew provided - we will get a new one. We are happy to hear you would recommend to friends and hope we can welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

Where you’ll be staying

KINGTON

Presteigne 6 miles; Hay-on-Wye 12 miles.

The small town of Kington, well regarded as a centre for walking, is situated near the England/Wales border in a beautiful area known as the Welsh Marches. It is a wonderful area of wooded hills, tranquil valleys and unspoilt Black and White villages on the English side and the more rugged Cambrian Mountains on the Welsh side. Celebrated by visitors for its lovely scenery and excellent walking and cycling in the surrounding rolling hills, this quiet, pleasant town offers a number of excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. Further afield there is plenty to do, pony treking is available at the Black Mountains and why not try Canoeing on the river Wye. There are a variety of tourist attractions close by including the Small Breeds Farm and Owl Centre, the nationally important Hergest Croft Gardens, Offa’s Dyke Path and Mortimer Trail long distance footpaths, and slightly further afield the National Trust properties of Croft Castle and Berrington Hall. Bradnor Hill, with England’s highest golf course, lies just outside the town. Also within easy reach and well worth a visit is the delightful town of Hay-on-Wye with its numerous book shops, craft and antique shops, along with hosting the famous Hay Festival during the Spring Bank Holiday. Nearby is Ludlow, famous for its gourmet food shops and fine restaurants. The ancient city of Hereford, with its impressive Norman cathedral and famous Mappa Mundi, a 13th century cartographer's interpretation of the world, offers a great day out. A delightful holiday location to suit all ages and tastes.
