The river and fields nearby are delightful and there is wildlife although some of the paths are rather overgrown. The building has all the equipment necessary and is comfortable.

  • "The mill was perfect!"

The mill itself is lovely, well equipped and a home from home. It’s amazing what the owners have done to retain some of the mill workings and this was a huge attraction for us. The gardens and surroundings are amazing and the owners incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming. One sofa was quite uncomfortable but I think it was perhaps a sofa bed as you could feel the springs, but it wasn’t a problem at all. We arranged for a Tesco shop to be delivered from Welshpool, which was handy as we were looking for a relaxing stay with our dog and didn’t plan to venture too far for dinner etc. There are some lovely walks from the property and our son (a scout) loved the novelty of crossing the Shropshire/welsh boarders. We really loved our stay and were sad to leave. We have already shared the details with friends and aim to return ourselves! Thank you

Relaxing, superb walking in the Shropshire Hills and the surrounding areas. The accommodation itself lived up to expectation simply immaculate. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. It is the ideal base to explore the abundance of walks in the area. Cannot fault in any way.

We honestly could not find fault with anything within the property as everything was provided and would therefore definitely recommend a stay here to our family and friends!

The mill has been sympathetically converted to a very high standard and equipped and furnished to a high standard. It is in a great setting and the hosts, Steve and Caroline are lovely people who even allow the use of their own massive garden to exercise your dog, Kaz my GR loved it. I can imagine it would mean different things to different people at different times of the year & for our visit in a dry early autumn it hit the spot bang on. I'm 6'2" & never banged my head once or failed to find a lightswitch, such is the amount of thought & effort that must have gone into the restoration. We have many positive memories of our stay, the kingfisher, the bats. our dog tearing up the big lawn with the sheer joy of running free & just generally relaxing while listening to the sounds of the countryside.

We stayed over Christmas. The owners had put up decorations and a large Christmas tree witch made it very cozy. The kitchen was equipped with everything you need. I did the full Christmas dinner and it wasn't a struggle. There are loads of nice features in the cottage and the owners were very welcoming. My elderly parents loved it. My Dad ( doddery on his feet ) managed OK with the stairs and beams. The WiFi and phone signal is not the best but what do you expect when surrounded by lovely countryside.

  • "Lovely, characterful and very clean “cottage” the Old Mill was a charming and spacious retreat."

A great base for exploring Shropshire and mid Wales. Dog friendly garden, but we were glad to own a small working cocker as many walks in the area involved lifting her over stiles which would be difficult with a larger breed. Be wary of the river if you have young children, and next door is a working farm so early morning animal noises may wake you! The mill has low beams, with measures taken to avoid nasty bumps but might be tricky for very tall guests. Our hosts were friendly and available but not over attentive, and I’d recommend buying some jars of the locally produced jams they have available. We all enjoyed our stay and may be back before long!

  • "The Old Mill is a unique property if you are looking for something slightly out of the ordinary."

Seeing how the property was renovated around the mill equipment was a treat. There is a booklet at the property created by the owners detailing the renovation and we found it interesting to see how the property was turned into a holiday property from almost nothing. The property is across a yard from the owners. We heard no noise from the owners or anyone else - just some cows mooing occasionally. So this was great for us as we do like peace and quiet when we are away. We found the main bedroom bed comfortable - we slept well in it. The bathroom and shower both had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The kitchen was well-equipped with all of the cooking implements and utensils that we wanted. We were provided with items such as liquid hand soap, dishwasher tablets, tin foil and kitchen roll (which not all cottages provide!). The only thing that was disappointing was that the fridge was the smallest fridge we have experienced in a property. We found that it was big enough to contain two days' worth of food (for only two adults). So we had to plan to go to the supermarket every couple of days - otherwise all of the food might not have fit into it. The property was also clean and tidy. We stayed in the property in November and there were a couple of mornings and evenings when we found it quite cold. There is a log burner in the lounge and the owners provided two electric heaters and we did use all of these; however, the property did take a while to heat up and I'm not sure that I would describe it as the warmest place we've stayed. We had a small problem with the wifi, but Steve was ever so helpful. He had a lovely attitude and was responsive and positive - he genuinely seemed to care whether we were enjoying our stay - so thank you for that! Overall, it's a great property if you are looking for peace and quiet in an unusual building.

The owners were lovely, attentive but not intrusive and we were fortunate to enjoy dry often very sunny weather the entire week. The property

The Old Mill is a delightfully restored listed mill set next to the owners’ own home in four acres of land adjacent to the River Camlad in the Vale of Montgomery.

Surrounded by lovely countryside, there are far-reaching views in every direction, including the Kerry Ridgeway and the Long Mountain, a perfect location to sit back and relax and soak up the tranquil atmosphere.

Immaculately presented throughout, with many thoughtful finishing touches, this cottage is ideal for friends and families wishing to spend some time together in this peaceful location close to the Welsh/Shropshire border.

The cottage has been carefully and lovingly restored with the impressive old mill workings retained as its centre piece, rising throughout the cottage.

The property oozes charm and character and boasts an abundance of exposed beams, oak doors and frames and a winding staircase, flagged floors and sloping ceilings.

Set over three floors, the cottage boasts lovely countryside views from the second floor bedroom.

Step into the welcoming, fully-equipped country-style kitchen with dining area, with the old mill workings cleverly displayed.

This leads into the spacious and light sitting room with comfortable sofas and a warming woodburning stove for cooler days, together with French doors out to the secluded garden.

Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, both with their own facilities.

On the first floor the twin room has an en-suite shower room and on the second floor is the spacious double room with king-size bed and Juliet balcony, low ceilings and character beams and Jack-and-Jill access to a lovely bathroom.

To the rear of the cottage is the private lawned garden and patio area, beyond which there is access to the river where visitors can look out for kingfishers and other wildlife.

The garden is enclosed by fencing and hedges and is a secluded spot for enjoying the peace and tranquillity with the river gurgling in the background.

An interesting feature of the Old Mill is that it is heated with a modern, eco-friendly heat-pump, which takes heat from the nearby river.

This provides underfloor heating on all floors, and hot water for the whole house; a modern twist on its earlier heritage.

Delightful walks and cycle rides are on your doorstep with Offa’s Dyke close by.

There is plenty to do and see in this lovely area on the borders between Wales and Shropshire with market towns, castles and delightful country pubs all within easy reach.

The popular village of Marton which lies on the Montgomeryshire/Shropshire border is 1.5 miles away and offers a village shop and two renowned pubs.

Historic Montgomery is within five miles, Welshpool six miles, and Shrewsbury within 25 minutes’ drive.

Nearby attractions include the stunning Powis Castle and Gardens, the beautiful series of gardens at Glansevern Hall and the Montgomery Canal which runs close to Welshpool.

Shropshire attractions include the majestic Stiperstones and many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
