It is clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The cottage has obviously been lovingly restored and has a lot of character. We liked the peaceful setting and the views across the valley. We also appreciated the folder full of suggested walks - do go and do the torrent walk - the scenery is breathtaking. We also enjoyed meeting the goats, pigs and Barley the dog. We were two days late for family reasons and the owners were very kind and friendly. We thoroughly recommend this cottage and hope to return. Thank you, Mike and Elaine

Very well equipped cottage, I can't think of anything that we needed which wasn't there. We spoke to one of the owners who was very friendly informative and let us know they were available in the event of any problems other than that we were left to enjoy our break.

  • "The property is set in a superbly tranquil setting with a stunning view of the opposite hillside."

It was spotlessly clean on arrival and we found it well equipped with a good level of comfort. The cottage’s situation means it is totally private having a lovely large garden which teams with bird life. It proved to be a welcome haven to return to in a slightly unsettled week weather wise and we found it well located for exploring a beautiful area with which we were previously unacquainted.

  • "We selected Y Bwythyn at Henfaes due to it's location and the photos of the outside space, wanting a complete change of scenery and an escape from the Covid madness."

On arrival we received a warm, socially distanced welcome from Bruce and we were immediately struck by how fantastic the cottage was. It's certainly bigger than it looks in the photos and the views from the living room and bedroom windows are stunning. It was fantastic having the goats on site and our children loved going to see them every day. Bruce and Lorraine supplied plenty of visitor information including some nice touches with the history of the property and a beginners guide to learning Welsh. Location-wise, the cottage couldn't have been better placed with lots of local walks including the wonderful Torrent Walk. We were able to visit Dolgellau, Portmeirion, Corris Craft Centre, the Mountain Zoo at Colwyn Bay and Barmouth beach without spending too long driving in the car and there's plenty of shops within a short drive for keeping the fridge stocked with food. We really enjoyed our too brief stay at Y Bwythyn and will definitely stay there again when we next visit North Wales.

But you do - onto the patio in a secluded large garden still with the views. The whole house is exceedingly well presented - large enough towels to wrap yourself in, lovely kitchen equipment and super heating. The whole house uses spring water and solar power and has been developed by the owner with much forethought.

  • "The cottage is in the Snowdonia National Park and located in an excellent position to explore both the more popular areas of Snowdonia, mid-wales around Aberystwyth and also up to the places like Portmeirion (a good day out)."

The local roads are good and offer stunning views of mountains and lakes. The cottage is about 5 miles from Dolgellau which can provide most of the essentials needed for a self catering holiday and about 7 miles from Barmouth which has a great sandy beach and good for a "bucket and spade" day out for the family. The cottage was exceptionally clean and well equipped and the owners were very helpful and friendly, providing excellent information on how to reach the cottage. The cottage comes with its own private garden area and stunning views across a wooded valley. The cottage is a two story renovation with the bedrooms and bathroom on the upper floor. Our only reservation is that the stairs although short, with a half landing, are quite steep. Having said that, we are 70+ with reasonable mobility and we coped OK getting up and down. We can thoroughly recommend this property and look forward to a return visit.

  • "Quite exceptional cottage."

Located overlooking a valley and mountains beyond. Very quiet location with a warm south facing patio and garden. Red Kite and Buzzards are regular visitors to the valley and at night the Inky black sky takes Star gazing to a new level, the Milky Way is very clear to see. The cottage is detached and has been sympathetically modernised. It is warm and snug and very spacious. Comfortable beds in large rooms and the whole property benefits from high ceilings. Large kitchen with separate utility room. The bathroom is modern with bath and excellent shower. Shops and petrol only 5mins away at Dolgellau. Everything is provided and the owners Bruce and Lorraine live in the Manor House on the grounds. Very nice couple with lots of local knowledge and made us feel special without being intrusive. Rhydymain is located between Bala and Barmouth with lots to do and explore for all age groups. Fantastic 7 days holiday and the whole family want to go back. *****
