"The property was poorly maintained."
It wasn't very clean. There were old cobwebs in places. A layer of dust in the lounge. We left some areas of the kitchen cleaner when we left. We didn't expect to have to clean the bin and other areas of the kitchen. There was old food debris in between the cooker and cupboard. We pointed these things out to the owner, who we only saw once and we had to approach her. She apologised and said she would speak to the cleaner. The cooker is old and the hob very hard to use. The four poster bed seemed smaller than a double and the mattress definitely needs replacing. We won't be returning.
We are sorry you had a bad experience but as you can see from other reviews you seem to be in a minority. It is a self-catering cottage not Four in a Bed. The mattress on the four-poster, which incidentally is a double bed, is relatively new. You say you won't be returning that is absolutely fine. Everyone as their own opinion, yours just seems to differ from most other guests. The property is maintained to the best of our ability - do not forget it is over 500 years old, many original beams and spiders and cobwebs are inevitable. It is thoroughly cleaned before each new guests.

The hosts left a very welcome pack of Welsh cakes, butter and milk to been enjoyed on our arrival. The main bedroom had a very comfortable four poster bed and both bedrooms were of an extremely good size as were the two reception rooms and kitchen. The property itself is in an ideal central position for visiting other places from i.e. Chester, Shrewsbury, Snowdonia etc. The local shop also stocks a great range of supplies. The owners couldn't have been more friendly or helpful and said we could stay for an extra day if necessary without payment as we were on the verge of being snowed in!!!
We hope very much to visit this lovely cottage again in the future.

"Stunning property, spacious yet cosy."
Well equipped with everything you could ever need and more. Lovely warm welcome from the hosts Jo & Steve, nothing too much trouble and always happy to chat, advise on anything or just leave you be. Wonderful to wake up to those stunning views each day, something you could never tire of. Our dogs loved watching the sheep in the fields, and being able to use one of the fields (without livestock) for doggy play was a bonus too! Only suggestion would be possibly a new mattress in the master bedroom, as the current one is a little 'tired' and doesn't provide very much support at all. Didn't spoil our stay, will definitely stay again & highly recommend. Thank you so much for having us, Jo & Steve :-)

There is a real home from home feel to the place which helps you feel relaxed from the moment you unpack. The house is very well equipped with a lot of little extras you don't experience elsewhere. "The owners are wonderful and super friendly."
The cottage exceeded our expectations, plenty of room for us all, little touches like a small welcome pack of Welsh treats and toiletries and biscuits in the bedrooms along with tea/coffee making facilities. Enough coal etc to make a couple of fires and cleaning materials for kitchen etc all there so you don't have to take all these from home. What made this holiday was the stunning views and peaceful setting,it was certainly needed for us as a family due to a lot of stress. We loved it that much we plan to go back next year. Only niggly thing and this is obviously no fault of the owners at all, is there seems to be a bit of mold above the shower in ensuite but this is something that can easily be remedied and did not effect our thoughts on the cottage and owners at all. If your after a peaceful holiday with beautiful scenery this place is for you.

"The cottage was just perfect."
It had so much room and all the things you could need despite some having had to be removed due to the Covid issues. The description didn't do it justice. As a lover of older properties the exposed beams and general feel of the cottage we just lovely and a four poster bed as well! The view in the mornings form the bedroom window was stunning and withal the tea/coffee making facilities in the room as well as the kitchen, so thoughtful. The village with shops, pubs and local walking made it perfect for us. The waterfall nearby is well worth the visit but can get very busy during the day, we went early in the evening and it was ideal.

These included the welcome note from the host and the cakes and jam, to the toiletries and selections of coffees and teas, and the super comfy beds with lovely bedding and the fluffy towels. In addition the hosts couldn't have been more helpful- making sure their livestock were moved so we could walk our dogs in their fields, and they ensured we always had enough fuel for the fire. In addition the cupboards were amply stocked with cooking equipment and there was a coffee machine for real coffee and a generous fridge freezer for all our provisions. They even brought me chocolates for my birthday!

"Whilst the farmhouse was what we expected in terms of age, (actually older than we thought) the decor and fittings could do with an update."
The kitchen was the same design that my mother-in-law had way back in the '70s. Whilst I wouldn't want the farmhouse to be dragged into the 21st century there are certain areas which could do with a spruce up.
The owners were very friendly and helpful - can't fault them. There were extras we didn't expect - tea & coffee trays in the bedrooms with an excellent selection of teas, and biscuits. In the kitchen, Joanne, the owner, had left some typical Welsh goodies for us to sample and bags of fresh coffee - very much appreciated. The kitchen had an ample supply of various utensils - in some ways it was like being in a private home whereby one accumulates all sorts of things over the years. There were things I hadn't really needed to take i.e. tea towels, bin bags, dishwasher tablets, sponges - ample supply under the sink.
The beds are really comfy with good quality sheets and lovely white fluffy towels. Toiletries were also provided, which was a nice touch.
My granddaughters were fascinated by the creaky floors and the 'bumps in the night'.
Whilst I appreciate the age of the property and all that goes with it in terms of cleaning, there were areas that could be improved upon and spiders removed by hovering. I think the pressure of 'sanitizing' everywhere in the time available between bookings could have contributed to less attention to detail in the cleaning process.
But, let's be clear, it is a big property, very good value for money, and these little things did not detract from our enjoyment of the property and the idyllic setting.
What I would criticise is the instructions for finding the property! We were coming from the north for a start and whilst the sat-nav was helpful when we came out of Oswestry we ended up going up and down country lanes - also bad road signage didn't help.
What I suggest is that people are encouraged to stay on the A4396/4391 to Pen-y-bont-fawr (not actually go through Llanrhaeadre-ym-Mochnant), turn right in the village (at the signpost leading to Llanrhaeadre-ym-Mochnant (pub on corner-Railway Inn) as this road is wider than the one advised coming out of the village. The distance to the farmhouse is approximately one mile from the junction (best to check) and on the right. It would be useful to have another name sign of the property facing that way.
We had a lovely relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings and will certainly be back.

(e.g. scones with jam from Tannat valley and butter and plenty of beautiful decorations)
We loved the open fire which we could properly enjoy during colder rainy evenings.
There was also plenty of wood so we did not need to worry about running out.
The owners were very approachable and friendly and always ready to assist should we need anything which only added to our comfort and peace of mind.
The view from the cottage was magnificent and we really enjoyed relaxing on the cosy window seat as well as on the chairs outside and taking in the breathtaking view. Our children really loved stroking lambs that the farmer was looking after as it was just the lambing season.
It is also in very convenient location just a short distance from one of the seven wonders of Wales – The Pistyl waterfall which was magnificent. It is right in the Berwyn National Reserve that offers many natural walks and relaxing moments.
We would definitely be back at this lovely place and would recommend to anyone looking for escape from everyday chaos.
